Beautiful magnolia in watercolor

Thanks Chris for inviting students to another amazing class and sharing your great expertise!  This was my most challenging of your classes thus far, but I am happy with the end result.  Of course I see areas where I can improve, but  I live my life as a journey of daily improvement.

I used Windsor Quinacridone Magenta Windsor Daniel Smith Phthalo Blue Green Shade  & Windsor Transparent Yellow.  I could not get a good purple mix with these paints like you had and my magenta seemed more red, than the pretty pink/red you had, but I made do with what I created.

I ended up putting mask on the complete flower as I have had trouble not masking the whole image in other paintings and painting in areas I wanted to be clean.  This worked for me.  My background is not as luminescent as I would have liked and my flower and shadows turned out pretty dark, but I just kept trying to get the bluish purple down, and ended up with some darker colors.  I am still practicing my paint mixing.  The upper portion of background had a piece of my hair stuck under the tape, and this was the end result!  I didn't want to fuss with the background, as I know that can be difficult, so I left it thinking it looked like twigs.

I really had a wonderful experience painting this magnolia.  As summer approaches it was the perfect subject!

I look forward to your review, as they are always honest & helpful!
