Drawing Without 'Fear'

So, that was actually kinda scary. I did most of these exercises and I must say, having no reference and drawing randomly is crazy hard... for me. Some of these did turn out ok though, and I will totally do exercises like the random line and blobs of color again as they really push me to think outside the box and just draw whatever comes to mind from the mess on the page. I just really need to remind myself that it's a sketchbook, a place to play, that will be peppered with junk and questionable things. However if I don't play and experiment, how can I grow as an artist?

Excellent class and exercises to push the creative thinking. Thank you!

Not sure what that deer looking thing is... Drawing Without 'Fear' - image 1 - student project

I'm not sure what was going on with my genie bull, but like my space dude and weird bird creatures. Those little bird things look like they are running off to see something awesome!

For my 'from reference' I did a still life. I'll admit, and odd still life, but lots of fun to draw.

The thumbnail exercise was a lot of fun.

Who would have thought drawing pumpkins without a reference would be so hard? Of course going straight in with ink really forces you to have to own it.
