Handmade Altered Sketchbook — update

Handmade Altered Sketchbook — update - image 1 - student projectI had fun with this project; I have made sketchbooks before but never repurposed a hardcover before. The book was quite small so I could only get two signatures in it, but with the elastic I can add empty signatures when I want. If you look closely at the spine I goofed using my Crop A Dile tool to punch the holes. I just filled them in with brads and it looks like intentional decorations. I used a light box app to trace the Penn State logo then watercolor painted it and attached it with brads. Handmade Altered Sketchbook — update - image 2 - student project

I decided to make a second altered sketch book— the gold colored cloth unintentionally led to a Halloween theme woven paper cover. The strips were inked on the edges with purple, orange, lime green, and yellow, as was the paper I attached the weaving to before gluing it to the cover. Purple and white elastic cording allow for 6 removable signatures.
