Wedding Watercolor Sketching

1. Intro: Hi everyone, my name is Irina Trazaskos , I am an artist and illustrator. Welcome to my new class Wedding watercolor sketching. A couple months ago, I was invited to teach a live workshop on wedding sketching. It had such a great response that we decided to create a Skillshare class on the same topic. During today's class, I'll show you step-by-step how to sketch wedding décor ideas in a crystal clear and a beautiful way. We will be drawing a broad composition as sweetheart table, an art and a wedding cake. This class was designed for event decorators, florists, bakers, and everyone who is interested in the course kitchen. In the next video, I'll show you the supplies we'll be using in this class. Let's get started. 2. Supplies: In this class, we'll be using following supplies: watercolor paper. It doesn't have to be this heavy. You can use any watercolor paper you have at home. Office paper, watercolor paint. Also we'll need waterproof liner. I'll be using sharper pen fine. We'll need a medium-size brush and a small-size brush. I'll be using a synthetic medium-size brush and a [inaudible] small-size brush for details. Also we'll need a pencil, an eraser, a ruler, and some water, and a paper towel. All the supplies will be listed in the project section of the class. 3. Warm Up: Before we start drawing our beautiful ideas, I suggest you do a warm up, especially if you are a beginner drawer, or even if you are drawing for a long time, it's important to get used to this style of sketching we'll be using today. You can download and print more map templates in the project section of the class. You just come draw with me right now. For warm up we'll need an outliner. I'm using that fine sharp pen and an office paper. First what we'll draw, it will be a line like a bunch of Us, one after another. You can make the loops. Next one will be a line of the same loops but upside down. You can do as many obviously as we've done, until you feel comfortable doing this type of font. Next will be a spiking like, lethal cones. Next one will be even more spikier, make new more of course. This will be useful when we have to address an ever greens. In warm-ups, you are getting used to are neater unto the paper. Next step is, let's try to do the same cones, but to make them more wavy. Get the waves. Now, I'm more used to layer and paper, just try to loosen your hands and add in some random shapes in a line like this. Realize there you have it's own irregular shapes because they are revise and [inaudible]. Next what we have to do is, do again some regular lines like this. This will be useful for some curtains in drapes. Next with a pencil, I have to draw a shape maybe a circle. There on the circle, thicken your line you like, just draw it around. It doesn't have to be regular. Now let's try to do the same thing with different shapes. I'd say triangle, square, a heart and any letter you like. Keep drawing lines and shapes until you feel comfortable with your liner. In the next video, we'll be standardizing flowers, branches and vases. 4. Sketching Flowers and Details: In the event of course sketching, it's important to learn to stylize flowers. For example, if I have a complicated flower such as hydrangea or a lilac, let's say hydrangea. Then we would start by drawing with a pencil, a general shape of a flower which looks like a little cloud. Then with a liner, we would contour its edge with irregular line. The same like we were doing during warm up. After this, inside of the shape, we have to draw the shapes of your flowers. In this way, it will make more clear which flower is this. To draw a rose, we just draw a spiral and then add few petals to it. To draw a rose bud, we will draw the spiral again, and I'll add a little cup to it and these. Or we can draw a rose by drawing a spiral with a sharper edges. If we have a complicated flower like a penny, we will start by drawing a circle. Then in the middle of the circle, we'll draw all this context petals just with medium loose shapes. Then we'll draw all these petals which are on the edges. If you have a flower like anemone, which has a very pronounced middle of the flower, that's where we'll start. We'll draw a circle again, then we'll draw the middle of the flower really dark. After this, we'll draw the petals inside of the circle. If I have a circle end, also again, I'll start with a circle. Then we'll drop a triangle inside, and then sequence petals or leaves around it. So far our flower compositions and our identical in general, will need to learn how to draw some branches. If there are stem branches, we'll draw them on straight lines like this. Sometimes we'll need to draw berries in them, a pair of berries. Sometimes we'll need to draw ferns, which are curved lines and with leaves on them. Sometimes I would have this flowering gum branches. We'll draw a line first, and then we'll add leaves on that depending what branch we have. Sometimes we'll have a little bit of leaves. With a little bit of practice, stylizing different shapes is not very tiring as it seems. Also it's important to learn to sterilize some simple objects like vases. Some vases are just cylindrical. Those vases will show just like a rectangle and they may have some decor on them and some leaves. Sometimes we'll have this kind of vase, like a little bucket. Sometimes we'll have a box with the flowers. Again, a rectangle and some texture over wood, then we'll add flowers. Also can be an hollow. It's really fun to practice to simplify the shapes around us. I suggest you'll try just to simplify some objects you are using in your decor. It's so much fun. This one's going to be a stand, some fruits are flowers. Sometimes we would use even bottles in our compositions. Put some blow up on them, add some blow up. This was our sterilization exercise. In the next video, we'll be drawing our floral composition. 5. Drawing Flower Composition: After we learned How to Stylized Flowers, Branches and Details, we can start Drawing our Centerpiece Composition. You can see the reference picture on the left; this is the composition we'll be drawing today. We'll start with a pencil. At our base will have to draw a rectangle. Our rectangle will be a support where vase stays on and also support where it holds all other details. This is this piece of wood. We'll be showing everything plain so it will be more clear to your customer what kind of details you are using in the composition. To show our flowers, we'll have to draw the main bowl of flowers with a pencil and usually it's a circle or a changed shape circle. We're showing the main bowl of flowers we'll have. Other details we'll also show like rectangles, this frame. A little candle, and then an even bigger cup of a candle. Next we have to show where our most important and the most beautiful flowers will go, because these are the heroes of composition and it's important to show them in your sketch; so the customer will understand what kind of flowers are you going to use. Let's draw our paintings. We are just showing the place where it will go; just like circles or close to circle shape. Now, we are showing the brightest and the most important flowers and the heroes of our composition. Next, we going to use our liner and start drawing again the most beautiful flowers in our composition. This term will destabilizing the paintings. We're using the angular lines we learn doing the warm up. We may need some practice. There is a rose here, which is also important because it attract some more attention. You may need to drop a little rose, and next what we have to do is adjust with a one line will have to show the entire volume of the flower composition. Just the same kind of lines which we did during warm up. I'm going to show a leaf coming out here and there. Now we can add some leave shapes here and there in our volume; not to much just a little bit of it, then we'll show the color of what kind of leaves these are and what kind of flowers. Next, we'll show them branches which are coming out. So they're stabilized, very is simple. You can always add more later. To keep it simple at this stage, Next what to they have to know will draw all the details which are closest to us, so until bam and the wood show this as a texture of a wood also the color will help us to show there. Next step closest Chas is this beautiful frame. If you are not confident and your drawing skills you can start drawing with a pencil first and then liner and doesn't have to look exact. But it has to make clear and understandable for the customer. Next, the closest ties is the little candle and the jar. Next one is this shining cup with also candles inside but we can't see the candle when we I look up front and the farthest of us is vase itself, which is actually a jar. We'll been drawn only the lines and we can still see from the objects. Just these two lines and there is a piece of fallopia. The tinier details will end other and we'll end the color. Next one to have to do, we have to raise all the pencil lines we have. After we've removed all our pencil lines, we can start editing the color, in these class, the color is only the additional to shelve customer what colors will be used in our centerpiece composition. We'll start again with the brightest and the most important elements of our composition, which here are P and E's. I mix the color so I'll be using, so this is bright pink and this is a green. I mixed with ocher marine. This is a sienna and sepia. We'll start with our bright pinks. Am using the medium brush. Next I have to let this sections, I just painted let them dry, so add some pink to our jar, which is bright blue. Again, I'm leaving a lot of whitespace may cause it's a sketch style painting. Next we will paint wooden plaque with sepia. While our flowers dry, we can paint our frame inside. Next we'll paint this candle jar. After we waited to an hour, flowers are totally dry, we can start painting our greens. We want the painting of the entire green area, again, just it in color to show that there is a green. I mix some green with ultramarine blue, and we're starting with the darkest areas next to the flowers to show the depth. Then we'll denote them a little bit. Let's add some yoda green for the lighter areas. Next let's add some shadows on different details of our composition, and some texture to the wood, and then little bit of shadow on the jar. Also, our flowers, I need there some more shadows inside, just few lines here and there. Few more branches and leaves here and there. Now let it dry. Now that the paint is dry, you can take your liner again, and add final details you want to if it's necessary. So try to keep it light and clear, so I think our center base composition is ready. 6. Sweetheart Table: In this painting we'll be drawing the sweetheart table. We'll start by drawing in pencil, two rectangles. One is five centimeters by 14, and another one is behind it from backdrop it's 11 centimeters by 19. You can find the exact measurements in the project section of the class basic file attached there. Now, after we've drawn these rectangles, we'll have to join the objects which are not flowers but the decorative objects which are on the table. In this composition these are symmetrically situated candles. So I'll draw them with a pencil and say they're here. Next again we'll have a pencil, will have to draw the main volume of all the flowers. So they're going to look at the entire volume of flowers. It's like little clouds doesn't have to be exact. Also as you see on that backdrop will have also some branches and flowers. So add a bit volume too and three arches upside down. On this point we are not drawing the balloons yet. Next if you're confident enough, you can either start using a liner. With the liner we'll add drapes to our table, add the line we were practicing to angle warm-up. Next we'll draw our objects to convey any decorative objective you want. It can be a bird cage or books, or maybe you don't have any objects on the table. These are our candles and next again like in a flower composition, we have to draw the brightest and the most important flowers in our composition. Here I can notice those are below hide ranges and a clusters of pink flowers. So we can first decide our pencil where they'll go and loop hide ranges just here. I'm starting with hide ranges, and then we'll have a liner we're showing the shape just like we did during sterilization. I'm leaving some gaps between the lines because the drawing is way smaller than flower composition, so I don't want to have way too many lines. Next I will show the clusters of pink flowers. Just done a few of them and the rest will show the color. Just a circle of a dot in the middle, very simple. At this point this is enough. The rest of the flowers we'll just show with the same line we practiced during warm up, like little leaves are coming out. Maybe branches here and there, just to show the main volume all around. Let me fill more flowers here. I may add flowers here and there when I think it's still empty. Next what we have to do we'll have to draw again the main flowers on top which are white and yellow roses, and roses we'll draw like small spirals here and there. Once your handle get used to it, you'll going to do it way faster. Then again we'll show them the entire volume of the flowers and branches. From here on the sides we have some branches. I'll draw them the way we practiced during starzation. Hanging branch and leaves on it. We will be adding more branches later after we'll add color and the lawns. If we'll think it's necessary. Next, what we have to do is to decide where our balloons will go. We don't have to draw all of the balloons in our sketch. We just need to show that they are there. So the customer will understand which elements will be in their composition. Also, we have to add chairs and some balloons. They have this tassels, hanging on. Just like we did in coloring our flower composition we are starting with the heroes of our decor of the brightest and the most beautiful flowers. On the table it will be hydrangea and clusters of pink flowers. On the top it will be white and yellow roses. So we'll start coloring them. Make sure you're blue is dry before you start painting pink flowers next to it. If need the lighter shade, just add more water to the water color. While our flowers are drying, we can think of the drapes on that table will be light like pink. The same pink will enter our balloons. Next we will add some shadows on our candles. After our pink and blues are dry we can start adding our greens. First we will add green hydrangea and mixing yellow with green. To give this some bright and beautiful hydrangea colors. Next I'll use some dark green, mix some green with ultramarine blue to make it darker and colder. First I'll paint around the roses. Again, we're leaving a lot of white space to keep our sketch light and the branches. Next I'll add a little bit of shadows in our bottom flowers, just a tiny bit especially around the candles. Next we can paint on tussles and I'll go in with my nude pencil. Now let's add some color to our chairs. Also our backdrop has some textures, so we can edit really white because we don't want to distract from other decor. Little bit of see here and diluting it with a lot of water and just adding a few lines here and there and to make them straight. After everything is dry, as usual our last tap of sketching as adding more shadows, more details with small brush and aligner. Just try still to keep it light, don't overdo it. A few more other lines and branches and the sketch of our sweet art table is ready. 7. Drawing a Wedding Arch: In this video we will be drawing an arch. To draw a wedding arch we will have to start with drawing a rectangle, which is 10 by 14 centimeters. Then pencil around it's corners. Then we have our pencil arch. We have to show the main volume of flowers the same way we were doing on the table. So it will be like a big cloud which is going around the arch. Next we have to draw the flowers which are the most important in our flower arch. Then here as we see they are the clusters of roses. Very beautiful, dark red roses. First with a pencil we will find some light angle, then we will draw roses here and there. Then we will draw the most beautiful branches. Ones which are like moist. Next we have to show again the full volume of from flowers with the line. Next we have to draw the construction metal parts on the arch. Now I have to erase all of the pencil lines and then we can start coloring our arch. The same way as we did on our flawed composition and our table decor sketch. first of all, we'll color the most bright and beautiful flowers in our composition. We will start with clusters of roses and purple flowers. I think some purples are totally dry we can start painting our greens. We will be using different shades of greens, mixing greens with blue, and green with yellow so we have different interesting types of greens. They can decide where do we need more branches, and we will be adding with our liner, also, we can add a chandelier for more interest. To draw onto the air, we will draw two lines in the middle, with a pencil. Then smaller line here, and a circle and then some leaves and few more candles. Then just add some beads and our center will be ready. Now we just have to raise our pencil lines after our paint is dry and our wedding arch is ready. In next video we will be drawing a wedding cake. 8. Drawing a Wedding Cake: This means I will be drawing a wedding cake. With all the knowledge we got from all other videos, it'll be a very easy task. I'll start by drawing with pencil the rectangles. Bigger one, a medium, and a smaller one. The measurements you can find in the project section of the class. Next step, we'll, draw the same thing as we did with drawing boards and table, and final position, we'll shelf the volume of the flowers or any other rectangle on top of the cake. Just to make it more interesting, let's decided to put humor flowers on either layers. So here and here. Next step we'll draw the most beautiful pink and most bright flowers with our liner. The other volume we'll just show with the same form in irregular one. It's been the leaves, here are the branches. Then this flowers because if this extra half to outline the cake itself. Now let's erase our pencil lines. Next step, we have to add color. Because our cake is a white one, we'll just add color to all flaws. Again, we'll start with the most brightest and the most important ones, then we'll end up with coloring the leaves. Next, I shall take. Now allocate this ink. You just name contain ink. Now, let's add some green to the composition. The last step is always adjust some more details. I need to peel more shadows to our flowers to bring more depth. Not odd ways in cake incinerator. 9.
