Hello Katya!Very nice! I really like the values and edges you created on the rock formation. Has a great solid feel to the work.As far as getting the various value studies correct, it really comes down to lots of studies. There are so many different materials and they each have their own way they react to the surrounding environment.You have to learn to trust your eye and that takes time. The good news is that you can turn any image into a grayscale version and study the values of it. So if you have trouble in a specific area of your work, find a similar reference image and convert it to grayscale then practice repainting it. It will give you a better idea of how to proceed in your own work.It takes time to catalog all of these different materials and some will be easier than others. Just go for what you need to know at the moment or what you are truly inspired to create and keep moving forward.I hope that helps and good luck with your studies! My projects are below.
I have one question about sketching from an imagination that I can not figure out by myself.
* I know that you are not talking about value sketches in this particular class, but as a professional artist you probably know the answer, so I am gonna ask.
The question:
How to analyze if shadows on your sketch are "right"/believable? Are there any instruments that can help in situations when you are not sure if your lights/shadows are making sense?
