Allen Gardens Conservatory, Toronto Canada - student project

This is a greenhouse located in Downtown Toronto filled with beautiful plants.

First time painting something this big with watercolours so I was pretty nervous. I tried your method of bordering the paper and it definitely helped me.

Started to layer by filling the greenhouse with solid colours first.

Details/lines added. I think I went a bit more overboard than I would've liked. It's hard to keep an objective eye while working details..

Painted the outlines of the greenhouse. The white gouache I used wasn't Acryla and started lifting off so I switched to an opaque white ink.

I added some colour inside the greenhouse to accentuate the white lines & drew some buildings around it to show the city, and this is where I put my brush down for now.

All in all, the final result wasn't what I really intended (colour-wise especially), but it was good practice and inspires me to paint more to become better at expressing myself.

I do have a few questions to ask upon completing the project:

1. When you're painting on your sketchbook, how do you keep the paper from warping?

2. Do you finish your work with some kind of protectant or coating on top?

3. Do you paint at home/studio setting only, or do you paint at outdoors as well? If you do paint outdoors, what are some things you specifically do to prep for an outdoor painting environment?

4. What do you do when you lose momentum (such as losing interest in a work-in-progress) or if something looks off after you're done creating it?

Any other critiques for improvements would be greatly appreciated as well

Thank you for the class Sara, and for taking the time to look at my project. The class was a joy to follow it as I am a huge fan of your work!
