Most times people confuse Branding and Brand Identity Identity together.
Let's talk first about what Branding is not -

2. Branding is not fonts & Colors put together
3. Branding is not your promises.

Branding is the gut feeling - first impression about a product or service or a company.

So, simply put Marty is saying your brand is what other perceived it to be. You want to create the right impression about your brand(company or business).

Brand Identity is one part of Branding, and it's the visual part of the company that designers helps to formulate.

Brand Awareness and Recognition are aided by visual Identity that are timeless and easy to remember. Symbols are the most rapid form of communication - Reason why Logo are use as the head of the brand.

If I ask you to imagine Toyota - obviously you imagined their logo right? exactly!

The Visual representation of your brand is your Brand Identity.
