I always loved typography but never realised it was possible for me to create my own font!

To start off, I looked through my design books for inspiration. In a book showcasing stationary, I was inspired by a card made by designer amymarcella. I liked how the horizontal bar of the H and the e were lying low.

I started to play around with the A and the E. I also liked the y in the tutorial which was an hybrid between a uppercase letter and a lowercase one (at least in my mind!).

My first sketch was a bit messy. I couldn't get the e right (I can be a bit stubborn!).

I used the O as a guide for the rounded letters.

Then I realised I forgot the Z so I had to re-scan it. I took the opportunity to redraw a few letters I didn't like... And while I was testing the font in Glyphs, I realised it would be cool to add punctuation so I started make an exclamation mark and the rest. I never figured out how to do the ' though so for the moment it's missing.

I still need to tweak a few things (ahem, I should say kernings!) but I'm really happy to have gone so far: I didn't know I could do it. My very own font!!! It made my day : )

Update on 25th April:

I can't stop now! I've added the lowercase glyphs and lots of symbols. I love the process. I'm hooked!
