So I've decided that I'm going to be doing (at least) a logo a week for the foreseeable future whether it's for a client or not. I may or may not post them all here as I go, but for now I'm going to post my first one: a Deer Mouse.

I decided to make a logo on a deer mouse by using a random animal generator (I'm rather indecisive), not to mention they're pretty cute little creatures. So let's get started with some images!

This was my 'preliminary' sketches, as I started to explore some face shapes, and tail shapes. I'm not one to particularly follow a reference photo too closely so I wanted to change some details to make it vary. Often when I approach a logo I tend to come up with a pose and do TONS of research on the animal to get correct anatomy, then simplify it down. So this is quite new to me.

Here I decided on the direction I'd like to take it although I'm still thinking about some variations on the tail. I'd like to try some variations where the tail is more flowing at the upper portions but I'm looking for some feedback/advice on what to do about it.

Let me know what you guys think so far! I'll be posting more on this project as I make progress.

Update 1:

I just finished vectorizing this piece! I have a black and white version along with a blue one, let me know what you guys think.

Update 2:

In this update, I've gotten a lot of feedback (thanks guys!) about the tail needing work. I remade it, and would like to see your reactions:

Update 3:

An update with curved tail as opposed to curled up. Let me know which you like better.

Update 4:

Made changes to correct curves on mouse's tail as suggested. Now curves are more circular according to guides.

Final Update:

I believe I've reached my journey's end with this logo. After watching George's video on grids I redid the entire logo with a grid and spent a long time matching up points. Hope you guys enjoyed seeing my process/progress throughout the logo, and I'd like to thank everyone for the feedback!
