Butterfly Journal

Painterly butterflies using gouache: This was another fun class using a different medium as well as trying out different types of paint brushes! I struggled with the fan brush but made it work somewhat. I liked the affect of using two different colors with the fan brush; I just need to play with it more to get used to using it. Thank you, Jessica, for yet another awesome class!

This is my latest Butterfly Journal entry, which was a lot of fun trying out different materials to create varying textures on the watercolor panels. It is something I will definitely return to for future reference. I’m looking forward to the next lesson!

Got my first entry done for my Butterfly Journal ‘journey’! While I initially fought with my perfectionist side, I was finally able to just let go and put the ink on the paper, which was quite freeing and relaxing. I used a chopstick for the most part, with a dip pen for the smaller details. Also, I used some violet ink that hadn’t been used for years. I’m looking forward to continuing this journey of filling my Butterfly Journal :)Butterfly Journal - image 3 - student project

Here is the next entry to my Butterfly Journal. I must admit that halfway through, I wanted to start over, yet encouraged myself to finish it first before deciding whether or not to do so. It is so dry where I live that my paper dried so quickly, which made it difficult to get the blending effect desired. However, I’m glad I completed it, as it was a great learning experience, and I’m happy with the outcome.
