I think the Of a Kind emails are a great example of accomplishing a business goal through editorial. It's one of the only weekly emails I receive that I actually make sure to open, read in full, ... and often click through to purchase as a result. Here's one sample. 

The business goal is definitely purchase but the background and context really help communicate "why".
