Capturing Nature's Calm: Watercolor Techniques for Painting Misty Mountain Landscapes

Hi Summer, thank you so much for sharing your work and for taking the time to try this exercise multiple times, that already shows a lot of dedication.Capturing mist with watercolor can be quite challenging, so you’re definitely not alone in finding this part tricky.One important thing that really makes a difference with this technique is the paper. Since we’re working with a lot of water and soft transitions, using a good-quality watercolor paper, ideally 100% cotton, helps the paint move and blend more naturally, which is essential for creating that misty effect.For practice, I’d suggest focusing on the mist on its own first. Try working on a few small scrap pieces of paper, keeping the surface wet and letting the pigment gently spread without worrying about trees or details. This can help you get a feel for how much water and paint you need before building the full landscape.Thank you again for joining the class and for sharing your process, keep experimenting and be patient with yourself. Watercolor takes time, but with practice, these effects will start to feel much more natural.

Altea: Thanks so much for the feedback. I cherish your comments. I will defintely buy better paper, paint and brushes. I have to admit I was buying supplied from The Dollar Store. So embarrassed to admit. Everything is so expensive lately. But now I can see, how buying more professional supplies will assist in my paintings. I will try out all your suggestions! Well, I tried it a couple more times. Still have not captured the mist. Would like some guidance with the mist.
