Ghost Drawings

I will update as I make progress . . .

Here are the materials I am using, testing/technique practice, and some ghosts with ink washes. My practice pages are in a 5.5" x 5.5" watercolor sketchbook with ivory paper. My final drawings are on A5 white watercolor paper drawn in Platinum Chou Kuro with TWSBI Eco fountain pens.

26OCT2025 I needed two practice drawings before I was happy the elements in project #4. I should have drawn the ghosts a bit taller in the project, but I worked around it by adding eyes behind broken boards.

27OCT2025 Practice and Final Drawings for #5. The multiple shades of grey on the ghosts in the window did not show up well on the final project scan. None of them were pure white.

27OCT2025 Practice and Final Drawings for #6. I tried a few different techniques for the background before the final drawing.

04NOV2025 Practice and Final Drawings for #7. The ivory paper in my practice sketchbook vs. the bright white watercolor paper creates a different atmosphere for each piece.

11NOV2025 Practice and Final Drawings for #8. Since my paper is taller/narrower than the instructors, I added some rock in the foreground of my finished project.

1\7NOV2025 Project #10: Up until this point, my ghosts had been male or androgynous. I love the heart motif and took the opportunity to create a very feminine ghost and be playful with the hearts.

Project #11: I toyed with adding more detail to the cabin, but decided on dramatic simplicity. With projects 10 & 11, I added very little white ink. I sketched the sketch drawing and did my best to use the white of the paper.

18NOV2025 I finished the final project! I tried several designs before I was satisfied with my jellyfish ghosts. (I will add my practice drawing when I have the opportunity).

My jelly ghosts practice drawing. My final project drawing was a combination of elements from my practice drawings.

I love drawing mandalas and thought I needed a Project #13 based on the motifs in this class.
