Daily Routine Animation

For this project I utilised a design I had already made this year which was inspired by the gloomy, windy weather we’ve had in the UK this winter. For ease, however, I chose to only animation one of the figures and selected the third figure as more of her face showing and she is in a more dynamic pose, which I thought would be more interesting to animate.

Animation Sketch and Planning

I have taken some Skillshare animation classes before, so I had a good understanding of the animation features however, I really liked how Anya taught us in more detail, how to plan out the animation by designing 6 individual frames and then looping the same frames back.

Below is a still from Procreate. You can see the groups for each frame as well as the general idea of where I want the animations to be. In my design I have 4 animations:

1. Flowing hair

2. Screwing up of the facial expression with glowing cheeks

3. Waving scarf

4. Wind blowing from right hand corner to left hand corner

Initial Rough Sketch Animation

I like how the initial animation has turned out, especially as the wind blowing was drawn on every frame (there was no repeat)

Final Colour Palette Animation

Compared to the initial sketch animation, there is a lot more movement in the final piece. This is due to the trick Anya taught us, by hand drawing two versions of the same base sketch (legs & coat), and alternating them between the frames, gives a hand drawn effect but also adds movement which really works well for my design. The hair blows more chaotically in the final piece which I also think is more realistic in windy weather. I also love how the wind appears to start off slow, and the pick up pace during the swirl and the final frame of the wind shoots off out of frame.
