1. Visual Note Taking 101 intro: Hi. Welcome to the show. No taken one, a one. And if you are reading this title, I'm assuming you know that this is a very basic class for a starting to comprehend. No taking our sketch notes, as are the and known as, well, Braves to tell you about me. My name is Saudi, and I'm a co founder of storytelling and also my co founder off visual storytelling, both brands. I run it with my husband. I'm a visual thinker in the sketch Notre. I'm an industrial designer by profession. I had a master degree in industrial the science, but my research wasn't column. I tried to get everything about color on the anywhere. You can use it in different aspects of the time and also already sent Teacher for more than 12 years. As a brand, we are Beashel storytelling, and we dedicate our time to develop official thinking, sketch notes, storytelling and design thinking in organizations, agencies and schools to enhance their communication. We have work with different companies and schools to create their best connection between their employees under client through clarity and communication. Back Oh is a strategic mind behind or team and me I am the creative mind behind our team in this class, I will review the topics that we're going to learn. And I will also explain how this course will help you understand visual communication. How very supplied in visual notes or schedules. How will this curse transform me? You will develop official communication skills for official knows you will reconnect with your creative child and you were going Teoh to see what I mean later way will the mystify myths about growing you will learn to unlucky original opportunity. And also you will understand what are the basic rules for using official. Also, you will learn the step by step of official communication by using it in Bischel notes. And you will know what are the key elements for using this technique, how to apply it. I'm going to stop a little bit in this moment to tell you who is this class for and I mean is not, you know, you don't have to know everything about these topic. You don't have to be a designer or related to the field. It doesn't matter. Do you think you can drop? Really? It doesn't matter. And no matter what professionally have, or your age or your generation in which you belong, you will learn to use and a hands issue communication.
2. Sletchnote materials : well, the basic materials for this class, Really We're going to use years a black Sharpie or a pin and my paper like this. Here you have these paper you can use recycled paper. Also, it doesn't matter. And this is a Sharpie that you can use every sharply it's going to Fine. But I want to show you that you can use this one if you notice it has a really thin point and, uh, wider point. And this is good for where we're going to do. But also, you have a pen with leak liquid gel ink. It's also fine, whatever you have. And I want to show you that you don't have. You don't have to have a special materials for starting this class. You can also ive you want use a pencil and an eraser. Um, you can start on Lee with the with the pen. But if you have these where we can also use it if you feel comfortable tracing first with pencil and the community to race everything you don't like
3. Visual notes vs Sketchnotes: we're going to talk about in this class about official note taking birth as the schedules. Maybe you heard about this on. Also, I'm going to talk about Toys Micro. First of all we have here, the two concepts and the official noted, taken and sketch notes are both concepts in English that they describe if the action official no taking, it's exactly what it means. You take notes visually, and it skitch notes. It's drawing did out the notes on the difference between both of them. It's the intention that you have when you are using both of them but one of them over another. This simplicity you use if you a used color for, uh, pointing something out on detail that you take or the details that you use in order to create your schedule. The napkin, a much it belongs to them room, and he realized that he could use normal or simple simple shapes to communicate through officials, and the other one is from my grody that he is also a designer. He likes to draw. He uses growing, but he didn't use really the sketch note ability to communicate or to take notes. He used to do everything like most of you probably do also, that if you are in a, um, in a meeting, in a talk or something like that, you have information that is not necessary. Easy to recorder. For example. You try to write everything down in your notebook and not necessarily you come back to your notes, that happens to him. He didn't come back then for his notes. And also, he didn't understand it. Well, because he was more concerned about writing everything down Done. Really, um, comprehend information that he was receiving. So hey, tried Or he asked himself if it waas something different from from from him to do. And he created the concept office kitchen ALS. So who is Mike Rohde? Well, is the creator off this kitchen of movement and Bischel? No taking. It's the first action that you use. If you look for it, you're going to find Isler of information and Eller off images related to that, um, technique. But micro did it waas creating, um, something meaningful for him. He used thesis sketches to signify the information that he waas hearing, and he was concentrating on Lee on the important information. The big ideas up or the phrases that have meaning for him. So that's why he has started to create sketch notes. Almost 10 years ago, he never raised his name so that the sketch notes wouldn't be limited in the in its growth and the development waas such that is that it is now a worldwide movement. So he didn't want to patent the name or registered name and kill it town because he knew inside and it was going to be super big. And it is. The other thing that Mike Rohde created is the possibility of us. Teoh use this work, uh, in a more for my way. Done. Do those or drawing for your business. You can actually create a business around it because you know that the communication of these officials had a meaning and have a really value for different feels other than the design feel or arts field
4. Enhance your learning: Well, my suggestions tree has your learning when you start a class or you buy a book and not only because you acquire that book or not course you have the knowledge you actually have to follow the development off the class from the beginning to the end and doing the exercise that I proposed to you and also practice everything that you have to practice in order to get these ability. This is killed. I also recommend, used to set aside time. It was use kettle your development and building their skills. But also remember that you already know about growing and official communications. We're going to to talk about this thesis topic on day. I really recommend you to have more than 10 or 20 minutes a day or more consistent time. Throw your week and finally, I recommend to you growing what you learn in each class. If you realize this classes have more text Dan growing at this point that it's completely, uh, on purpose because I want you to draw what you learn until this point, and you can have these drawings as your first attempt and you're going to compare everything you do from this moment for the starting point to the end, you're going to notice the difference. So repeat everything you see in this class as well as completely exercises that will appear during the classes so you can get the most out of what I'm going to teach you here.
5. Reconnect yourself, You can Draw!: Hi. Welcome back. So we're going to reconnect ourselves with our inner creative child. I hope you enjoy it so every child can drop. Guess what? You were once a child, so you can draw and we're going to figure out in this class. Think about it. Remember, When was the last time you drew Leave you thinking about this? Well, I'm taking a sip of my tea and I suggest to you that you do the same. Relax, get comfortable and have a better than the one that you like. And now that we have sufficient time to think, I hope you could answer that question. When was the last time you drew? But also have you another question? Did you know we learned to draw before speaking? Maybe you have considered that, but we asked a child draw, then speak by imitation, and then we learn to write. So this is a very it's a very descriptive information. But it is not about the complexity of information. Because you can say, Well, it's easier to draw than to write is not like that. Where in that order of thought, if it's easier to drop while you are in drawing. So we're going. Teoh dismissed. If I some myths about drawing so this drawing myths, I'm going to connect them to all information in order to, uh, connect yourself to your inner creative child. The 1st 1 This is, uh, well, it's not my favorite because it's not about in favorite information. But let's say it's my favorite. I have to. I can a drop. So this is a very harsh definition of yourself. I can't grow. Okay, let's say you can't draw realistic things. That's different because the reality that we see that we experiment and that we perceive it is different from what we can draw. And we judge yourselves in that relation because we can dro realistic things. So that's a difference. Another one. It's a gift with which one is warm or not. Well, that's rolling here. That's talent and talent. It's approves position that gives you results with practice. So a child that has that is talented for drawing if if this child doesn't practice is not going to go anywhere but with practice and another child doesn't doesn't have the talent or the previous position with also practice can give, you can't have the same results. So that means if the practice that makes the drawing process, not the talent throwing is about impressing others, that is so wrong, because drawing it's a relaxing and it's fun. But the truth is, when you were younger, probably you noticed that your classmates receive, um, words of encouragement, impression even about their drawings. But you didn't receive any, so that makes you feel uncomfortable. Or that maybe you don't even drove. Ask the others. So you have to stop growing because you can grow. It's reinforcing the same information. A good drawing is the realistic drama that's so wrong again with the reality. There are many ways to describe reality for Dorothy's one painting. It's another I mean Picasso. Hello, he waas his cubic age and the representation of the reality was really subjective. So it is not a realistic drawing. The has value or not. A good artist can draw anything that's also wrong, because you have to, um, experience learning and specialization. If you draw for example, um, landscapes or buildings. Well, if you want to drove both, you could you could be ever you could be good, but I'm Brach that you could focus own just drawing buildings. But in fact, if you want to draw of buildings and landscapes and also painting landscapes and faces and comics and everything that has to be related with with growing, you're going to be average in everything. So you have to specialize in something in the thing that you have more connection with. So that is wrong. I put an artist with quotation marks because is not the artistic drawing that we're talking about here. You need a special tools to make dropping. No, that it's also wrong in so many levels, you can draw with just a pencil, a sharp European, everything that you can have at your hand that make marks in terms in us in a surface, preferably the surface to be, ah, paper notable. But you don't have to to master the tools every two. I mean watercolor calligraphy, um, all painting. Did you touch her away? You need to find a connection with 12 and be really good at it. So we're going to start with pen or pencil as your choice. You are too old to start these one. It's particularly painful to me. It crushes my soul sometimes because people think that there's only two ways or Children that throwing or qualified adults that Kendra and this is so wrong, That's not true. As I was saying, Every child can draw and you were a child once, so you can draw, but you start doing it and sometimes it because the the misconception off the drawing just bean uh, an activity that or a child could do or on um, qualified. ALF can do. What do you do? You can't. You don't have to have the different age. Drawing is for all ages, period and the last month and one of my favorite also drawing I'm painting require the same skill and does also so, so wrong. Drawing and painting at are completely different activities. They had different creations. Skills growing has to do with lines with shapes, while painting has to get to emotions and materials and different types of creation. That's so different. Okay, well, now that we talk about these different meats, ask yourself. You can draw. Just answer the question for yourself
6. Sketchnotes basic elements drawing: Oh, well, I'm going to talk about D basic elements versus basic firms, and it's pretty much all the same, but it has to be with different fields that so so you can have them. A You have them in in your a slight, but also I'm going to, uh, to get to my paper, and I'm going to explain this elements. We have the point. We have the line a triangle, every side, equal and a square and also a cynical. And these are five basic draw wing elements. Okay, well, the other ones is also the point. Another line. But here we have different types of lines. For example, in angle I could a spiral and a loop, and these are cold, broken forms and also and the lives that is pretty much these one. But it's easier to do an avoid than a perfect circle. Okay, and I also a triangle rectangle because it's easier to do a rectangle than a perfect square , a house and a cow out. These are close forms, so this is the basic drawing elements, and this are defined first by Sony Brown, which we're going to, um, see later the reason why I show you. This is because everything that surrounds you could be done. Could be booby drunk by these basic elements or basic forms. Which is pretty cool. For example, you can't have. He's a square, and this is a rectangle. And this is a coffee. Okay, Are a cup. What we do? This is equal to the rectangle that is. This one blows the's shape that is or aspire or a loop. And this coat that could be this one or this one. So these three shapes makes you a cup. So it's pretty easy thinking about that, right? So I encourage you to create things that are around you. And I started to think about them in these basic drawings. Just think about it. I'm going to turn the bitch around and, for example, we're going to have a normal one that it's the house. Could be a hobbit house. Okay, I'm going to their house. Yeah. So this is a house, Okay, that it's a bad rolling off a house. Okay, But Edie's I have, right. This is a bowl. A good again, a cup. But I'm going to the different one. I'm going to do it like this, and its isn't a hot in the race there. That is the one that I have here. It could be like this in Brand and also a pencil. So they set of lines rectangle. It's square with a little bit tangle and the curve a circle in a close shape. So you realize that you can do this exercise with everything that you have said that you have around you. So try to just think about it. Just see what? Just observe. Uh, your surroundings observe objects, animals, everything. That it's around you and just think about how can you create them with the basic forms?
7. Doodles: Now we're going. Teoh Do do well, This is the class of doodles. But we're going to do if you well, probably. You know what I mean? Probably you heard about the term before doodle. It's an informal drawing that allows you to release your creativity by not having the pressure of trying for my already stay drawing. Studies show that drawing on describing improves understanding and creative thinking. But the problem with this definition is that is not flattering. For example, the synonyms off Biddle. It's a scribble. Cartoon marks are the worst one numb since March. So, well, probably of your novel you don't want to do. You don't want to be told about doodling in your university or your work, so it's very difficult for us to do at at some point. But the fact is that we were doodling on the back of our notebooks, so it was very simple because it waas informal, but also nobody was watching us. The thing is, we learn in different ways. We have four ways off learning auditory, Bischel, kinesthetic and the reader writing. The truth is, you can learn Onley, fight, using one off them and combining the emotion with it. For example, hearing a music Oh, hearing something that that it's beautiful or or it's profoundly aggressive. You can learn things about it, and you can remember things about it. You can learn. Just be with officials, for example, a movie that also involves, or emotion the kinesthetic. If the way weak combined, for example, what we hear in what we draw or write on the reading, writing that it's read a book and having an emotion of it, and reading and writing about what we are reading and having an ambush just learned by the single one, plus emotion you can learn from that. You can also learn if you combine two of them. For example, Bischel, an Audi Tony, that it's more like the movie or the kinesthetic and auditory or the reader, the reading and visual combination. But the fact is that a sketch note doodles, icons everything that it comes with the bishop vocabulary involved the four of them. That's why it's a powerful and it's easier, and it's better for you. We have never been talking visual language, neither home nor at school, not at work. You will have to learn it by your own by yourself, so I presume that's why you are in this class. Also, this topic was research by Sony Brown, her book The Digital Revolution. And she said, This, my friends, the doodle has never been an enemy off intellectual thought. In fact, he's one of his greatest allies. Why is that? Well, because of a simple thing, Diddle is to make spontaneous marks the help, I think No wonder maybe you can realize this or try it the next time While you're doodling , just do Italy. Next time you are in a meeting unknown. A meaningful meeting, something that you want to remember Try to diddle You're going to realize that you pay more attention off what's been said then if you were trying to pay a Taysir without nothing while you are trying to be sure lies, information is not going to happen. But where you are focusing you're yourself in something like doodles and they're hearing we're going to realize that that you remember most of the topic. I'm going to take a piece of paper. I'm going to use the Sharpie the at this point, and just to do this spirals Okay, Now that you do this. You can do that as fast as I did, or just trying to enjoy it, for example. Okay, well, now that you do this, try to force yourself to see something in this spirals in this Minimalists marks or spontaneous Max. Okay. So for example, chickens Oh, birds, for example. This is the I we have here and the wing. This one is my favorite because I also always do this. He's one is like flying or will maybe a ducking this one is running these one iss singing problem for Ali Thes one is just observing something. This is this one is also for you. I know this one or falling. The one is going to eat something and this one is the most. This is and here. So do you see how easy it's transforming some doodles into self in that you recognize this exercise? It's a great way for you to smash your creativity. But also realizing that if I waas listening something maybe a both cast, I'm going to pay more attention because my intention is no focusing. Judging myself of the best way off creating this one is just having fun just focusing on doing this. Marks and my other, uh, sense is going to be open to capture and, ah, different type of information.
8. Warm up: Welcome back. Now we're going to do some warm up exercises, okay? This is an observation exercise. First your hand My hand on the wrist has muscles that probably are not being used for many years for a long time. Probably this time you don't right a lot for all you type a lot of numbness inside writing or even drawing. So at the end of these exercises, probably your hand is going to retire. That's perfectly normal. Don't worry. But we're going to do or exercise now. Okay, So I have this, um, cup. This is a little one. What? I encourage you to try it. Observing also about the reason why we have a bad time drawing is because sometimes we want to recreate the dimensional shapes like this one with me again. Come back to this. The way I see is this car that probably is, like, thes his way like that here. Okay, so it's like drawing. Sometimes we do these to actually say that he was full. Okay, this this is empty, but it's easier for us doing this. And it's a cup. But when we are starting our drawing skills, we tend to draw this. That's different. Probably you do diesels, but that's different. So we judge or abilities base own what? These shapes A appears against these one. Right? So that's why we used the basic knowing elements. If you notice the's shape is like this, he, uh yeah, this is a circle. And this is a rectangle, right? No two dimensional shape, Just a circle. And just every time. Okay, this is a tub. You Then we have this. The cup that I draw. It's like this shape, right? Isn't this beauty? But I'm asking you to do It's just observed the forms, as in its basic shape. This is Well, this is our line. Another line. I'm not lying in the little line or Eric Tunggal. And this is a curve, right? Everything here is a car. So what I'm telling you is if you if you look at this cup as these basic shape you can through it, like the first thing I drove in the last class Tango poor and that's it. This is a up. Okay, Well, what I ask you to practice is the next thing. Okay, The next exercise is this. First find 10 things. Kilby a chair, a cup, a cell phone computer, things that are in your kitchen or in your office and just, uh, look for 10 with Tim I temps and drill this I temps with the basic forms. That's the first exercise later. What? Once you finish that, just try to use five of them. For example, let's say you choose five. I'm going to draw this and you can't use a cup because I'm going to do that. Okay, on what you're going to do, it's try 25 different shapes. Okay, so let's say we have the 1st 1 Um, let's see about a variation. Okay, then. Another one. - But so I finished 25. I was throwing from the normal ones, the easiest ones, and because I was trying to do these more different or different shapes, Well, I started to him, banned myself. Even the probably this cups couldn't exist. It doesn't matter, are cops. So this is the first exercise that I encourage you to create and of low to the platform. The other thing is that you choose one or two or wherever this is this is your choice. But you can try, For example, this one. I try to growing drill as many as you can bean your paper, and that is going to be a good practice for you in order to always remember this cups. So this is a great exercise. Repeat everyone or the best one that you like, or that it's resonating with you about a cell phone, a chair and water. So choose First, create 10 items with a simple shapes. Then, um, peak five of them and try to create off the five different variations. 25 variations off this. So you're going to have 100 of drawings. I know. I know that and off course. That's why I encourage you to to share this exercises without in the bath form because that it's going to be a really good practice for you. It's going to, uh, tire your hand A little weed, Don't worry, but it's the best way to learn how to draw their simple forms in order to use them in your schedules. Now that you have finished this class, take a few minutes in your own Relax. Maybe you want to drink your favorite beverage. I drink tea and right all the ideas and thoughts that this information lives you. What message do you receive? Think about it from the perspective of that boy or girl who once made drawings and then suddenly stop. What? Your drawings were creative. Just you didn't think about them or somebody else. Why you stop? What happened? How do you feel about the drawing skills after discuss, do you think? And do you feel that you can drop? Just ride east only for yourself. See you in the next class.
9. Visual vocabulary: Oh, I will come back. We're going to talk about visual vocabulary way. We'll really see doodles and do does. It's a great way for, um, clarify your ideas for having phone, but also for the creative process. On the other hand, an icon is the representation of an object. In a similar way. The word comes from the Greek A come, which means literally a much so you can see two icons there. The 1st 1 is the recycle I come and the other one is the location I can that you probably know from Google Maps. This icons are really simple. For example, if you notice them in your mail, the little M below that you see there, it's a Nikon. And as I'm saying, they're really basic. They have no such detail, just basic lines and shapes. That means that you can have on a sketch note from details plus Aikens plus text, and that it's called a visual vocabulary. Everything that you can create with I comes with doodles or text. It's a visual vocabulary, so I also encourage you to transform for some off those shapes that you created in the last class to Aikens That means that if you create them with details in the drawing, tried to simplify as much as possible. And that is going to create a night. It doesn't matter how many of them do you create? Just try a few and see what happens. Going to talk about the show life and you may wonder library libraries from books. Okay, yes, but it's also the reference that we use for keeping folders, files, books in libraries, in our homes in a physical way in us a reference or using these files and folders in our computer. So future references. So a Bischel library is an organized collection of categorized growing things we give them . We keep these drones sometimes in our minds, to inspire us or use them later. We have to get used to repeat the library to achieve a memorized repertoire. As I was telling you, the last class, you can repeat as much as possible one object to really memorize them in your brain, and it allows you to draw easily and quickly
10. Ideas not art: now that you create their drawings and share them in the blood from, we're going to talk about a more important topic now that you recognize that you can draw and that you can use doodles. Aikens an official libraries to create schedules, ideas, not art. That is the main message in this class. A sketch note. It's about capturing and sharing ideas, not are not beautiful or pretty drawings, just ideas. Even bad drawings can share ideas. So don't worry about how you draw at this moment Turkistan, Quickly creating simple drawings of your ideas. You see the basic elements and shapes, focus on your surroundings and observing more shapes to act into your Beashel library.
11. Why Sketchnote?: Hi. Welcome back. We're going to ask ourselves why scheduled? Maybe you are asking yourself that question. Why is scheduled? Well, because engage your whole mind and create visual mops. That's why. Why spend extra time creating a sketch notes? If plane tix is enough, the answer is not enough. The Texas Not enough when you are a sketch noting you are combining hearing, seeing and thinking in which you are going to create by your hand drawing and scheduled. So you are combining different um, senses. Since we already know about the linked off the way we learn by hearing, seen and thinking we engage or whole census in order to create meaningful information through these, A scheduled A scheduled is dynamic and fun because help you concentrate in what you are doing. For example, when you are creating your schedule, you are engaged in hearing seen on thinking what you are hearing and seeing, creating mentally and a structure which you are going to write it down with your hand and draw this sketch note while you are in that state of full concentration, every destruction around you isn't going to pass through your state of mind. That's Why so it's so powerful in, And that's why it's so dynamic, because you are fully concentrate fully committed in what you are doing. Creating a schedules from the ideas you are hearing helps focus your mind on the present moment. Also, what you are noticing about a sketch notes is that they are fun and those relaxing this am This is light. You can tell that in in one of the sites there are a lot of text that probably resembles a lot. What do you have in your notebooks? A lot of text takes that maybe is difficult to understand or to read it again. That probably lacks of one of two words that we hope those words are in the main topic that you were talking about. Because, as we were saying before, when you are capturing what you are trying to here by hand, uh, writing it down, it's impossible to pay attention because you are concentrated own capture in words that you are not hearing information. A sketch note. Free yourself to focus on larger themes and the big areas so you can concentrate in make these do rules. This Aikens and this award that are meaningful for you, just for you. And the reason why are fun and relaxing is because they take you to the present moment and you are only concentrated in what you're doing at that precise moment. So as you drove your senses allow you to be concentrated and fully committed in what you are doing, and that's why you are relaxing.
12. Sketchnote technique; Listen up: Hi. Welcome back. So in this class, I want to show you how can I listen for a sketch noting So it's really simple. And in this case, it's a simple a schedule that I'm going to use for give you this information so festive fall, Listen up. Capturing and creating the sketch notes begins with after listening. If you are in here in a d s, you can't turn them into an effective sketch note. So this is the first thing a listen, but really, really listen. So for us to listen, we have the keys. Focus your attention on the speaker, eliminate distractions around you. Immerse yourself in the presentation. So these animals are three really simple steps that you can use for active listening. But we're going to analyze them a little bit better. So when you're listening actively, your mind capture ideas and a spot patters What I do. I directed my attention to the person that it's going to speak our shared information. Also another thing that I do, it's, um, eliminate Enfield destructions. In my case, I completely shut it off in airplane both and I if I can I record talk on Lee if I can. So that way my phone is being used and is not going to distract me. The other thing I do, it's I immersed myself in Merced my mind in the presentation because in that, um, his lights, I can found important information, or at least a clue off what they're going to talk about so I can start listening more accurate. Also, I'm going to right ideas or just simple words that I wanted to use and find connections later. And last thing I'm going to look for patterns. While are the patterns, for example, ive a people are actually talking about three. Kiss off what those of patterns. Also, when a person is start to talk about one thing and repeat this aspect of the talk in many times, that's something that the speaker wants us to remember. So that's another pattern, because you are actually capturing that war or that phrase many times during this peak. So but you can do its practitioners listening skills by using these five tips that I give you
13. Practice your new skill: Hi. Welcome back. So we're going to now practice your listening skills. So in this case, I'm going to do the first sketch, a note, and you can watch. Well, I, um, listening and deciding what I'm going to do. And I'm asking you to do the same with me. My first tip, This is mine. It's if you reign now, what you're going to do in this case a Ted talk. I asking you to first draw the title and the the speaker said That way you are in the mood of what you're going to and capture with the sketch note. So in this case, we're going to use the tuck from Mad Kat that it's called. Try something new for 30 days. This barrier is real short, so it's going to be easy for us to decide what we're going to do. I'm going to use a pencil for a future reference this pencil, it's a H B two. So it's easier if you trace first your words and your thoughts in connections with a pencil and later IEG the whole process. If you notice in this part of the paper, I had de, uh, listening technique which is observe our focus or, in addition, turn off your phone and then concentrate and to be a to you capture and right ideas and words and look for patterns said that it's what we're going to use for. It's catch noting with these beauty A few years ago, I felt like I was stuck in a rut. So I decided to follow in the footsteps of the great American philosopher Morgan Spurlock and trying something new for 30 days. The idea is actually pretty simple. Think about something you've always wanted to add to your life and try it for the next 30 days. It turns out 30 days is just about the right amount of time to add a new habit or subtract a habit like watching the news from your life. There's a few things that I learned while doing these 30 day challenges. The first was, instead of the months flying by for gotten. The time was much more memorable. This was part of a challenge I did to take a picture every day for a month, and I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing that day. I also noticed that as I started to doom or and harder 30 day challenges, my self confidence grew. I went from desk dwelling computer nerd to the kind of guy who bikes to work for fun. Even last year, I ended up hiking up Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. I would never have been that adventurous before I started my 30 day challenges. I also figured out that if you really want something badly enough, you can do anything for 30 days. Have you ever wanted to write a novel? Every November, tens of thousands of people try to write their own 50,000 word novel from scratch in 30 days. It turns out all you have to do is write 1667 words a day for a month. So I did. By the way, the secret is not to go to sleep until you've written your words for the day. You might be sleep deprived, but you'll finish your novel. Now. Is my book the next great American novel? No, I wrote it in a month. It's awful, but for the rest of my life, if I meet John Hodgman at a Ted party, I don't have to say I'm a computer scientist. No, no. If I want to, I can say I'm a novelist. So here's one last thing I'd like to mention. I learned that when I made small, sustainable changes, things I could keep doing, they were more likely to stick. There's nothing wrong with big crazy challenges. In fact, they're aton of fun, but they're less likely to stick. When I gave up sugar for 30 days, Day 31 looked like this. So here's my question to you. What are you waiting for? I guarantee you, the next 30 days are going to pass whether you like it or not. So why not think about something you have always wanted to try and give it a shot for the next 30 days? Thanks so another. We're finished and I have these doodles here. It doesn't matter. You can. You can start like this because it's the first approach that we're going to use. You can start like this, and now we're going to ink the whole process. Every member, because we didn't do anything else. We now can remember when he was talking about So, for example, the first thing because remembers getting old in this personal. It's getting ready to shoot, to be your own process and meaningful information for you. So he asked a day beginning. Well, at the beginning, his say that where he is going to try something that Morgan Spurlock did. So we think this part. Okay, so he was inspired by him. Then he says, Think about something. You want to try and try it for the next three days? I imagine reading a book two weeks for three days. Okay said, That's thing also could be Tim Thousands tips a day. So these things are so things that you can add to your routine. But also you can't distract. For example, no TV, no sugar treater, but also no good vein. So thes things you destructive from your life for 30 days. Oh, now he's started to say to talk about what he did. So he take it. He took a challenge off, taking very pictures a day. Also, he started to bike to work his community. But he says that these things inspired him. So he tried, um, succeed to hag killing my Gerald in Africa. So because he was inspired heels a try to create his first noble because he realized, in every remember people tried to write and ogle so the's no bills she contain 15,000 works that it's a huge number, but he realized that it wasn't many words a day and he finish it. So no, he can't say I'm a lost. He also said that for doing this, you realize that probably you're not going to sleep very much if at first you didn't do your words your daily words. So it's also a sign in this case for um is leaping to probation. But by the end of this talk, he says that big changes could be fun but also frightening. While it's more changes arm are sustainable, so you can start the things like this on practice. Different ways in which you can accent your words are the B ideas. And if you notice here, we here have the buttons here. Still, talk about biking and pictures here also took about here picture, but when he bring forces this information because he was inspired but the's challenge and did those things by himself, you realize that the pattern is that he can do something that you want to try it or that you mean thinking about but not necessarily have the is the inspiration for doing it. So he finishes. We'd give it a try, give it a shut and encourage you to actually good dese by yourself. So at this moment, we already have. Our is scheduled. It's a simple one, but it's an effective work because if you remember some I was telling you, that is This technique is about ideas, not art. What is going to happen with this is sketchy notes. Two weeks from now, I'm going to be able to remember this video because it was meaningful and probably I could relate with information. So if you realize we focus and information, we didn't have any instructions. I waas a concentrated into beauty. I just started to a right ideas in wards and look for these patterns.
