Ah gouache... the medium I keep wanting to be better at but always hesitate to actually sit down and do. This was the perfect exercise to get those paints out!

I was feeling really good about myself when I started with black, although gosh darn getting a solid edge is hard! I experimented with different consistencies, paint brushes, and paper, until I had it right. Then I went on to try the other colors, thinking I'd have the same success as my little black voids. As you can see, the vast majority of my colors were not completely opaque with one layer. GOUACHE YOU SLY DOG. (note, this is water based gouache, not acrylic).

But carmine red, carmine red blew my freaking mind. Run, don't walk, if you have carmine red in your supplies. See that pink and red row? Boom, inspiration! (Also, the plum blossoms outside my house are red and pink and I'm swooning over them). I was absolutely delighted at my little creation of pink and red. I'm kind of seeing people with perms/hats :-)

Because I was happy with it and didn't want to risk layering with water based gouache I may leave it here for now, but now I'm tempted to try acrylic gouache for easier layering!
