Alayna Quiles ReBranding
This, was my old logo. It was good for what I needed it for at the time, was to get a job in graphic design at an agency. I worked for an agency for 2 years, learned a lot and then suddenly stopped learning. I wasn't getting what I wanted there, which was creating the type work that I loved to create, that being lettering and illustration. So I left. Now I freelance so that I have more free time and energy to work on my new portfolio consisting of the work I want to get. There was just one problem though. My branding did not match the work I wanted. Thankfully this class came out just around this time so I watched and decided to give my brand a makeover.
I did a little research on other letterers logos, looked at some typefaces typed out with my name, then sat down and drew out what I liked most about the typefaces I was looking at, seeing what combo worked. Next I scanned and went to work on tracing.
The first logo here I had printed out and did some corrections. One big thing i noticed was the Q was completely off because it had two down strokes. I redid it to match the a better, much better.
I then checked all my anchor points and made adjustments before coloring and stylizing.
I went through some color options and then finalized below.
After sitting with this logo for about a week I just didn't feel completely satisfied. I looked up a few different lettering artists to get my imagination rolling and then it clicked, it didn't need to be 3D to be complete, and all the meat in the script needed something.
Now I finally had my AH HA! moment here. I loved it. Next was color, and what better color than my favorite Bare Minerals Lip Stain called BO$$, cause thats what I felt like at this moment, a mother forking boss lady.
and there it is! It even made for an awesome icon that my best friend (also a designer) and I totally geeked out about.
I even redid my website www.alaynaquiles.com with the new logo up and running. Thank you if you made it this far down in my rebrand journey and I hope you enjoyed my process!
Now I must totally letterpress this for business cards.
