Fearless Figures - Final Sketches
Hi Annie!
Wanted to say, first of all, thank you so much for creating this class! Figure drawing is something I've dabbled in, but haven't worked with much in YEARS, and I'm always so intimidated to try. Your breakdown of the steps was so incredibly helpful, and definitely encouraged me to keep trying and exploring.
I'm really excited to take your faces class next! :)
So here are my sketches from the poses we looked at in class:
I found using a mechanical pencil for my stick people, and then building up the layers with two different colours of pencil crayon was so helpful! I'll definitely be using that trick from now on. And your suggestion to use long strokes, rather than shorter, feathery ones to build the shapes and details was very useful, too. I'd heard that one before, but it was interesting to see that in action, just how much of a difference it made in my drawing.
I really enjoyed the more dynamic poses we drew, even though they definitely required more time and patience. I surprisingly felt more confident in my drawing, maybe because of the energy of the poses? I found that the more static poses were less interesting,
I did notice that I was way more comfortable drawing bare feet than the sneakers. When we came to the pose of the lady sitting on the bench, I think I was warmed up enough to create shapes that felt more "sneaker-y", but I'm way happier with the barefoot drawings :)

I also did a couple more poses this morning, before I sat down to work today. Here are my reference photos from Unsplash:
I got a bit mixed up with the anatomy of the right-hand figure (I think the top is too long, which kind of stretched her body out). I really enjoyed drawing the folds of the jeans in the left-hand figure, and I'm overall happy with how the sketch turned out. Again, I'm seeing that the more dynamic pose feels more confident!
Thanks again so much for this class! I'm really looking forward to learning more! :)
