First sketch after 20 years

First sketch after 20 years - image 1 - student project

I started on this paper which had more a smooth texture. It didn’t create the 3D pop I wanted but this got me comfortable with using graphite pencils for the first time. Hair has always been hard for me. So I’m super proud to how this turn out thanks to the techniques taught in this class.First sketch after 20 years - image 2 - student project

For these two I used Strathmore drawing 400. This where I learn that paper matters and I got that 3D pop I was looking for in my drawings. I also learn that the 8B graphite pencils wear out easier on this paper so my hair on the left is rough but I was able to figure how to be more gentle with the lips.

the last time I drew like this was with 20 years ago in middle school with a number 2 pencil and my finger as a blending tool. This has been a great class/exercise to get back into the groove learn how to use some pro tools.
