Daily inventory - student project

I worked at a restaurant who allotted a certain number of baked potatoes each day. When we were out, we didn't have any more inventory of baked potatoes for the day. Some customers got angry and said they would go to a competitor and never come back to our restaurant. If I was in this situation again, I would tell them that I was very sorry to disappoint them, because I understand that they were really craving a baked potato. And, if I said this before offering them another menu item and a free dessert, this would have been a good way for me to acknowledge what the customer was going through, instead of worrying about an angry person who was raising their voice at me.
