Becoming Walt

This song is a part of my thesis project for my MFA screenwriting program. I'm writing a musical, and this is supposed to be sung by a child.
For scene context - the child has just run from his abusive father, and is hiding away in his safe space, a cottonwood tree. He is singing to an animal that he found in an attempt to comfort the animal, but really it's to comfort himself.
I would love to hear any thoughts or advice on improvements on the song, lyrics or melody.
Lyrics:
Have no cares, little one
Smell the air, feel the sun
Hear those cotton trees?
Welcome to the Dreaming Tree
Where my dreams run wild and free
Let's just lie here
You and I here
Telling tales
Playing games
You and me
No more pain
What is your name?
What are you called?
Tell me my friend!
My name is Walt
