Drawing for Beginners with Mimi Chao
Thank you, Mimi for you course!
I adore your style and your art!
Just like you, I was into fine art all my life. And also had to choose "a serious job" - an engineer, that never actually work. The only positive part - for 5 years I attended a children Art school, as after-school program.
I am not new to all of these topics, but like you mentioned - I didn't have a structure with all the classes I take. Currently, I am at the place where I could follow lessons and draw/paint what is being taught (I think!), but at a loss when it comes time to do it on my own. Not mentioning to develop my own style!
I appreciate you taking time and effort to compile all your knowledge in one place.
So far, as I was watching the beginning of the course, I made a blocking and shape/copy the picture on a piece of paper. I scanned it, so my sketch is a bit too light.
I will continue. Excited to learn more!
P.S. And here I am - the course is over... I loved the course and liked to take it at a slower speed. I would watch the lesson and think on it for a while. I like this approach, I do need time to digest the info.
Thank you for the links and helpful .pdf file.
Thank you for the course, Mimi! In a short duration you covered a lot of ground. Now, it's my time to dig deeper and practice!
So far, block-in and tonal value studies - are my favorites!
Lesson 23. Portrait.
Lesson 20. Head basics.
Lesson 18. Mine looks slightly different and my color adjustment is not too far away from Mimi’s. I used a strange brush, so it would change sometimes my colors. Need to choose a solid texture brush next time.
Finished Lesson 14. Eucalyptus branch in color. I noticed my tendency to draw everything larger - the scale and proportion problem!
Working on 5 value study. It was fun. I really liked how the Billy balls turned out! The camper was a bit more challenging. I often used a desaturated image for reference.
Block-in your picture was very challenging, took me quite a while to finally say - it's looks good enough.
This wasn’t too bad, but you still could see lots of adjustments. I love the picture of these “Billy balls”.Was practicing Red Robin on paper. Just something that was laying on my desk.
