About This Class

In this class, you'll learn everything you need to get started with Final Cut Pro, and how to take your editing to the next level. We'll work together to create a YouTube-style video following a 5-part workflow.

  1. Firstly, We'll create our project, import our footage, and get to assembling the A-Roll. We'll learn how to use In and Out points effectively, and how to cut out all the inevitable mistakes and pauses to form a sharp, engaging edit. And we'll learn a lot of keyboard shortcuts on the way to make the process as efficient as possible.
  2. B-Roll Assembly - With our A-cut sorted, we'll make our edit more interesting by adding B-roll
  3. Coats of Polish - We'll add background music to sound more pro, sound effects, titles and effects,  and color grading to give our edit the look and feel we crave.

If you're a complete beginner to Final Cut Pro, we'll ease you in with the basic fundamentals. And if you're an intermediate or an advanced user, hopefully, you'll find something here that's useful!

1. INTRODUCTION TO FINAL CUT PRO: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Final Cut Pro version 10.6. This video is going to be a really short video. I just wanted to share a few things with you before we get started that I think are important to know about Final Cut Pro. Firstly, this version of Final Cut Pro version 10.6 is by far the best version for you to be taking the initiative to start learning Final Cut Pro, because this newest version has everything that you'll need to get started and create really well polished and professional videos. So really quickly, if you are not sure if you're on Final Cut, 10.6 and you don't really know which Final Cut you're using. I'm going to show you exactly how to make sure your Final Cut is completely up-to-date where it needs to be. So what you're gonna wanna do is just go over to your app store. And when that opens, just type in Final Cut Pro. And you will be greeted with Final Cut Pro right here. Now, if you scroll down just a little bit to Version History, it will tell you which version you're using. I'm using the newest ten the newest 10.6 version. If you're not using this version, it will probably say update right here. So just go ahead and click Update and then make sure your final cuts completely up to date. So for those of you that don't know, Final Cut Pro is an Apple only software, meaning that it is only usable if you have an Apple device such as a MacBook. Final Cut Pro is also a really, really great software to start with because it's just really fast, it's clean, it's user-friendly and easy to use. Like all Apple products really are. Now with everything. There are pros and cons and yes, Final Cut Pro has a lot of each, but way more pros and cons, which is why I think Final Cut Pro is not only great for beginners, but really for everyone. I add it as a full-time job. And I'm well-versed with the more industry standard platforms like Premiere Pro and After Effects. But I choose Final Cut Pro every time. Why? Because this might be shocking news. But Final Cut Pro has so many professional features deep into the software. Some of the features are even better than the industry standard editing softwares on the market in my opinion. So whether you want to be a YouTuber or just an industry editor, Final Cut Pro is honestly an amazing option to go with. And I'm super excited that you guys chose to learn this amazing and fun software with me. So let's not waste any more time and let's get straight into it. 2. HOW TO CREATE A NEW PROJECT: So in this video, we're going to go over how to create a new project inside of Final Cut Pro. And if you've used other editing softwares before, then this process might be a little bit different, but let's get straight into it. So assuming that you've downloaded Final Cut Pro this point, you're going to want to just go ahead and click the application and just wait for it to pop up. So once Final Cut Pro comes on the screen, you'll be greeted with this page. So the first thing we're gonna do is come up here to these four little icons next to each other where it says untitled. We're going to click and hold to rename. And if you haven't watched the resources yet of this course, we're going to be editing a video for YouTube. So I filmed a video specifically for this course as if I was filming it for YouTube and we're going to edit it together. So because of that, we're going to name this project, how to get hired as editor. Because that is the name of my YouTube video that I made for this course. So this is what's called a library. Like if you go to File New, you will see that Final Cut Pro is really weird in this way. This is the most complicated part of this course, honestly, their file management system. So basically when you put new, you have a new project, a new event, and a new library. And basically, a library is what you would think a new project is. So a library is like an entire new video in a project is just a new timeline really. And then an event is more like a bin. So if that makes sense, we'll go through it right now. As you can tell this, these four dots right here for little stars, star squares, wherever you want to call them. The reason I named this, how to get hired as an editor is because that's the name of our project in this is our main project, so you can toggle this on. And then inside of this project, we have been otherwise known as an event. That's what Final Cut Pro names. And so we're gonna do is we're going to call this event or a bin. We're going to rename it to masturbate. So I like to click and hold to rename. And I'm going to rename it Master been. What we're gonna do is now that we have our masturbation, which this will make sense when we start importing our footage. We're going to come over to new project, click on it and will be greeted with this page. And we're going to call this the same thing as our library, which our library is how to get hired as an editor, our main project. So now we're going to call our timeline, or it is Final Cut Pro X to call it new project. The same thing. So how to get hired as an editor? As I said, this is literally the most complicated part of this course. Final Cut Pro makes this part's super complicated for some reason in named things really weird. So just hang in there. I hope this makes sense. After we name our project, the name of our library, we're going to come down and I shot my YouTube video and for k. So I'm going to choose for k. If you guys are new to video, you'll likely choose ten ADP. But I'm gonna do for K at 23.98 frames per second. And I always recommend that you use this frame per second for this frame rate. And then we're going to keep everything else how it is, and then just click Okay, and then your timeline will come up. So now we're pretty much ready to go. Just one thing, just X out of this. Go to your finder and type in movies. This is another really weird thing that Final Cut Pro does. And once you find your movies folder right here, they like to put, whenever you create a new project, they like to put it in this folder. In Final Cut Pro projects or libraries take up a lot of space. So what you're gonna wanna do is if you do have an external hard drive, I use a Samsung T5. This is an external hard drive where I put all of my projects on, so I don't keep them on my computer. So I go in here and I drag and drop my projects into my hard drive. So I'm just going to create a new folder called How to get hired as editor. And now I'm going to drag and drop this project into this folder, and I'm going to delete it off my computer. And now I'm gonna go into my hard drives where I just dragged and dropped it. And I'm going to open that project. So now all of the work that I do, it's gonna be saved constantly and it's not going to be taking up space on my computer and make my computer slower and turn its gonna be taking up space on the hard drive that I just put it on. So that's how you create a new project. Basically to sum it up, a library is considered a project. A project is considered a timeline and an event is considered a bend. This will make a little bit more sense in the next lesson once you start importing footage. But that's how Final Cut Pro structures things. And remember that when you create an overall library or new project, it goes into your movies folder inside of your finder, which will take up a lot of space on your computer. So if you do have the option to get an external hard drive, go get one and put all of your projects onto there. So it takes up space on your hard drive instead of your computer. So let's move on to our next video. We'll actually be importing footage and organizing your footage. And this will start to make a little bit more sense to you. So I'll see you there. 3. ORGANIZE YOUR FOOTAGE: Okay, So in the last video, it was literally, as I said, the most complicated video if this entire course, because Final Cut Pro structures their management system and their files in a really weird, complicated way. So just bear with me. But now we're going to be organizing all of our footage. You haven't yet. Go ahead to the download section of this course. In download all of the files for that we're gonna be editing together or better yet, just film your own YouTube video and follow along with the principles that I'll be teaching here as of now, what we should have in the download section is this entire folder here with the arrow or the main talking head. Have assets, will have audio, you'll have the B-roll, this sound design and music and voice-over. You should have all of this and you should have it downloaded right now. Because what we're gonna do is we're gonna go into our final Cut Pro. And remember the last video, we created something called a master been. And if you toggle the arrow down, nothing comes up. And that's because what we're gonna do is we're going to take all of these folders that I've created and that you've downloaded with all of the footage and the assets and the audio that you need to be following along with me in this course. You're going to highlight all these folders and drag and drop them in, hover them over the master Ben. And when you see that arrow come up, you're going to drop it. You'll get this popup, just click Continue import. And if you see what happens is in your master been, now it'll create like smaller bins or individualize each one of those categories or folders for you. So now if you click here and you have access to the voice-over, if you click here, you have access to the main video. If you put to the audio, you have all the audio. And if you click to the B-roll, you have all the clips at the B-roll. That's why in the last lesson, I named this master bend because it's like the mastermind or than the main thing that we're gonna be putting all of our folders or sub bands into just really quickly so you guys don't get confused. I know all you see here is a audio B-roll and voice-over. In here. There was a lot more sound design music and assets. I haven't put anything in the sound effects and music or assets in just yet. I will, as I continuously create things during this course, the time that you're watching this right now, you'll have assets in these folders by now. But the time of filming this, I have not yet created them because I'm really taking you through the process of creating and editing a YouTube video. So what we're gonna do is we're going to organize this. So we're going to start with a role. A role is, is it's your main video, it's your main talking heads. So in this case it's me. The message that I have for this video, the main talking head is my a roll. So I'm just going to click and hold, highlight everything and I'm going to drag and drop it into the timeline. So now you see that I have the entire talking head in my timeline. It's about nine minutes of raw footage. And I'm not going to touch my B-roll or my voice-over yet. But what I'm gonna do is I'm going to drag my audio. And so you could go ahead and drag the audio in. And we're gonna just going to drag it right beneath that clip. So just go ahead and click back on your master been just to keep everything nice and clean. So really the only thing that we organize board did here was this. We just drag and drop our a role or talking head and onto the main timeline. And then we put the external audio underneath it. So if you record your YouTube videos and you use a separate microphone like a lav mic like this, then you'll have an audio file separate from your video file, like we do right here. This is my audio file and this is my video file. In the audio that's coming from the main video file is just in camera audio. So in the next lesson before we start editing, we're gonna go through some keyboard shortcuts because keyboard shortcuts are really fundamental to learn and then make your editing process a lot faster. So let's hop straight into that video. 4. SYNCING EXTERNAL AUDIO WITH VIDEO: Hi, Welcome back to another video, guys. In this video we're gonna be talking about how to sync up your external audio with your main video file inside of Final Cut Pro. So you have a smooth and nice edit where you have good audio that's lined up with your main video. So there's a few techniques that you could use, but today we're going be talking about one in it's the one that I use. I think it's the most efficient in the most simple to use. If you see in this video that we're going to be, I clap before I start the video, so I say the name of the video and I clap. The reason I do that is because if you look at the audio waveforms here, so let's click on this icon over here. And let's just drag this up like this, this bar. It will make each track of your timeline expand. And once it expanded, you can see your audio waveforms a lot better. So when I clap, you can see that there's this big audio waveform and it goes up That makes a big peak in the wave forms when I clap. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to highlight the main clip. I'm going to click V and it's going to completely turn that clip off. I'm going to come to my external audio and I'm gonna look for a waveform that looks like a clock. There it is. So it's as simple as that because I know that the clapping makes the waveforms go up. I can therefore find what waveforms look like. There's a clap, go next to it. Listen, that's a clap. So now I could go back here. I hit B to turn this track back on. And I'll go back to the class, which was right there. And I will just line those two up and let's see how that is. So it's a little bit off. So let's just go a little bit closer. Perfect. So I think that that's summed up pretty well, but let's go to our main audio and just double-check. It looks like they're just a tiny bit off. So let's try to fix this just a little bit. Now you can go to, It's a lot easier because the wave forms are pretty much lined up. So you can go to any spot in your timeline and just drag and drop them until they seem pretty symptoms. And what I'll do is I'll actually come over here and I'm gonna go back and make my timeline back to the normal size. And listen. So that sounds pretty perfect. So now what I'm gonna do is I'm going to highlight my main clip and I'm going to detach the audio. And with that detached audio, I'm going to just click V. I'm not going to delete it, but I'm going to click V, which is going to deactivate it. And now I'm going to listen to the video with just the law of with just the audio from the law of Mike. You guys thank you for tuning in to another video where he got it. Okay. So I just before I deleted the in camera audio, I just wanted to make sure that the audio sounded good and it does. So now I'll go ahead and delete that. I'll just keep this audio and it's sounding really good. If you're looking at, it's really, it's perfectly synced up and lined up. And it's literally as simple as that. All you need to do is remember before you start filming or when you start filming, before you start delivering your video. Make sure you're in-frame and your audios on in class. And when you do that, the audio waveforms will peak up as I just showed you and you'll be able to sync up the audio very easy and fast. So we're getting really close to the point where we're going to start editing this a role or talking head. But first, I want to just show you guys in the next video one quick and simple technique to help you do it a little bit faster. 5. SPEEDING UP PLAYBACK FOR FASTER EDITING: Welcome back to another video, guys. In this video, I'm gonna be showing you a super quick technique. This video is going to be maybe two minutes. Because we're going to, in the next video, we're going to start actually editing our video. The main April are talking head of our YouTube video. But before we do that, I want to show you a technique that makes editing way faster. I know we covered some of this and the keyboard shortcuts video. But right now, I'm just going to show you really quick. We're gonna be using keyboard shortcuts to do so. And those keyboard shortcuts are gonna be J, K, and L. And what that's gonna do is if you click play and you click L, it will speed through. So watch this. So I'll click play. I'll click out. If I click L More than once, it'll keep speeding up to 102 times speed four times speed, speed in and we'll keep going until it just pauses. What I recommend is only going to speed because you could still understand what you're saying. I actually listened back to my editor to speed. This saves me a massive amount of time. And then when I'm done editing everything, then I'll play it back in normal speed. And then if you wanna go back, that's where the J keyboard shortcut comes in. So just click J and it goes back. Do you feel like you missed something and you wanted to go back a little bit, just click J a couple of times. It'll do the exact same thing as L. It's the same concept just in reverse. And then the keyboard shortcut K, which is in-between J and L. It's simply just stopped it. So if I'm clicking L to go forward a couple to speak, and I click Okay, it'll just pause it. It's essentially the same as the space bar. So that was the technique I wanted to show you before we start editing. Because if you guys see me start to speed up things or rewind things and you wanted to know how I did that? Well now let's move into the next video and let's actually get started with editing. 6. KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS: Okay, the next thing I want to do before we go in and actually get into the editing part is I want to show you something called keyboard shortcuts. This is really important because it's going to save you a lot of time in the long run. So first of all, what are keyboard shortcuts? Essentially, it's a combination of keys on your keyboard where when you click them, it creates a shortcut. For example, instead of coming over here to this area right here, this drop-down and then coming and clicking the blade tool and then going and clicking on it to cut your footage. And half. What you can do is you could just click the keyboard shortcut B on your keyboard and it activates it. That's a keyboard shortcut. You've ever watched YouTube, you might know that spacebar is a keyboard shortcut to pause and play your video. Now, we know what keyboard shortcuts are in Final Cut Pro, there are a lot of different keyboard shortcuts. If you come up to Final Cut Pro and then you go down to commands and click on Customize. Then you'll have all the keyboard shortcuts pop-up. So this is the keyboard shortcuts come with Final Cut Pro. I recommend, I recommend you go through and read through some of these because I'm keeping the same keyboard shortcut. So all the keyboard shortcuts I'm using are the default Final Cut Pro keyboard shortcuts. But just to go over a few really quickly, some that will help you. First, I'm going to highlight all the footage, drag and drop it into the timeline. And I am going to just turn down the volume. And I'm going to show you a couple of keyboard shortcuts. So the first one is obviously spacebar to play and pause. However, if you come over and click the keyboard shortcut L, it will speed through your footage faster. And if you click it again, it'll go even faster. So that's a way to save a lot of time editing. If it's a long talking head video, you could just speed through it like that. Click pastas stop. Another one, as I just said, is be to activate the blade tool. Cut in half, cut in half, cut in half. And then to get back to your cursor, you click a because Final Cut Pro is a magnetic timeline, meaning that if I delete this, this clip and this clip will automatically connect. Whereas other editing softwares, if I deleted this, this footage would stay here and there would be an empty space in the middle. For example, pretend I just deleted it, it would be a black empty space in-between them. So how can you get rid of that? You can't really get rid of it. But what you can do is you can backspace a certain part. You can click the keyboard shortcut P for position, and you can drag. And then it will create a blank space in-between. So if you look through it and then it goes blank space, we're gonna be covering probably 30 if not more, keyboard shortcuts throughout this course. But those are the basic ones that we'll start using right now to edit with. So make sure you go definitely do your homework and study through the keyboard shortcuts. This video, it'd be two hours long as we went through all the keyboard shortcuts, I just wanted to give you the essentials. Essentials. In the next video, we will start actually editing. 7. CUTTING A ROLL: So in this video, we're going to be actually be going through and cutting up the main video or the a role. And this video is really good for you to follow along and just kinda more so learn the principles of what I'm doing because we're gonna be going through and showing you the obvious places of where to cut your footage, but also how to make those cuts kinda like transition seamlessly together so they don't feel like very harsh jump cuts. So we're gonna go through this entire video together and we're just going to start cutting up the footage. So let's begin. We're going to bring our playhead to the beginning where the audio starts. We're going to press play and just listen through and see where we need to start cutting. We can skip ahead a little bit. So the reason I'm skipping ahead and I'm not worried about missing anything is because I'm paying attention to the waveforms. If you look at the waveforms here, you can tell that obviously nothing's happening. But you can tell I start talking right here, so let's just start it right here. Where it be. Great. So that was a good intro. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to click B, the shortcut, keyboard, shortcut B. And I'm just going to come, I'm going to zoom into the timeline a little bit and just click right here. So that way, right when the video starts, it starts right with the audio and it doesn't bore the viewer. So we're gonna do is just highlight everything before that and delete it. And now we're going to start from the beginning. And thank you for sitting incident aware. Okay, So I messed up right when I said editing job. So we're gonna go ahead and listen back a little bit. Before that point, we're going to zoom into our timeline a little bit. And then we're going to find that point where I messed up and cut it right there. So many opportunities however, you can get hold while I just quickly want to see where I started up again over here, however you want. So I started the sentence over with however, so I'm going to find however, when I said however over here and I'm going to start the cut there, however. Okay, So it was right here I said however. So I'm just going to click B to get the blade tool. I'm going to click that on my audio and on my video. And I'm gonna come over here to where I start again and cut that. And I'm going to highlight everything in between. And I'm going to hit Backspace to delete it. Now, I think those will probably come together pretty good. However, you can get a one endings off of work. But most of the time either be really difficult to deal with and even worse than that, most of them. So there I did the exact same thing I did before where I kind of messed up and standard over my words. So let's go ahead and cut two. Let's first see where I start the sentence off again. And even worse than that, even worse than that. So let's see where I said that before. Perfect. So let's cut right before I said that. So right here, let's cut the audio and the video. And let's come over here to where this new wave form starts. And let's get as close as we can without cutting the waveform. And let's cut the audio, the video. Let's highlight everything in between and click Backspace to delete. Then let's play it back and see how it cuts together really new clients. And even worse. So actually, there's a little bit of a pause here for a moment that's unnecessary. So what I wanna do is I want to cut this excess little space here. So I cut it right here. And I'm just going to delete that in-between. And I think that this should now flow together a little bit better and even worse than that, most worthy anything for your work. So I'm gonna get rid of this little empty space here when I, when I was taking a breath. Because I want to try to keep this as fast moving in engaging as I can, because all I'm doing is talking to the camera. So the more empty space I can take away from the video, the better. So we're, the audio waveforms are just flat. I'm going to just delete all of that. And I'm going to take the video part of that and I'm just going to completely delete that. And let's see what we got. Inverse. Inverse is, so it's a little bit better for polio. I'm just going to come up here to the right with this little film icon again, instead of dragging this bar up and down this time I'm going to come right here. And I'm going to click this. And actually I'm going to choose this one. And all that's going to do is make the audio more noticeable. So I can kinda see the audio more because as you can tell a lot of the editing of the a role, it really depends on the audio waveforms to get the cut really clean and nice. So I want to see the waveform a little bit better. So let's just continue. Okay, So I messed up there. Let's see where I started up again. I would give up worker four-star rating. So let's see where I said that before I messed up. Sorry. Okay. So I started at right here, so I'm going to cut, I'm going to zoom in a little bit and I'm going to cut right before I said that because I said it again here. I'm going to cut right before I say it again here. And I'm gonna delete the in-between space by highlighting it and clicking backspace. And now I'm getting a four star rating would see either the reason being is it's really easy to game lines which is huge from and you didn't really start looking into work with the UN. Okay, So I have a spot here where I said video editing. I want to get rid of that. So let's see if we can do that. Okay, so this big waveform right here is the waveform where I'm saying. So there is some empty space right here. Let's cut right there, and then let's bring it in or right about here and cut that. And then let's make sure we're cutting the video with the audio so the audio stays aligned with the video. Highlight, delete, and let's play it back and see what that sounds like. Okay, so I said in with video editing that didn't make sense. So let's delete the part where I say in. And then let's play that back and see how that feels. Door with the UN to a little bit better. The cut right there is a little bit harsh, but we'll get to that a little bit later right now. We just want to put everything together more or less seamless way. With the UN report, we might be able to super, super annoying. Okay, so I stopped right there. Great. So we're gonna cut right there. And then we're going to cut where the waveform starts back up again right here. And then we're just going to select Backspace to delete and playing. Another thing, that fiber again, Word where you can reach out to her. Okay. So I messed up through that. I didn't like her work to stop. I mean, by k. So we're going to see where I first messed up when I said I give fibers. So for that, I named fiber for that. So I say for that right there and I pause it in-between the two waveforms, I'm going to cut it and I'm going to find the spot where I said it good for him to start. Okay. Right there. So I'm gonna cut that same thing as we've been doing backspace. And let's play that together. For that. Germinating and not cut was super. That just happened to be just a really good seamless cut. So I'm going to click the keyboard shortcut L just to speed through it a little bit faster. You want to go into it. Okay, So make sure you put remote and then cut. Okay, so I'm gonna go forward a little bit and then I'm going to click B for my blade tool. I'm going to cut it. And then I'm going to come back to where the audio form starts up again over here. And I'm going to cut that and I'm going to highlight everything in between Backspace to delete as we've been doing. And that cuts should come together pretty well. Remote. You actually want to go into the office. Okay. So it was a little bit of a jarring cut. And if you zoom in, you can see why. It's because it flatlines right here and then it goes up. So I'm just going to cut it a little bit closer to the waveform. And then I'm going to line that back up and let's see how that comes. You actually want to go a little bit better, but it's still a little bit of a harsh cut, but we'll deal with that later. Let's just first a line all the clips together in nature. So basically, you might have a really good, more real at least happy holidays are really good for underneath your doctor, hasn't Henry? You have a really good, decent amount of years underneath your belt as an accurate. Okay, so I'm going to try to make this cut so I say a decent amount as an editor. And then what I'm trying to say ends right here and starts over here. So I'm going to cut everything in between and try to make this as clean cut as possible, just as we've been doing. Let's see what that is. So I say as an editor, but when this cut doesn't let me, I finished my art, so I'm just going to zoom in. And if you see my mouse tool, when I go to the end of the audio wave form, it turns into this. And you can click and drag your audio waveform a little bit longer. And then you could do the same thing with your video clip. And when we put that together, it should be a little bit more seamless. So let's just do that. You'll have a really good portfolio. Let's make this a little bit longer. And let's make this one a little bit shorter. Okay, So next we're going to get more and more volume. Okay, so I see what's happening here. So the issue that's happening here is the editor went a little bit too long now, so now let's shorten that. Yes. So just to make this a little bit more seamless, what I'm gonna do is I'm going to hover over eight here and where that little circle is, I'm going to just drag, click and drag it in a little bit to the left. And I'm going to do the same thing over here. That does is that just fade the audio in and out a little bit. So it's less harsh of an audio cut. You have a really good portfolio. So I'm going to cut it here because I messed up here again. And I said it right here. Okay, So actually the take I wanted starts right here. So I'm gonna delete this in-between. And yeah, great. So I'm going to cut this started back up here, just that cut that flatline audio waveform. And let's plug in our numbers. Okay, So I'm going to cut here. And I'm going to cut over here with the audio waveform starts again with delete everything in between and press play here. Perfect. Okay, So I know I said, I mean, right here and right here. So this is where I messed up, cut it right where that is. And I'm going to cut it where the waveform starts again. And just as we've been doing over and over, we've been Backspace to delete that in-between and pressing play to see how that looks. So how exactly can you do it? So I, I spent too long waiting to say what I wanted to say here. So I'm going to cut the part out where I say so. And let's see what that looks like. How exactly can you do this? Well, let me just open up Sorry. Megan, list of observing it. Okay. And I know I'm going to cut there because I heard the mistake and I'm going to start back over here, highlight Backspace to delete these and make a list. Somewhere around here. Where from these Uber's drivers, 19 classes, virus and it wasn't listed name. And then say, you know, I love and I feel really don't want to cut here. And I say, Okay. Okay, So I'm going to cut right here because I repeat myself on the new line. Okay? So I clearly mess up there. So I'm going to cut how we've been cutting the same principle or technique and then click Play. Okay, so I paused a lot in-between this. So I'm just going to cut that pause out alone and always. Okay, so I'm gonna cut there. And I'm going to start back with the audio waveform starts up again over here. Okay, so I'm going to cut this pause here where I just looked at camera not knowing what to say. And let's continue to find ways the agreement is video work. So any perfect, so I'm gonna cut here. Okay, so I say let me know again right here. So I'm going to cut there. And I'm really just paying attention to the waveforms of where to cut it like so I know where to cut accurately as I've been showing you throughout this whole video. Perfect. And I'm going to cut there. And that's the whole video. I'm going to click Shift Z to zoom out to my entire timeline. And now we have the entire video, the full five-minutes and 53 seconds cut up. So our April and officially cut, It's really simple, but it's just good to watch and just learn how to do it for your videos. But basically, essentially all it is is just finding the empty spaces that are boring or unnecessary and just cutting the fat off your video to make it a nice quick edit. It's engaging and that's easy for the viewer to understand. 8. CUTTING B ROLL: We're just flying through this course. Now we are already on the part where we're gonna be adding B-roll, which is really like the secret sauce YouTube videos. It's ****** up your video and brings your videos so much more to life as you can see right now we have almost a six-minute video. That's pretty boring. It's just me delivering information. Once we start, like spicing up our videos with the following lessons, starting with this one here, B-roll, you'll see what a massive difference that this makes an each thing that we do going forward makes to the video process. So the first thing we're gonna do is add our voice-over because the main parts, the main B-roll section of this video, I pre-plan this video in a software called notion where I script on my YouTube videos. But I planned out for there to be about like a 30-second voiceover before the video actually starts. And while that VoiceOver is playing, I was going to have B-roll over the top of it. But obviously, if you guys have gotten this far, you've downloaded the footage. So we're gonna do is we're going to drag and drop our voice-over clip in front of our footage. And what we're gonna do is just cut this really, really quickly. So let's just go through here and cut out the mistakes. Here I am pulling in all night. You're handling your I am pulling in Almere sometimes editing videos. Here, I am pulling in another room. Okay, so I'm just going to delete everything before that. Here I am pulling and nocturia. Very tiring process, healing. Who never ever ever finish that one? Okay. There's some empty space, so let's cut that is digital. And again, and then we'll just cut that into space out. Chapter one video. That is one of the lucky ones, searching for work or trying your best to find out. Your best is searching for work. So I'm going to cut it right there and I'm going to start it back up right here and cut in-between exactly what we've been doing in the last lesson through the surgery, we're trying your best and find out who out there is hiring for editors. And once you, how can you be one of the editor or editors? Okay, let's just cut the fat off of this just to make it a little bit quicker. Editors. And once you, how can you be one of the editors? Keg cut. And once you, how can you be the one to get hired? Okay, that was better. So let's take that take you, how can you be the one to get? And let's delete what's after that. And let's see what's before that. Now let's listen back at the voiceover, just make sure it makes sense. And we didn't cut anything we didn't want. Ended after edit. Sometimes get very tiring process where you feel you will never, ever, ever finish down one video. That is one of the ones searching for your best and find out who out there is hiring for editors. And once you, how can you be the one to get higher? Hey guys. Thank you. Perfect. So now that we've got our voice-over nice and edited, What we're gonna do is we're going to start adding B-roll, which is the main point of this video. So let's go up to under our master been that we created in the beginning of this course. Let's go down to our subfolder B-roll. And in here we have all of our B-roll. So what I did is I made a shot list before. Just, I usually look into shot lists and my YouTube scripts that I make while I'm editing the video. So I kinda know in which order that goes. But since you do not have the shot list and script, we're going to not be using it and we're just going to be figuring out which one would go back. Let's listen to the voice over just the first couple of seconds. Perfect. Let's see if there's anything that fits for that here I am pulling in another all-nighters. No. Maybe you want to meet editing. Here we go. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to use this clip. I want to use a piece of this clip, so we're gonna do, and I haven't taught you this part yet, is if you highlight any of these clips here and you click Play, you can sift through and see which part of the clip you want. And if I wanted to start this clip right here, I would pause it and click I keyboard shortcut I for an endpoint, press Play again. And if I want to stop the clip here, I would click O for out point, and then I just drag and drop that piece. And now I have the piece I want. Instead of, instead of ending in the timeline, I can just edit it up here. Now, if you don't have this layout, all you need do is come here. It might look like this. Just click that button right here, and it will switch off in-between the two. I personally like the icon view or the thumbnail view. Right here, this little film icon, you can adjust how big or how small you want these icons to be viewed. So I definitely want this clip here, but I also want this one. So let's sift through this. Okay, So 12, maybe few seconds. So I'm going to drag and drop that in. And let's see, here I am getting that. Okay. So I only want that for you, right? Yeah. Like literally two seconds. Then I want it to cut. Ended after sometime. You get a very perfect so then I'm going to stop it right there. Here I am pulling in Netherlands. And sometimes actually I'm going to cut it right there. Okay, and then now let's listen to the rest of the voice-over and see which B-roll go best in very tiring process where you feeling. Okay, So let's do, yeah, let's use this clip here. This is cool. Okay, so let's sit through here. So let's stop here and click on our keyboards for an end point. And stop it and click O for out point. And now we have a nice short clip to go in-between here. And let's see what that looks like. Sometimes very tiring process where you feel it, it will never perfect. You know what, Actually there's one of these sleeping here. So let's I for in, O for out point. Just a really quick like 1 second clip. And let's put that in-between this and let's see what that looks like. Sometimes be a very tiring process where you feeling will never ever, ever finish down. Okay, so I don't like the way this cut from this clip since it's the same angle. So let's put a clip in-between here. Let's put a clip at the timeline. So maybe, maybe this one right here. So let's end point and out point, just a super quick one. And let's put it in-between those two. Just drag and drop it onto our timeline. And let's get this. Perfect. So now that's in our timeline and now let's play it through and see here I am pulling in. Ended after sometime very tiring process where you feeling never ever, ever finish that one video. That is perfect. That is, if you want to go on one of the ones searching for work, chai your back. Let's extend this a little bit. That is one of the lucky ones. Okay. Well, what if one of the ones searching for work, right. Okay. So I recorded some shots of actually, I really like this shot. Let's add this shot in. And let's just add like 1 second of it into here. So I want to put this right there. Never ever ever finish that one. Never ever ever finish that one video. That is did you want a one-on-one surgery board? Okay. So but what if you're wondering when searching for work? So searching for work, I remember recording a video about me searching on Google. How to get hired as an editor. Wherever that is right here, it should be. Perfect. It's right here. So let's click Play. So okay, so important and how to get hired as an editor and outpoint, perfect. And let's put that here. And let's just really quickly, let's speed it up a little bit because it's too long, but how do we speed it up? Well, just make sure that clip is highlighted. Come to this like futuristic looking clock time option. Click the drop-down, click fast, and let's times it by two. And it just sped up by two. It's literally that easy Final Cut is so easy to use. So now that we sped that up, Let's play it back. One of the ones searching for work, try your best. Okay, so it's still too long. But because final cause, very intuitive. What we're gonna do is you see this line right here. If you hover over it, you can drag it out to slow it down. You can drag it into make it faster. So we're going to make it faster because I want it to line up with this right here. One of the ones searching for work, try your best and perfect. So your best to find out who out there is hiring for editors. Okay, so let's see what clip we can use for that. Who out there is hiring editors. And once you, once again, trying your best to find out. And then after sometime in having videos and get very tired, you know what, instead of this, what if we do the head banging on the table? That might be kinda funny. So let's see if that would be funnier. Very tiring process. Here I am pulling in Netherlands, ended after sometime in editing and get very tiring process where you feel like you never, ever, ever sometimes get very tiring process where you feeling never ever Finish now, one of the ones that are doing the work, trying your best to find it. Okay, So I actually liked the hitting that on the table better. It's funnier. I just saw it over here in the media ban area. So I'm just going to use that instead. So I'm gonna delete that and use that one instead. Okay, so let's get back to the task at hand. Your best to find out who out there is hiring for editors. Great, so let's go back to where I'm actually looking at editing gigs, which is right here. So an endpoint and perfect right there. Okay, So I'm going to drop that in. It's a little bit long, so we're gonna do it again quickly as a challenge. I want you to pause this video right now and try to speed this clip up how you want it sped up to the length you want it. So pause this video now and do it. So how did that go? Did you figure it out? If not, all you need to do is highlight the clip as we, as we previously did it come to this clock icon in the drop-down arrow, click fast and to access speed, Let's drag it to cover this whole clip. So let's do this. One. Surgeon can work, try your best to find out who they're hiring for editors. And most of you, once again, once you do, how can you be the one to get hired? Okay. I'm not going to use that. Oh, there. I think I filled me actually submitting a proposal. So let's endpoint and out point Perfect, That was a perfect job for that segment of 0. Perfect. So we're going to expand that to be this whole clip, and let's play that back. And once you, once again, thank you for tuning in to another video where you guys are. Perfect. There's any where. So that was the B-roll. What I'm gonna do now is I know we're going to, later on we're going to add some stuff over the a roll over this area to spice that up a little bit. And while we're doing that, there might be spots in the April that I actually want to put some of those B-roll clips over just to add it a little bit more spice and energy to the video. But for now the intro and the main B-roll that I wanted for this video is edited and it's at the beginning of the video. And it's looking nice. It's looking good. I think we're pretty much ready to move on. 9. BASIC TITLES: Alright, so we have our B-roll and we have our aryl pretty much edited. So like the skeleton of the video is pretty much done. Now what I wanna do is go through the video and figure out where it needs titles. So this is going to be where we go through it and add something called just basic titles. And they make a huge difference to the video. In this video, I made point, so I've structured that on purpose. So we're gonna do is we're gonna go through each.54321 and we're going to add a title for each one of them. So let's start at the beginning. Thank you for helping getting hired. I'm sorry. With an English class or a one-star AND coming on in number five is okay, So this is my first. Now I'm not going to put the title yet. What I'm gonna do is add something called a marker. Now, what you need to do is literally click the keyboard shortcut M on your keyboard. And it creates a marker. And as you can see, it was created right here, but my clips, so I'm gonna go through and create a marker for each point. So that way it's gonna be easy for me to identify those points so I don't have to listen through the whole video the next time I do it. However, you are in a horse. So moving on to number four. Okay, so I just added a marker moving on number four, there's Point number two. And then negative five. I didn't want her to start meeting or getting a job as an editor. So coming into number, boom, Let's put our third marker. You actually want to go into the office and work. You'll have a really good portfolio. But they're more than willing to get me into. Or number two, which is perfect at our marker or quality job. She asked me who live in the network. Now, last and our final marker. So there we go. We have our five markers, and now we have identified with markers exactly where we need to add our title for now. Let's move on here. So let's go ahead and add our first basic title. So let's go to our first marker, which is where he made our first. And let's just listen back and see what we say. So coming up in number five is applying to the freelancer on Upwork. Okay, so upward, so number five, upwards, what we're gonna do is come over here to our titles and generators. It's that big T over here. And when you click this, it will take you to a new page here. Now, what you see on my final Cut Pro is not what you will have. I have thousands of plugins. And what plugins are third party effects and titles and things that I've bought an accumulated over years of editing. So you will not have this, you'll have what? Probably just the basic titles that come with Final Cut Pro, which is fine because that's what I'm going to be using with this course. I'm going to assume nobody has any plugins as if you just bought Final Cut Pro for the first time. So this can be applicable to everybody. Just disregard all the plugins that you see are all of these effects that you see. That what I'm gonna do is just come up here to the search bar and type in basic title. And basic title comes with Final Cut Pro. I'm going to highlight it and drag it onto my point. And I'm just going to time it perfectly so I'm going to play through and see where I want the title to stop. And n in number five is applied to the three minutes right now. Okay, so where I see coming is where I'm gonna start the title. Freelancer on. Perfect. So that's gonna be the length of the title. So now I'm going to highlight the title. Now I'm gonna come over here to the top right and click this like lined paper icon. And this is where you can change all of your texts. So I'm going to backspace and I'm going to put, I'm going to put number five. And then what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna put number five and I'm gonna make the Upwork separately. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to come back down here. I'm going to highlight it. I'm going to click Option and I'm going to drag and drop. So I'm going to hold Option. I'm going to click on it and I'm going to drag and drop. And what that will do is create another title, basically copy and paste. Now what I'm gonna do to this second title is I'm gonna change this to upward. And now with Upwork one, I'm gonna come over here to this film icon. And here's where you could change the position and scale. So scale, so I'm just going to drag it down. Now. It looks really ugly right now. So coming up in number five is applying a freelancer on Upwork. Not perfect, but we're going to decorate it up. So first of all, this font is just terrible. So let's go to number five. Let's go back to this icon right here, this line paper icon to change the texts. And I really like using Helvetica nail or however you pronounce it. I like using bold. And then what I'm gonna do is do the exact same thing for upwards. I'm going to click upward. I'm going to go over here to the font. We're going to click on this, go to Helvetica nail or whatever. How do you pronounce it? And then go over to bold. Now we have the font that looks a little bit better. Now, we're going to want to do is we're going to want to line up the tax, right? So it looks aesthetically pleasing and doesn't throw people off. So we're going to do is come to this drop-down and we're going to click Show horizon. And what that's gonna do is bring up this cross horizon, which helps you kind of a size up their stuff. So I want to make this bigger and I want to make it proportional and just kinda laid out in a proper way. So I'm going to come to the number five. And I'm going to bring this scale up to what feels like maybe a 141. So let's do 140. I like the size of that. And then let's go into this. Let's go to this film icon just to move the position. Perfect. I think that's good. Now let's go to Upwork, and let's do the exact same thing. So scale 140. So let's bring this scale up. Why don't we do the opposite actually, because while I'm doing this, I feel like maybe the number five, would it be better small, and Upwork would be big. So let's do that. Let's bring the number five down and Upwork. Let's bring upward down a little bit. Let's bring upward up a little bit. Kind of like in-between the bottom and center. And then let's bring number five up a little bit too. And let's just go to this drop down under View. Click Show horizon to get rid of that. And number five is applying the agreement. Cool. We're going to do something that I like to do. There's two things I like to do. I like to either blur out the background when the text comes up or I like to just put a solid color behind it. The easiest way to do this is to come to your titles and generators where we are. And go to your generators and come to custom and just drag and drop it down here and put it underneath your text. And now we have our font on a background. If you want to change the color of the background, you could just come over to this icon right here and just change the color to whatever you want to change it to. Now, in this case, I'm not going to put a background. I just wanted to show you how you can. In this case, I'm going to blur the background of my current image. So there's two ways of doing this. One involves a plug-in, so we're not going to be doing that, but you put something called an adjustment layer over your footage. And the second way involves keyframing, which is a little bit complicated, but that's what we're going to have to do since we're not using any plug-ins. So what we're gonna do now is we're going to blur out the background because that's what I prefer. We're going to click B for the blade tool and we're going to cut where the title starts and we're going to cut the clip where the title ends. In this in-between here you're going to highlight, you're going to come over here to this icon, which is the effects icon. And you're going to search for Guassian blur, Gaussian blur right here. So here we're going to drag and drop Gausian onto that clip and it blurs out our footage. So now you have a one-star AND OR so coming up in number five is applying. Now, I don't like the aggressive change. This is an easy way of doing this and it still looks good. But I like to gradually blur my footage into the title, but it's a little bit more complicated, so just bear with me. So let's Command Z to go back. Command Z, command Z. So now we go back. So now we're gonna do is drop the Guassian blur in your footage. But now the whole thing is going to be blurred. So we have to do is create keyframes. We're gonna go a little before the title, right there, and we're gonna go over to Gausian. We're gonna go to a mount, come to 0. And then once you have 0, come and click this little icon over here, which creates your first keyframe. And then drag your play head to the beginning of the title and come over here and drag your Gaussian blur backup to however blurry you want it. And then press play number five is applying these agreements are. And then when you get to enter your title, coming, click the keyframe icon one more time. And then just let it play for two or three more seconds and I'll work. Perfect. So that was like two seconds. And now we're gonna do is we're going to just drag this back to 0 and then watch what happens. Five-star rating would be for a one, sorry. Or so. Coming up in number five is applying the agreements are on an upward. Now I work as a freelancer. That way it gradually comes in and out. But what we can do, because that took a little bit too long, is highlight your clip. Right-click it, click, Show video animation. Over here you have the keyframes that you set. So all we're gonna do is we're going to zoom in and we're going to bring these a little bit closer together so that the fade-in is a little bit faster. Now watch what happens. Pay attention to the keyframes in the video. Number five is applied to the freelancer on Upwork work. Perfect, So I think that looks great. We could just x that video animation. Now, you have successfully created your own motion graphic title with a basic title, no plug-ins. And just the effects that come with Final Cut Pro and a little bit keyframing. It sounds pretty technical and hard, but once you do it, you realize it's pretty easy. I think Upwork, seeing color. If we go to Google and we search Upwork, we have a green kinda palette color right here. It's like a dark green. So we're gonna do is we're gonna make our texts that color is so highlight Upwork. Let's go to this line paper icon. Come down to face, quick, show color. And let's make it that same kind of dark green that we saw. Like around I like that right there. Perfect. So now that kind of pops a little bit more. Coming up in number five is applying the agreement. And also I don't like are aligning. So let's go back to View. Let's go back to show horizon, and let's bring up work up. Let's click our film icon. And let's bring the position up just straight to the middle. And then let's go to number five. And let's make this a lot smaller. And let's bring this up and see what this looks like. So let's get rid of our horizons and read it. With a five-star rating would be a mass or a one-star AND OR so coming up in number five is applying the pigments are great. So what we're gonna do is we're going to highlight these. We're going to hold down the option key and drag and drop it. And we are going to do this to save us some time and work and to keep everything consistent. So we're gonna do that for each of these titles. We're going to highlight, hold down Option, drag and drop. Highlight, option drag and drop. And we're gonna do that for the last one. So now we have titles for each one. Now all we're going to have to do is keyframe the blur and change the color and the text a little bit. So let's go to our second number four within the fiber. Now I personally hate. Okay, so let's just adjust this a little bit. So moving on to number four, which can lead to bias. Now, here's the thing is fiber also uses a green palette, but it's a little bit brighter green. So let's go to Fiverr. So let's just scroll down to face, show color. And let's just make this brighter that way it kinda stands out a little bit from the Upwork title. And now all we need to do with this title is just animate the blur. So we come back to our Effects tab, drag and drop the Gaussian blur onto the clip. And then we do the keyframe again. So if you were confused that first-time tried to pay attention this time. If you feel like you've got it, go ahead and pause the video. And as a challenge, tried to key-frame your own blur, fade in and fade out as we did before. Okay, So hopefully that went well. And if you're a little bit confused or didn't work out, then just follow these steps again. So we're gonna do is we're going to go just like a second or two before the title comes up. We're going to come to the Gausian. We're going to bring the amount all the way down to 0. Step two is we're going to click the keyframe, little diamond. We're going to turn that on. Then we're gonna move the playhead to right where the title starts. And then we're going to bring the blurred backup to its original blur amount. Then we're going to come all the way to the end of the title. And we're going to set the keyframe again. And then go back a second, go forward a second. And then we're going to bring this back down to 0. And then if you right-click and click Show video animation, it will show you the keyframes so you can see the work you just did. So we set the keyframe at 0 and then the keyframe right when the title comes up, has full blurriness. And basically the exact same but in reverse order here. And then it looks like this video. And so moving on to number four, fiber. Now I personally made fiber again. Perfect, it looks great. Now all we need to do is change this to number four. So just, you can either double-click the text onscreen or you can come to the line paper icon and just click number four. So moving on to number four would be great. Now let's go to the next one, number three. Let's just adjust this. So coming into number three, okay, So this is gonna be LinkedIn. So let's. Change the texts. And if you will, as a challenge, if you want to do this whole process by yourself, go ahead, pause the video and do it now from the blur, the keyframing to the changing the text, the color, all of that. Go ahead and do that now. Otherwise you can follow along with me here. So we're gonna go ahead and we changed the text to LinkedIn. We're gonna go and change the number five to number three. And we're going to look up LinkedIn really quick just to kind of get a feel for their color palette. So dark blue, so they're using a dark blue. So let's go back to Final Cut Pro. Let's go back to Final Cut Pro, and let's click on LinkedIn, scroll down to face, show color. And let's go to that like dark blue. I think that, that looks good right there. Linkedin, perfect. Now we're gonna do is all we need to do is animate or keyframe the blurriness. So let's go into our Effects tab, go to Gaussian Blur, drag and drop it onto our clip. Let's go about a second or two before the texts comes on. Make sure you turn the amount to 0. Turn on the keyframe, go to the beginning of the text. Turn the blurriness backup. Go to the end of the text. Make sure you select the key frame again, and then goes second forward. And then turn the blurriness down and you have the animation company into number three. They may not have any spectators. However, Lindsay is really perfect. We only have two more to go. So let's just go through these very quickly. And the next one is going to be, Indeed, indeed has a blue color as well. So let's go to our text, change this to, indeed, we're gonna go down to face as we've been doing. Let's bring that too. Like brighter blue like this. And that's about the ending color. And then let's go over to our number five and change this to number two. I believe there's number two. Number two. Perfect. Now let's just do the blur. So go to our Effects tab, drag and drop the Gaussian blur in. Come a second or two before the text. Turn this down to 0. Turn this down to 0 keyframe, it moved to the beginning of the texts. Bring that blurriness up, come to the end. Make sure you turn that keyframe on again. Go a second forward and turn that blurriness down. Zoom or number two, which is indeed in a little bit more quality job posting and then upward. Perfect. Now let's go to our final one. Now, last but not least, number one is called an outbreak. Number one is called an opera. Now I miss topic called outreach. Obviously we have to make up a color because this isn't for a specific platform or anything. But I am really hinting towards reaching out to YouTubers and his point. So for this point, I'm going to use the YouTube Red. So let's change upward to YouTube. Let's scroll down to face show. And let's find a YouTube Red. I think that looks good Right there. Perfect. And then we have our number one. And now all we need to do is animated our blurriness. Now, last but not least, number one is hold on. Sorry, our texts is going to be cold outreach night you too. Cold out. Number one is cool. Perfect. So let's just bring that blur in. Same thing we've been doing come a little bit before the tax turned down the blur, keyframe it. And then come to the beginning of your title. Bring the blur up, come to your end your title. Activate the keyframe again and come to second forward and bring it down. There you go. Now, last but not least, number one is cool. So I mean like so there you guys go. We have just done a lot in this lesson. But you learn a fundamental of video editing, which is adding text and adding keyframes. And what's more impressive is you guys, is you guys have done this without any plugins, just completely by hand with the effects and the tools that comes with Final Cut Pro. So congratulations, Good job. Now hopefully your edits or edit starting to really come together. Now let's move on. 10. COLOR GRADING: Okay guys, so by now you should have a royal completely cut. You should have all the B-roll added to the footage and you should have all the five titles in the video. I do want to mention guys, the reason I'm giving you, giving you guys the assignment to go through the rest of the video and do this is because I want your creativity to shine. I don't want to restrict you creatively. We all have our own creative direction that we'd like to take. And I like to just show you how to do the things, how to edit a row, how to edit Bureau, how to add titles, things that I like to do, and then let you off the leash to go on your own and create what you want to create. That's the best way I think it is to learn. So that's why in each of these videos, I want to just show you how to do it and then leave you to go make your own creative decisions. However, in this video, we are going to be talking about color grading. In Final Cut Pro, you are going to have to get one plug-in order to color grade, and that's an adjustment layer. You don't have to do this. It just makes your life a lot easier. But here's the good news is this plug-ins completely free at motion via effects? I'm going to leave the link on the screen right now it's motion v effects.com. And I'm going to show you guys if you go to Google right now and just type in motion via effects, the store will come up, they have the world's best Final Cut Pro plugins. And I could just go ahead and in the search bar and type in adjustment layer. I'll just type in adjustment. Then the adjustment layers right here, and it's completely for free download it follow the steps and it will show you how to import the adjustment layer and the Final Cut Pro. So pause the video now, come to motion v effects download the free Adjustment Layer, and then come back to the video as soon as you're done. So now let's go back to Final Cut Pro. I'm assuming you've just downloaded the adjustment layer. Once you do it will be in here under your titles tab and M adjustment layer. So we're gonna go ahead and click that and we're going to drag and drop that onto our footage above are a roll. Okay, so the first thing we're gonna do is we're going to highlight the adjustment layer. Find a place that you want to color grade. I'll just that on there. Come over here to the color tab, the triangle. And the first thing we're gonna do is come over to curves. So we're going to come over to curves and we're going to create what's called an S curve where we're at this point right here, we're going to click and drag it down. And then we're going to come over here to the opposite point and drag it up to create a slight S. The next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna go to Color Wheels and we're going to bring some of the color back into the image. So we're gonna go to the global. We're going to bring up this saturation. We're going to leave the highlights, how they are, the shadows. We're going to bring these up, the saturation up. We're just bringing the color back into this image. Because this image is shot and S log, which basically the only reason someone would ever shoot in a log profile is to have more dynamic range because what it does is out of camera it creates is really desaturated look so that the highlights and the shadows are easy to bring back if you're not exposed correctly in camera. However, most of you will not be filming in a log profile, so you don't need to worry about that. But with this footage that I gave you in the resources, it is shot with S log footage. So I'm going to show you how to bring the colors back and then I'm going to show you guys how to add lots to your footage. So then we're gonna go over the highlights and we're going to add some more saturation here. I love how the colors are right now. So I'm going to come over here to the film icon. And I'm going to, here you can see all of the color curves and the color wheels adjustments that you made. But what we're gonna do is we're going to come over to Effects. We're going to type in custom LUT. Then we're going to drag and drop the customer onto our footage. And what I'm gonna do is I'm going to, in the resources section, you will have all the what's that I'm using in this video. All you're gonna do is you're going to click and you're going to go to the basic LUT. And then that's gonna be applied to the footage. And right here under mix, you can adjust how intense you want that lead to b. So I like to keep it at about 0.50. And then I really liked that. So if you uncheck that, you can see the before and the after. Super simple, all I do is I go, I adjust the colors a little bit in the curves and the wheels as I just showed you, just basically what looks, looks good. And then I go into and add a custom LUT and then I add this basic law unto all of my YouTube videos. Now, it is important to note that this isn't my color grading process. This is just the color grading process that I recommend for you as a beginner taking this course, just learning how to color grade. This is what I recommend because it's simple and it gets the job done. My color grading process is a lot more intense and professional and I use a lot of scopes and I pay attention to skin coloring. I might release a more advanced Final Cut Pro course on Skillshare. So safe, stay tuned for that. But as of now, this is really tailored for beginners, people who are just getting into Final Cut Pro or who are interested in editing Final Cut Pro for YouTube. So if that's you, which if you've made it this far in the course, it likely is, then this is the color grading process I recommend for you. So I'll see you guys in the next video. 11. ADDING MUSIC: Okay guys, so now we're talking about music. Now I highly recommend you sign up for a paid platform like art list or Epidemic Sound. They're the best music licensing platform or website out there. Right now, I'm gonna leave an affiliate link below to artless so you can get your first month for free if you want to go with them. It's great because you don't have to worry about any copyright claims. And also for YouTube, they're the best platform out there, hands down lot of top creators are using them. However, if you don't have the budget for that, you're just getting started and you want to know where do I get free sound effects? Where do we get free music? I'm going to show you how right now. So all you do is you go to your YouTube account, go to YouTube studio. Once that loads, you're going to come to the left here dashboard and you're going to click on Audio Library. And then right here you have free music and free sound effects. And guys, this is updated all the time and it's completely free. No copyright like This is amazing and a lot of people don't even know that this is here. So what you're gonna do now is you're going to the video that at least if you're editing with me, It's more of a talking head. Informative video. I'm teaching you guys how to get hired as an editor. So I don't want anything too crazy. So I'm gonna go through and I'm just going to see something that has kind of a calm vibe just to add some background music to. That is actually a pretty good sounding song, but it has a voice in it. I don't want any audio or any lyrical songs. Okay guys, I really liked this song, so I'm gonna use this. So all I'm gonna do is I'm gonna go over here to download. Then what's going to happen is it's going to download it and I'm going to go over to Final Cut Pro. First thing we're gonna do is come over here, double-click create new keyword, selection type in music. Then we're going to go ahead and drag and drop that music in there. Now what I'm gonna do is just drag and drop it like anything else into the timeline. I'm going to double-click, go to assign audio roles that go to music. And then turn it down to about negative 28 is usually what I do. And then you listen back and it makes it as a perfect background song. You guys, there you go, guys. That's how you put music. All you do is you kinda, you do what feels best for each video. It's different how you add music in, but that's the general idea of how to download and add music into Final Cut Pro. 12. ADDING SOUND EFFECTS: Now we're going gonna be talking about adding sound effects. Now, I deleted the music track just for this video, just because I want you to only hear the sound effects. And I'm going to show you a little trick, at least for YouTube videos, I literally only use one sound effect ever, depending on the client guys. Obviously you're going to want to add different sound effects for different scenarios. But the most common scenario, at least when it comes to sound effects, or when it comes to youtube, is a title sweeping in the screen and sweeping out like the one we created here. I'm applying. Now there should be a little sound or a whoosh sound right when that comes into the screen. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to in the resources section, add this sound effect for you to download. It's my favorite sound effect. I'm going to go to it. So I'm going to go into my hard drive and I'm going to go into my sound effects. And I am going to go to the, my favorite sound effect, which is this one. So I'm going to copy and I'm going to paste that into the sound effects folder, which you will have access to. And I'm going to move that into my master been, and now I have access to it. Now, the first thing I'm gonna do before I start adding the sound effect, I'm going to come over, I'm going to highlight the sound effect Double-click. I'm going to come to assign audio roles and I'm going to put it as an effect, a sound effect. What I'm gonna do is I'm also going to go to the end of this sound effect to about right here. And I'm going to click o for the out point. And now I'm going to drag and drop it to cancel. Let's really quick click on v to deactivate the sound effect. And let's just use our right and left arrows to move ahead and backwards. Frame by frame. Look at where the sound effects sweeps. And I think right there would be a good, good spot to add the sound effect. So where might the white line is right there? I want the middle or main part of this sound effect to happen. So I clicked V to reactivate it. And I'm going to line up the loudest part of the sound effect with that. And I'm going to play back and see what that sounds like. Number five. I think I'm going to add it a little bit earlier, so I'm going to drag it earlier a little bit. And I'm going to okay, that was the one end right there. So what I'm going to do is I'm gonna go and I'm going to just click Option and drag to duplicate the clip. And then I'm gonna put it right there and see how that sounds. I'm working as a freelance film. That's literally all it is with the sound effects guys. This sound effect is one of the best sound effects because whatever comes onto screen, you can use a sound effect for it. That's what I would use for most of my videos. So guys, go ahead and download that sound effect and start using it on your text or anything else on screen. You can use that sound effect. Now obviously if I'm saying something else or doing something and there needs to be other sound effects, which there will be very often. Then you could just go ahead and search those sound effects usually on somewhere like artless or Epidemic sound or where I showed you how to get free music on YouTube Studio. You can also find free sound effects in the same place. So go back to the how to add music in your video two for the tutorial of how to go find free music and free sound effects. But other than that, I highly recommend art list or a highly recommend Epidemic Sound for your sound effects and for your music. That is the absolute basics of sound effects. 13. EXPORTING: Okay guys, you have made it to the last video in this course, which is the exporting out your final video. So by now you've cut your a roll into a cohesive story. You've added your B-roll. You've imagined how you would want to watch this video as a viewer, and you've edited it accordingly. You've added your music, you've learned where to get free music, free sound effects, where the best paid plug-ins are, where the best paid music is. You've learned it all, you've learned keyframing, adding texts. The list goes on of what you've learned in this course. And I'm so, so happy that you guys have made it this far and I'm excited for you to see where you go and you're editing career or were you guys YouTubers? When you get to the top, just remember who taught you how to edit and Final Cut Pro. Now I'm going to show you how to export its final video that we've created. And I'm going to show you the best export settings for that. The first thing we're gonna do is when you finished with everything, you've finished color grading, adding sound effects, adding music, you've finished your final touches, whatever it is, you come up to the very, very top right of the screen, to the Share button. You click on that, come down to Export File default. You're going to click on that. And then you're going to come over to settings. You're gonna go to video and audio under format the Video Codec. You want H dot 264. Make sure you're, make sure you're checking this off as H dot 264. Obviously, if you're using Final Cut, you're on a Mac, so just keep it on QuickTime Player default. And then you click Next, and then you choose where you want to save the video too. So for the sake of this video, just save it to your desktop. You click Save. And then you come over to this top-left, right here, next to this key icon, you click on it and it will show you your video the percentage that in finishing the export or the sharing. And once that gets to 100, you have your final completed beautiful edit that you've done. Congratulations. Round of applause. I would love to hear your guys thoughts on this course. I would really appreciate a nice review if you feel this course is worth a nice review. But in the meantime, guys, I wish nothing but the best for you, and I am super excited to see where you guys go. So thank you so much for taking this course with me. Good luck.
