Illustration Academy: Creating a Charming Character

Hi Lisa, It's nice to see you here (I think I've seen you on Facebook in one of the illustration groups, is that right?). Thank you for joining the class! You did a wonderful job. I love the liveliness of the characters, the colors you've added, and the detailed patterns. I also enjoy the little sketches you did, as much as I can see them on your picture: the angry girl with the energetic, upright ponytail, the smiling man with the bowler hat, the old stooped person with the walking stick; they all seem to have a lot of personality. If you want to take it a step further, you could try doing more sketches and/or final drawings of some of these. Or maybe try my <a href="https://skl.sh/2kt2to4" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Illustration Academy: Drawing an Animal-Inspired Character</a>, which works with the same shape principles. There's also <a href="https://skl.sh/2xBc8hD" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Drawing Magic: Creative Characters</a>, if you want to do a whole lot of figure drawing in a free and fun way. Whatever you do, feel free to post your projects to show what you've been up to, I would love to see how you evolve!    Thanks for sharing your work, and I'm glad the class was helpful to you. Hi Judy, thankyou for your encouraging remarks! Clearly i have a long way to go (limbs are tricky eh?) but its just the start and more fun to have yet! I hope to do some more classes to build on this one. I have been tinkering with illustration as I am trying to learn about children’s picture books. I’ve just enrolled on the Storyteller Academy but have done a few Skillshare classes ( Nina rycroft, Christine Nishiyama (?spelling) , Charles yang, Lisa michaels and Lisa michaels facebook group). But not been brave to try drawing whole people till now!

Yes, I'm in the group too. People do indeed use it as a motivational tool, to encourage each other. It's a great group, and the workbooks are lovely. I don't do the exercises though, because I'm not into children's illustration and am focusing on other projects (although you can use the exercises or part of them and tweak them to serve your own needs).

I’ve always been hesitant about drawing people but this shapes method helped me to build up the characters.
