1. Welcome to the Class: When we talk about gouache, it's a beautiful art medium that gives you a nice matte finish when it dries. In this class, we are going to paint a beautiful winter house with landscape using some easy and simple techniques to paint. Hey, everybody. You're most welcome to my new class, myself, Rudick Patel. I'm a self taught independent artist and an interior designer by profession. I personally love to explore different art forms and styles and not stick to one particular thing. So if you are joining me, you'll find a variety of classes that I create. We are going to start by understanding the class project in detail. Combining different elements together, we are going to form a beautiful painting. We are going to talk about all the art supplies that you will need for the entire class. No need to worry at all in case you are missing out on any particular art supply. You'll find it very easily in any nearby local art store. We're going to talk about all the gouache colors that you will need. The first step is to create a basic sketch of the entire winter house, followed by painting it using vibrant colors. You're going to add minute details using black and white ink. And you'll definitely enjoy the entire process of adding minute details. Once we are done painting the beautiful winter house, we are going to add two beautiful pine trees around, followed by minute details like adding the color palette, some text using calligraphy and some craftwork. No need to worry about the output, enjoy the process of creating. By the end of the class, you'll have a beautiful winter house painting in a journal form. It's a short class that will not take a lot of your time, and it will help you to explore gouache as a medium. So without any delay, grab your art supplies and join me on this creative journey. 2. Details About the Class Project: Hey, everybody. Now let us talk about the class project that we are going to create. As you can observe, I have placed my class project on the desk surface. Let me take you a little bit closer so that you can observe all the elements carefully. So there are going to be different elements that we are going to combine to form this beautiful painting, starting from the text tags that we are creating using some craftwork, followed by these abstract elements around and the color palette in the bottom portion. You can observe this beautiful red house having these little black windows, having minute details. Similarly, the yellow house which is connected and the blue one. There are these minute details in the windows that you will definitely enjoy painting. Then we are going to create this snow effect. We are going to paint these beautiful pine trees using easy painting techniques. In the bottom portion, we are going to apply all the colors that we have used in the entire painting, and we're going to add some little text in the bottom right corner. There's this circular element that is very easy to apply using watercolors and combining all these elements together, we are going to form this beautiful winter house painting. The reason behind adding text with tags and some calligraphy in the entire painting makes it complete and it makes it look like a journal form. So this is the entire class project that we are going to create. It will not take a lot of your time, and you'll definitely enjoy the entire process. We are going to use easy and simple painting techniques to complete the entire class project. Now let us move towards the next part. 3. Art Supplies: Hey, everybody. Now let us talk about all the art supplies that you will need for this entire class. As you can observe that I have placed all my art supplies in a systematic manner so that you can observe them one by one. So let us talk about the first art supply, which is a simple tissue paper in which you can already observe some color patches. So it is important to keep a tissue paper nearby whenever you're painting. It will help you to remove excess amounts of water and color whenever required. Now comes the most important art supply, which is the brushes that we are going to use. I'm extremely sorry about the condition of my brushes, but let me give you the details. So you can observe we have three round brushes, one flat brush. The flat brush is of size four, as you can observe. You can go for any other good alternative, as well. Then we have a round brush of size four. Then we have two round brushes of size zero and size one. So these brushes will help us to add minute details to the entire painting. So these are four basic brushes that you will need for the entire class. No need to worry at all. In case you do not have the exact same size, you can go for any other good alternative as well. Now, let us talk about the inks and pencil that we are going to use. It's a simple mechanical pencil that you can observe. You can use a simple pencil as well. It is absolutely fine. Then we have two black inks. One is from art line of 0.8 tip. Let me show you that as well. Then I have another black pen, which is very similar to the first one. So it is from move, and you can observe it is having a thinner tip than the first one. So we can use any black ink to add minute details to the entire painting. Now comes the next and most important art supply, which is the watercolor paper that we are going to use. So I'm using watercolor papers from Canson. It is 300 GSM and A five size sheets. So 300 GSM basically means the thickness of the paper, which will help you to apply heavy washes on it. So you can observe the details carefully and get your watercolor paper. You can use any other good alternative as well. Here is our class project that we are going to create. So it's the same sheet. Then comes the next art supply, which is a simple eraser and a sharpener. You can use it in case you want to use a simple graphite pencil to sharp it, an eraser is required whenever you make any mistake while creating a basic sketch. Then I have a simple color palette that you can observe. It's a simple plastic color palette. You can observe there are multiple colors that I have taken in it. Just make sure that your color palette is having enough space to take out multiple colors in it and mix them well. Then comes another art supply, which is a simple glass container in which you can already observe some blue colored water. Of course, we're going to take some clear water. Then we have the most important art supply, which is the gouache colors. So the first one is black, then we have yellow ochre. Then we have crimson, scarlet, Prussian blue, titanium white, and sap green. So I hope that you got an exact idea about all the art supplies that you will need. Now let us move towards the next part. 4. Basic Sketch: Hey, everybody. Now let us start with a basic sketch. So as you can observe, I have placed my watercolor paper on the desk surface, and I'll be using a simple mechanical pencil. No need to hurry at all. Observe these steps carefully. You can use a simple pencil as well. So I'm starting with the roof of the house structure by creating a simple horizontal line. Followed by two slant lines on either sides and closing it with another horizontal line. Draw a little rectangular shape on the top right corner and a single window on the center part of the entire roof. I'll create two vertical lines on either sides, which will act as the wall of the main structure. Create another horizontal line on the bottom part, which acts as a ground line. No need to hurry at all, draw it carefully and try to apply very less pressure using your pencil, which will help you to create a basic sketch. Now, we are going to create little windows which will add details to the entire house structure. The windows are basically simple rectangular form that you can observe, and we are just drawing it in a combination of six windows. Now I'm going to add a little dog on the bottom part, having a semicircular shape basically on the topmost part. Now let us draw another building structure which is attached with the first one. Now, this one is going to be triangular in the topmost part. You can observe that I've created the roof by joining two slant lines and a little chimney on the right hand side. Similarly, we'll have another house structure which is going to have a triangular roof. This house structure is a little bit smaller than the first one. Now, similarly, we are going to add windows in this particular house as well. The entire painting looks really amazing and well in detail due to these little windows only. You can draw them according to your convenience, as well. It is absolutely fine. So we are done with the basic house sketch. Let us add two vertical lines on either sides so that we know the position of the pine trees where we are going to paint them. So we are done with the basic sketch. Now let us move towards the next part. 5. Painting the House: Now comes the most interesting part, which is painting the winter house. So once we are done with the basic sketch, I'll be taking some crimson red in the color palette that you can observe carefully. You can add a little bit of scarlet red as well. Add a little bit of water and try to create a nice composition of water and color together. Try to have less amount of water and more color so that you can get a highly saturated, vibrant red color. I'll be using my flat brush, and we are going to apply a nice even coat on the entire surface of the first building structure. No need to hurry at all. Take your time, try to paint with a lot of patience and try to paint in a very slow and steady manner. You can observe the way I'm being very much careful near the edges. A flat brush will basically help you to apply color in a bigger surface in a faster manner. So that's why we are using a flat brush. You can observe that we have applied a nice solid coat of red color on the entire surface of the building. In case you want to experiment with the colors, it is absolutely fine. I want the house to look a little bit vibrant. That's why I'm using red. You can use your round brush of size four to apply it on the corners and make the shape look a little bit more perfect. You can observe that we have painted the entire surface, and now I'm going to use the same round brush to apply the red color on the chimney, on the top right corner. It is a simple rectangular shape, and you will need a round brush to paint in this smaller area. Adding details to the entire painting is going to be the most interesting part. I've taken a little bit of yellow ochre. And you can mix it with a little bit of black, not in a very high amount. Just try to create a less saturated color by adding more water. Now using the same round brush, we are going to add these little horizontal lines in the roof structure. So no need to hurry at all. Try to keep your hand very much loose and free, apply very less pressure on your brush, and try to create these little horizontal lines. So by adding these details, we enhance the entire roof structure as well. You can add the less saturated brown line to the outer portion of the entire roof as well. Now, once we are done adding these details, I'll be using my black ink, and we are going to create details in the little window that we have created in the roof. So it is having a semicircular shape on the topmost part. You can create the outline using the black ink first and then fill in completely solid black. Similarly, we are going to create these little rectangular windows completely solid black. So I'll be using the same black ink. We could have used a simple round brush and solid black color as well, but it is more easy and more convenient to use a simple black ink to paint these little windows, especially it is having a very less area to cover. So similarly, I have created an outline for the door on the bottom part, and I'm going to fill in solid black color in the inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Take your time and try to add these little details. It is going to be the most interesting part where you are going to add these little details in the windows. So I'm just trying to add solid black color in the entire door. I guess my marker is a little bit empty. No need to worry about that. You can use any other good alternative as well. You can use a black pen as well. So I'm using another black ink to create an outline on the window which is present on the above part. Similarly, I'll be creating an outline for the door. So we are done creating solid black color. I'll be using my round brush of size zero. You can use a round brush of size one as well. And we are going to add these minu details in these solid black windows. This is going to be the most interesting part, and you'll definitely enjoy the entire process. Just create the outline first, apply very less pressure on your brush, use the tip of your round brush, and then create a horizontal and simple vertical line in between. You can observe how beautiful the white line creates a contrast with the solid black background. That's why we applied the black color initially. Similarly, we'll be adding details to the door as well. You can observe that I'm adding the solid white line on the outline, and then I'll add inner lines as well. You can create according to your convenience, I'm just creating a little horizontal line followed by two vertical lines and a single vertical line in between. In case you find that your color is getting finished from the brush, feel free to take some more color. Try to have less amount of water and more color. This will help you to get a highly saturated white color. Now, in order to create the frames a little bit thicker, I'll add another layer of solid white line on the topmost portion. You can observe the way I'm adding a simple line by applying a little bit of pressure. You can take a little bit of color from the color palette and apply a horizontal line. So now we are done with the entire red building structure. I hope that you enjoyed the entire part. Now let us paint the second building structure. So I've taken a little bit of yellow ochre, and I'll be using my round brush of size four. Mix it with a little bit of solid white color in the color palette. Add a little bit of water to create a nice composition of water and color together. Now using the same round brush of size four, we are going to paint the walls of these triangular roof structure. No need to hurry at all. You can start with the outline. You can use the tip of your round brush to paint near the outline of the entire building structure. Make sure that you do not move outside the pencil line and also inside the red building structure. There is another triangular roof structure, so make sure that you do not move your brush inside that as well. You can observe that we have completely painted the entire triangular roof structure. The best part about gouache colors is that it gives you a beautiful matte finish when it dries. Now, once we are done applying the color and when it will dry, it will give a nice matte finish. Before that, let me use a little bit of the same color to paint the chimney of this house structure as well. You can use the tip of your brush to paint this particular part. Now I'm going to use my black ink again, which is a black pen basically to create the outline of the roof structure. You can observe the way I'm adding an outline to the entire roof structure by applying very less pressure on the pen. I have similarly added an outline to the chimney, which creates a nice contrast with the white background. Now, similarly, we are going to paint the windows. So again, there is going to be a solid black background. So I'm going to use my black ink again. Simply create an outline initially and then fill in solid black color in the entire inner portion. No need to hurry at all. Try to apply the outline in a slow and steady manner. Try to get a nice rectangular and square shape wherever required. You can play with the composition of the windows. So you're basically free to explore and experiment with the entire house structure. Now, once we have added the windows in the entire yellow house structure, let us paint the little triangular roof structure as well, which is in front of the yellow one. I've taken a little bit of Prussian blue, and I've added a little bit of water to make a nice composition of water and color together. Now, once you have got a nice composition of water and color together, try to apply it in the entire structure. No need to hurry at all. It's a smaller portion to paint. So again, I'm using my round brush of size four. But I'll use the tip of my round brush to paint near smaller portion. Apply very less pressure and try to paint in a slow and steady manner. You can observe that all the three primary colors makes the entire house look really vibrant and it also creates a nice contrast with this solid white background. Now, let the entire blue coat dry for a while. Once it will be dry, we are going to add another window and door to the entire structure and add minute details. So now, once the entire surface is dry, again, I'll be using my black ink to create a simple rectangular window and a door. Now, this time, the black ink might not be that much visible because the blue color is already dark. But once we will apply solid white line, it will look really nice. So as you can observe, we are done drawing and painting the little house structure in the front. I'll be using my black ink again to create the outline of the roof structure, apply very less pressure on the black ink. So this basically acts as if there is snow on all the roof structures. Now, I'll be using my round brush of size zero, or you can use a round brush of size one again. Take some solid white color from the color palette. And similarly, we are going to add the outer frame of the window and one horizontal and vertical line in the center portion. No need to hurry at all, take your time and add the lines carefully. No need to apply a lot of pressure. Try to keep your hand very much loose and free, and you'll definitely enjoy adding these little details. So now you can observe that the white line creates a nice contrast with the yellow and the solid black color. Similarly, we are going to add the lines in the little window and door present in the blue surface as well. So I'm starting with the vertical line followed by horizontal lines, and then one single horizontal and vertical line in the center part. You can add a vertical line for the door. And another horizontal line in the door as well. So you're free to explore and experiment with the entire structure. You can decide the position of the windows as well. I'll be taking a little bit of yellow ochre, and I'll add more amount of water in it to make it less saturated. Let us paint the ground area. It's a very simple and easy process. You just have to simply create these little horizontal lines combining together to form these random surface in the bottom part. No need to hurry at all, take your time and try to create these horizontal lines. Try to keep your hand very much loose and free while you're using a round brush of size one or zero. You can add a little bit of highly saturated ocher yellow by having less amount of water in your brush to create some yellow patches in the ground area. You can observe the way I'm adding these little horizontal lines below the pine tree area as well, where I have created the pencil line. We are going to paint some pine trees over there. You can use a little bit of brown and ocher yellow just below the horizontal line, which is the ground line, basically. You can observe that we have added a highly saturated color as well on the left hand side. Similarly, you can apply a little bit of Ocha yellow on the right hand side as well. It's a very random process. No need to worry about perfection. So we are done painting the entire house. Now let us move towards the next part. 6. Painting the Pine Trees: Hey, everybody. Now let us paint the pine trays, which is a nice element in the entire painting. So I've taken some sap green. You can mix it with a little bit of solid black color to make it look a little bit more dense. You can observe two vertical lines on either side of the painting, which is basically the house structure. So that is basically the position of the pine tree. I'm using my round brush of size one. I've created a simple vertical line using the green color, which is basically sap green. Now start applying these little strokes from the topmost portion. Now as you move towards the bottom area, simply increase the size of the strokes that you're making. It's a very simple and easy process of painting a pine tree. You'll definitely enjoy the entire process. No need to worry about painting it in the exact same way. There might be difference between your painting and mine, and it is absolutely fine. So can observe how easily we completed the entire pine tree. You can observe that it creates a nice contrast with the solid white background as well. In case you want to add a little bit of depth in the entire pine tree, you can use a little bit of solid black color to make the green color look a little bit more dense. Now, once we are done painting the first pine tree, there is going to be another pine tree on the right hand side. So these steps are absolutely same. Just observe them carefully. Again, I have created a simple vertical line. Now, this pine tree is a little bit bigger than the first one. I'm starting with little strokes from the topmost portion, and slowly, as I move towards the bottom area, I'll increase the size of the strokes that I'm making. You can observe the way I'm moving the branches towards the house structure as well. You can overlap it. You can add a little bit of solid white color as well to create some nice depth and details. You can observe that we have completed the second pine tree as well. Let us add a nice small pine tree in the center portion as well. You can create a little vertical line and follow the same steps. In case you do not want to add a pine tree in between, it is absolutely fine. I'll take a little bit of solid white color and apply it on the edges. You can use a solid white color to create some more depth in the entire pine tree. Since it's a winter landscape, this will help us to show some snow in the entire area. You can observe the way I'm using the tip of my round brush to add these little strokes in the entire pine tree. It's a random process, so no need to worry about perfection or painting it in the exact same way. You're free to explore and experiment. You can observe the way I'm adding a lot of solid white color to enhance the entire pine tree and make it look a little bit more attractive. Using the same steps, we are going to enhance both the pine trees as well, adding these little strokes now we are left with the last one, and you'll definitely enjoy the entire process. So you can observe the way I'm using the tip of my round brush. Adding these minute details basically makes the entire painting look a little bit more attractive. You can observe that we are done adding little white strokes in all the pine trees. Now comes another part of adding the outline to the house structure. To add some minute finishing details, I'm using my round brush of size zero, take some solid black color in it and apply it on the bottom part of the roof structure. You can also add it on the topmost part of the roof as well. You can make the roof look a little bit thicker and we are going to basically keep the center part completely white, which basically shows that the entire roof is completely snowy. I'll take my round brush of size four, add a little bit of water in your solid red color. Try to have more amount of water and less color and just simply tap your finger onto the brush, to splatter some color around. It's a very interesting process, and you'll definitely enjoy it. Now, similarly to show some snowy effect, we are going to use our round brush of size zero, take some solid white color in it, and simply add these little dots around. You can tap your finger onto the brush to splatter some color around, and you can paint it as well. So we are done adding a noise snowy effect. In case you want to manually draw some circular shapes, it is absolutely fine. So again, it's the same process. I'll be using my round brush of size zero and simply create these little dots randomly. There is no specific way of adding them. You can paint it according to your convenience wherever you want to. Just make sure that it looks random and natural. So we are almost done with the painting part. You can observe the way I'm adding these little dots on the bottom area as well, where we have the ground structure. I hope that you got an exact idea of how you have to create a snowy effect in the entire painting. We are done painting all the elements. You can observe the winter house, the pine trees, the ground area, and a nice snow effect. In case you want to give some final finishing details, you can use the same round brush, add some little horizontal strokes in the bottom part. And using our black ink, we can add the solid black outline to the red building structure as well. So we are done with the entire painting part. Let us move towards the next part, which is journaling the entire painting. 7. Adding Details: Hey, everybody. Now let us add some more details to the entire painting. This is going to be another very interesting part where we are going to add a nice color palette in the bottom portion, and we are going to add a nice journaling element to the entire painting. So all the colors that we have used in the entire painting, we are simply going to create their color patches in the bottom part. Now, in case you want to create a random color patch or you want to paint it in a perfect shape, it is up to you. You're free to explore and experiment. So since we want to present our painting in a very journal manner, that's why we are adding a nice color palette in the bottom part. It's going to be a combination of some text, some color patches, a nice text with a tag, and these elements combining together to complete the entire winter house landscape painting. You can observe that I have painted three colors. Similarly, I'll be adding few more. Now, let me tell you one thing about this particular part that we are doing right now. It is basically about journaling the entire painting. So since we are going to add few elements, that will enhance the entire painting. So as I told you that there are going to be these color patches, some text elements that we are going to add. Now, it is not at all compulsory for you to follow the exact same type of journaling that I'm doing right now. You're free to explore and experiment. You can use a different color palette. You can add the text wherever you want to. You can completely experiment with the entire painting, basically. So I'm writing a little text like enjoy the process on the right hand side, near the color palette and you can also add the date when you painted the entire painting. So this is another element that we have added. Now I have these little two brown pieces of paper, and I'm going to write a little text on it. So the first line is art always brings peace. You can use any other good message as well. It is up to you. It is completely fine. Then the next message that I'm adding is add more colors. You can write any lines according to your convenience. It is completely fine. In fact, you can use any other color for the colored strips as well. So I'll put a little bit of glue on the backside of the paper and simply paste it on the topmost portion. Once you place the strip, apply a little bit of pressure using your fingers. Similarly, add a little bit of glue on the next strip as well, and simply apply it below the first tag. Align it well and apply some pressure using your fingers. You can observe how beautiful the entire effect is looking. I'll add a little bit of water in the solid red color. And we are going to create a nice round shape to the entire painting, and it's a nice, interesting process. You can take a cap of any glue stick or any round cap that is available with you and simply just dip it in color and then simply randomly apply it on the white watercolor paper. You can observe that I have taken some red, some green in case you have different shapes of circles, you can apply it according to your convenience. Now, once we have applied these little circular shapes randomly, you can use your round brush of size zero and create these little dots. So this basically is an abstract element to the entire art journal that we have created right now. So together, you can observe a beautiful combination of text message, a nice color palette, these little elements that we are painting right now and the entire winter house. So we are done with the entire painting. I'll just simply remove the tape from the corners. Be a little bit careful while you remove the tape. Make sure that you do not tear your entire painting. So I'll remove the tape from the top corner as well. Now let me take you a little bit closer so that you can observe all the details carefully. I hope that you enjoyed the entire process of painting this beautiful winter house painting, having vibrant colors in itself. There are these elements that we have combined to form a nice painting in a journal format. You're free to explore and experiment with the entire painting, and I'll be super excited to see all of your class projects. I hope that you enjoyed the entire class and got to learn something new and creative. Now let us move towards the class conclusion. 8. Class Conclusion: Hey, everybody. You're most welcome to the class conclusion. I hope that you enjoyed the entire class and got to learn something new and creative. Wash is a really nice medium to explore and you'll definitely enjoy the entire process. While I was creating this particular class, I made a lot of mistakes, and that is something that I always tell my students never to be afraid of making mistakes. It's part of the learning process. It would be really great if you add your projects into the project gallery. I would be really excited to see all of your class projects. It would be really great if you leave a review for the entire class, as it encourages me a lot, and my class can reach many more students like you. At the end, I would like to say, keep learning, keep practicing. Thank you so much for joining the class, and no need to worry about the output. Just enjoy the process of creating.
