My final pattern after using a wide canvas and using the method taught in class to alternate between 4 scallop motifs.

To be honest, my style usually leans more towards the bottom version because I really like simple, minimal designs. But I certainly find it a lot of fun to add in a bunch more details and colours like I did in the main design.
