Beginning Acrylics: Introduction to Acrylics and the Painting Process

I must say looking at your painting and the others submitted makes me nervous lol - need to chill over here!  I might need to make a rule not to look at other paintings till I have done mine.  Feeling silly lol

Sometimes we have to just 'go for it' and surprise ourselves! I think Skillshare is so good and most here would say, 'accidents' happen it's what you learn from them that counts hehehe! I always think, what's the worst that can happen? I can paint on the back lol! Or with Acrylic ~ gesso it and start over! Good luck, looking forward to seeing your creations :)

This is great!  I am starting this one next!  Love the sun reflection and your trees.  Brigette is my fav so far.  Super good lessons and excellent feedback for us all.

Great mixes, Joanne! I’m curious about what paint you used? My favorites are Grumbacher, Golden and Liquitex. Keep up the great work. I hope you enjoyed the exercise and you give the sunset course project a go. I’d love to see your handiwork. BTW: if you change up your red to magenta, you’ll get a more pure purple/violet. (Some of my face to face students, when doing this exercise, complain about the purple not being very ‘pretty’ when they use Cadmium Medium or Grumbacher Red which are on the warmer side.) Magenta is considered a cool red.

Hello! They were the cheaper end paints, just messing around! I will be doing this again with different colours I think! I've now added the finished painting project which was done on a canvas with Arteza Acrylic paints. I am fairly pleased with it, can see which bits I could 'tweak' in the future. First time trees, so not too disappointed with them. Thanks for your feedback :D

Awe! You did it, Joanne. It's beautiful. I love the intense colors, soft blends and obvious brushwork. That makes for a very dramatic piece. I'm curious about how you achieved the fabulous texture on the sun? 

The trees are well done. I like the way you 'framed' the canvas using tape - great idea. I also love the square format. It situates the sun in the perfect spot compositionally. Great work. Thanks so much for sharing for everyone to see.

Thank you for those lovely comments! I used a foam stencil stippling brush from Amazon! I got that idea from Ian Harris who posts a lot on YouTube! It seems to work quite well!! I don't have a lot of space here, so I always tape my paper/canvas to my board or it gets messy!! Thanks again, off to do another of your classes!
