Gothic cemetery

Gothic cemetery - student project

Some time early in lockdown we decided the house needed to reflect our tastes more. The walls were still the same boring magnolia they were when we moved in.

After a few sketches I came up with these as the general layout for the living room wall - which is approx 7m x 2.5m.

I bought some tins of Graphenstone ecological paint in ebony, pewter, indigo and white. I had been hoping to find a more purple colour but settled on dark blue for the sky.

I used standard decorator's brushes and rollers.

The tins were all 0.75 or 1 litre and I used at most half of the paint.

To transfer the image to the wall I sketched the major components in pencil after marking out 1m marks on the skirtingboard. You can see the equivalent marks on the sketches above. My scaling wasn't quite accurate and I found I had much more space on the wall than I had planned for, so I moved and added some elements.

It was tricky taking a photo from far enough away to get it all in and without bits being covered by furniture, but here it is!
