In our area of work we are starting to hear IoT and IIoT a lot more frequently, so that is the concept I am exploring now. Everything in a circle (initially I had 17)could explode into hundreds of pieces and hurt my head, so I also have to go through the 'less is more' for each and choose only the components necessary for the project.  

I have chosen an application I am familiar with so I don't have to open another stream of research while building the backbone structure, which will then become the template to receive other applications.

Empathy in this context means not choosing an irritating colour palette, make control buttons large enough for someone on big fingers(for touch screen version) .
