Collage in My Journal
First, I very much enjoyed this class. I am enamored by paper and a great fan of collage. But, like the whimsical character collage class, my paper choices and my sketchbook created some frustration. Since I identified the problem but moved forward anyway, that's all on me.
I tried to choose less busy papers. Most of my journals are old books with gessoed pages. Sometimes I also paint the pages or clean my brush on the pages 🙄. One hates to waste paint. (The one I refer to is me.) All that to say, sometimes the journal page itself is busy. And this book is particularly small, so the collage took most of the page, and eliminated the effect of white space.
Patchwork

Grid with White Space. (I got a little carried away with the paper and left very little white space. 😁)

Cluster (The journal page is painted, so the cluster is hard to find. 👀)

Organic Shapes (The ink is not even a little bit my favorite. I had trouble getting any pen to write on gesso with glue on top. Also, I was a little impatient, so what happened was a blob and smear fest that look a little like insect legs. 🐞)

In and Out of Bounds (This might be my favorite. I used one paper that I had made. Each side had a different design on it, and I used pieces of both sides. Using the paper was like finding something in your jacket pocket that you thought you'd lost. A happy surprise. And I liked using a blue pen instead of black. 🩵)
