Fantastic job! Personally, I prefer drawing animals rather than people. To me it seems easier to achieve a resemblance or likeness to an animal which is what I struggle with the most when drawing people portraits. One more thing, it looks like charcoal but I could be wrong.

Thank you! It sure is fun to draw animals, the shape variations are so interesting. Wow, you are not the first to think I use charcoal. There is no charcoal in this drawing. Can I ask why you think so?

I have only done a few charcoal drawings and although I’m definitely not an expert only having drawn since January of this year, I do find that charcoal seems to have a much softer look than graphite. It doesn’t seem that precise detail is as easily captured perhaps because perhaps graphite is a finer medium in my opinion but again I haven’t worked with either long enough obviously because I thought Coco was done in charcoal. Since you enjoy drawing animals in graphite, I have an amazing artist that you may be interested in seeing his work. He and a number of other graphite artists use a similar technique which is hyper realistic. Out of respect for this artist, I’ll have to figure out how to forward you his name if would like the info.

First ever dog portrait. I enjoyed the class. It was really helpful in drawing my first dog portrait and made the process easier. Was quite excited about drawing my own doggie, a pomeranian named Coco.&nbsp; Will definitely be drawing more dogs :)
