Fun at a Washi Tape Pop Up Gallery

Fun at a Washi Tape Pop Up Gallery - student project

I made a video using footage from a gallery event I went to in October. I used my default camera on my iPhone 12 mini. I edited the footage in CapCut for iPad.

  • How did you ensure consistency between your two shots? Did you think about the angle of your camera or your distance from the subject?

At the time I filmed it, this lesson was fresh in my mind. My method of ensuring consistency was mostly me holding my iPhone steady with both hands. I filmed the motion of the transition about 3-4 times. I thought of the angle and distance somewhat. Honestly I was mostly in it for the fun! I was ok with the possibility of footage being poor quality; I just wanted footage to practice. Since the event is over and done with, I can’t refilm, so I worked with what I had while editing.

  • Were there two shots that blended together more or less well than you expected?

I am pretty happy with how the vertical whoosh turned out! That, and the seamless reveal using the door frame as the median (though, I can see the “seam” kind of lol).

  • What kind of emotion or energy were you aiming to communicate through your transition?

I wanted to convey the whimsical energy of someone indulging in a niche interest, ie washi tape. Washi tape, to me, serves more as ephemera than utility, so I wanted the video to simply serve visual delight and lightheartedness.

I really enjoyed learning about these creative film making techniques! I look forward to trying these again with new footage. Thank you!
