I'm not sure why it is, but I LOVE the sketching step in both styles of still life. I think there's something freeing knowing I'm drawing myself notes to be successful in painting, and that I can ALWAYS cover it completely if it looks silly or I mess up.

It's sort of thrilling seeing them side by side like this. I love the sense of light that floods in that traditional scene, but the colors and bold strokes of the contemporary are absolute fire. Really happy with the results and think I just might paint 50 more. The paint by number was enjoyable too...even though I've painted it before! Something about just following the lines.
