I really enjoyed learning how to paint a monarch in acrylic! I love the vibrancy of the colors and blending that makes this butterfly come alive! The drawing practice sheets were so brilliant with repeating the lines each time and adding a new one each time. It really reinforced the design for me and I was able to easily draw the monarch on other surfaces, like a suncatcher and into my sketchbook. I recently witnessed the monarch migration in Southern Ontario, so this class was just what I was looking for to get to know the monarch a little better!

I used a black Posca paint pen to draw the monarch on this acrylic ornament, then used stained glass paint for the colors.

I used Posca paint pens in my sketchbook. I found that coloring the orange parts first, then the black borders went well for me. Then, adding the white dots last on top of the black.
