Oh wonderful Sheryl! Wel done! I love to see your drawing on site with the building behind it!And it's your first outdoor sketch I read! Wow! Time flies, when you sketch outside, doesn't it?Yes you could definitely make the shadows darker, to bring more light and values in your sketch!I love the trees also, and what a wonderful dog. Patiently waiting for you. You could also darken some of the leaves in the trees to bring in more volumeAlso the portrait is well done! wow! So delicate! Thank you for sharing!

It’s my first outdoor sketching of buildings! I enjoyed and totally forgot time while I painting! 
 
Though I’m happy about the result, I would make the shadow area darker, and make the overall tone more vibrant next time.
