Thanks Judy :) When I was growing up (70s-80s) my mother had a stack of pillowcases that had embroidery guides printed on them. She'd been given them by an aunt. My mother handed them to me and said, "have at it, kiddo."  (Those pillowcase would have been from the 50s and 60s.) That was a lot of embroidery! Thankfully I enjoyed it, lol.  Jen

Great story, Jen! Back at you with mine! When I was growing up (60s) my mother gave me a blank cross-stitch embroidery to work on. I think it was about how young ladies needed to learn the womanly art of embroidery. I did it, and later in my life a lot of embroider beyond x-stitch on my own,. LOVE textiles! Anything with a relationship to TEXT from text in books to texture in art! Made a whole career out of it -taught  literature and writing! Gosh, those embroidery lessons worked in our favor eventually, huh? Good on. us!

That's fun -- !   While I at first wanted to go into art school, my mother convinced me to prepare to be an English teacher. It wasn't until student teaching that I realized that I really don't like working with teens, lol!  (Grades 6-8 okay; 9-12 not so much!)  My mother taught me crochet, knitting, sewing, embroidery ... it was partly the "feminine arts" and partly to get me out of her hair.  :\

This piece was created with embroidery thread that I bought at my grandmother's auction. Some of the skeins had wonderful but brittle vintage labels. Boilfast is my favorite.
When I was a child I did a lot of cross stitch, needlepoint, embrodery, samplers, etc etc etc so this was very satisfying.
