Class project

Class project - student project

The human and the space:

1- I'd live to give as much free space as possible for my daughter (and maybe more children in the future) and for us adults to move/exercise/play around comfortably.

2-The floor plan is below (plan)

There are two entrance: the one in the middle is to the terrace. Sorry it may not seem clear the functions of each room in this picture, but you see more details in basic floor plan further below :)

Its opportunities are that: it has many windows for natural lights, this also may allow us to seperate the spaces to more private sections when needed. The open kitchen-living-entrance area. This matches our purpose to maximise the space for social life.

Its limitations are that the main bedroom is rather big, so far we don't see the need for having such a big bedroom, given that I personally do not want to have anything in the bedroom rather than the bed and a dressing table.

The current kitchen has a rather limited working surface (picture right below)Class project - image 2 - student project

3-Plan for Changes

Make a separate room in the entrance area, to use it for hobby (reading, movie nights, exercising). We hope to do this by using acoustic curtain as you mentioned in the Partition section.

Extending the kitchen working surface. We consider to order a new kitchen from IKEA, kitchen worktop will be walnut-color, same color as the dining table we just got (picture below).

Bedroom 2 is planed to be used as office in daytime and bedroom for our kid. This is to make sure we are not disturbed while working in the daytime.

The basic floor plan

1-See attached image (Interior).

The parts with dots are carpets or extendable furniture.

Zoning, Order and Alignment

I have some few questions here, hoping to get some advices:

1-How do the corridors look to you? do they give you headache? :D

2- The furniture are not aligned much with each other, can we use plants to compensate for this. For example having plants beside the sofa to make it look aligned with the piano. A plant beside the piano to make it looks aligned with the kitchen island? (if you know what I mean :D). Anyhow, I plan to use lots of plants around the apartment where possible (by the windows, at the cornors...)

Partitions

1. We hope to be able to find a acoustic curtain within our budget (things like that are quite expensive in Norway) to make a separate room using the entrance space. Something that looks like thisClass project - image 5 - student project

Storage Optical illusions.

- Maybe a ceiling shelf to the right of the desk in the Bedroom 2, along the long wall?

-A ceiling shelf above the kitchen island, where plants, wine glasses and lights can be placed? Like in the picture below? (Again we don't know where to find this kind of shelf where we live yet :). My partner is 185cm tall, does the shelf has to be at least 200cm above the floor? (the ceiling is around 270 cm)

-Mirror above the sideboard in the dining area.

-We are wondering if we should have ceiling shelf or floor-to-ceiling storage at the dining area, where the Side board is now. I would prefer the Side board mirror but we are worried that we may need more storage space there as well. I would like also to spare free walls for paintings :)

You are very much welcome to give comments :)

Cheers!
