2 Kinds of Oil Pastels

2 Kinds of Oil Pastels - image 1 - student project

1st Try -- Portfolio water-soluable oil pastels. It just didn't work for me though I thought water-soluable sounded like an OK idea. They behaved poorly. I used cotton tips and no matter what I did, it messed up more. SO messy!

I watched the class again in case I was doing something wrong.

2nd Try -- These are supposedly Paul Rubens oil pastels, but the box and color names were all in Chinese. Weird.  They performed fine for this assignment. Smitha, your fingertips must have lots of muscle to do all that blending! LOL! The blending worked OK for me as a total beginner. I wasn't expecting perfection. They didn't shed constantly, but I found random speckles of pastel color and couldn't simply wipe them up. (What to do about that?)

Thanks for a very well-structured class . You gave me encouragement to try this seemingly easy assignment. I'll be back for the next classes in the series to learn more!

PS Just FYI -- The Rubens box actually designates "Paul Rubens," and even though the booklet doesn't designate names of colors, there is a color-in page that does.
