Vector Illustration: Using Creative Constraints to Find Your Style

Hi Ewa,This illustration makes me think of summer and being out with friends, having dinner together hahaha but maybe that is what everybody is wishing at the moment ;)This is such an awesome color combo and i realize that every work i review here in the product gallery, color is the first thing i notice... Might be so for other people too. The balance in color is nice, those warm orange, yellow and pink colors, combined with colder blue and black that make it more bold and cool. The blue actually is quite warm as well, it is more summer sky in stead of icy kind of blue. I like what you did here with the shapes, almost everything is recognizable but also in a more free and abstract way, which adds up to a sense of personal style.I can imagine that you have trouble drawing characters. I used to have this as well... but like i said in the class, try to find out where your problems are exactly, what it is that you don't like and find a solution to avoid this. If you have trouble with hairstyles, give people hats, if you have trouble with faces, make them minimalist, or really small. or perhaps super big? use dots for eyes, or make faces really small on a big head etc. cut out photos of faces and stick them onto your illustrated heads, etc. Find a way to work around your flaws. If you have trouble with bodies or postures, trace existing photos of people, if you have difficulties coming up with clothing, draw your wardrobe? And most importantly, the more you practice the easier things get, and also the more convincing you present your work, the quicker it becomes something real, personal, and accepted by others

Really loved doing this workshop and trying out someone else's process - thanks for sharing, Rick! I'm mostly a graphic designer by trade, but love to do illustration in my free time.
I'm trying to draw people more but I just wasn't happy with how any of my sketches for them came out, so they didn't make it to the final composition. Definitely need to practice and work out how I like to draw&nbsp;them - do you have any tips for drawing people/characters?
