180degree and eyeline mistake
Hi, yesterday after the class I watched the episode 7 of game of throne season 2 (highly artistic I know! lol). One scene had a recurring 180 degree rule mistake, by using the same shot over and over. in fact the scene is quite still and we can see that shot are not chosen for a particular reason. If feels like they did a lot of coverage but no artistic choices.
It also contained an eye line consistency mistake, that is as staggering. The main character seems to be the guest star that dies at the end of the scene, but tighter close up and more variety of shot in the recurring actor might show the intention was over-wise. It overall did not feel intentional at all. The shot that crosses the line of action is the tighter a close up that the other character does not have. It did not add anything to the story and come back refuting the edit at different time of the very talkative scene.
A one liner guard character come in the scene a few seconds. He is placed at the door slight right behind the “main character” (don’t remember names sorry), in a tight shot looking at him, the “might have be the one they want to main” character looks at him only with his eyes, without moving the head, and moves his eyes up left, instead of up right of the main character. I actually find that was even worse as the audience totally loos their bearing on where this guard is.
Overall, really interesting to spot issues like this. And reassuring to see that this mistake is common, as I made one myself in my short movie!
