Today we are diving into the heart of the matter: the meaning of UI and UX and why they are so crucial for any business. UI, or User Interface, is the series of screens, pages, and visual elements—like buttons and icons that you use to interact with a device. It's like the steering wheel, pedals, and gearshift in a car. They allow you to drive the car, to interact with it. UX, or User Experience, on the other hand, is the overall experience you have when you are using or interacting with something. In our car analogy. It's not just about the steering wheel feels or how the gearshift operates. It's about the
whole experience of driving the car. Now, you might be wondering why are these so important for businesses? Firstly, a well-designed UI and UX can significantly enhance customer satisfaction. When users find a product easy to use, visually appealing, and intuitive, they are more likely to have a positive experience and develop a sense of trust and loyalty towards the brand. Secondly, a positive UX can lead to increased
customer retention and engagement. When users enjoy
using a product, they are more likely
to continue using it. recommend it to others. And even become brand advocates. Thirdly, investing in UI and UX design can result in higher

are going to dive deeper into what makes a good
and bad user experience. Let's start with good UX. A good user experience is
intuitive, efficient, and satisfying. It's like walking into a
will-organized store. where you can easily find what you need, the staff is helpful, and the checkout process is a breeze.
In the digital world, a good UX means that users can easily navigate your website or app, find the information they need, and complete their desired actions without frustration. For example, think about your favorite app or website. Chances are, it's easy to use. The design is pleasing and
you can accomplish what you want to do quickly and efficiently.
That's good UX. On the other hand, bad UX is like walking into a store that is disorganized where it's so hard to find what you are looking for. And the checkout process is confusing. In the digital world, bad UX
could mean a website or app that's difficult to navigate,
where information is hard to find, or where completing a task is frustrating or confusing. For example. have you ever visited a website where you couldn't find the information you needed or an app where the buttons didn't work as expected? That's bad UX.
The difference between good and bad UX can have a significant impact on a business's success. Good UX, can lead to higher user satisfaction, increased customer loyalty, and more conversions. Bad UX on the other hand, can lead to user frustration negative word-of-mouth, and lost sales. Now it's time to put your knowledge to the test and start evaluating the UX of the websites and apps that you use on a daily basis. Take some time to think about the apps or sites that you find it easy or difficult to use. What are the reasons behind your
positive or negative experience? Is it the layout, the navigation, the content, or something else entirely? Once you've identified some examples of good and bad UX, we encourage you to share

This role is pivotal in any business, and by the end of this video, you'll understand why. A UI/UX designer, in simple terms, is a solver. They take a user's needs plus the business goals and translate them into a seamless, intuitive, and enjoyable digital experience. Now, you might be wondering, what does that really mean? let's break it down.
As we discussed previously, UI stands for User Interface. This is what you see on your screen when you're using a digital product. It's the buttons you click, the text you read, the images you see. A UI designer is responsible for making these elements visually appealing
and easy to use. On the other hand, UX stands for User Experience. This is all about how you feel while using a digital product. Is it easy to navigate? Does it make sense? A UX designer ensures the overall experience is smooth and user-friendly. So, a UI/UX designer is like a bridge between the user and the digital product. They ensure that the product not only looks good but also works well. And why is this role so important in a business? Well, a well-designed product can increase user satisfaction, which in turn can lead to higher user engagement, more conversions, and ultimately, more revenue. In essence, a UI/UX designer plays a crucial role in the business's success. They ensure that the user's needs are met, and that the product is not only functional but also enjoyable to use. 5. The 10 Usability heuristic evaluation: Welcome back. Today we are diving into a key tool in the UI/UX design world the 10 Usability Heuristic Evaluation. This tool is our guiding star, Leaving, but I still

and efficient digital products. The 10 Usability Heuristic Evaluation is a set of principles developed by Jakob Nielsen. These principles are to ensure the usability of a product, be it a website, an app, or any other digital interface. Now, let's quickly list these 10 principles: 1. Visibility of system status 2. Match between system and the real world 3. User control and freedom 4. Consistency and standards 5. Error prevention 6. Recognition rather than recall 7. Flexibility and efficiency of use 8. Aesthetic and minimalist design 9. Help users with errors
10. Help and documentation Now, you might be wondering why is this important? Well, imagine you're in a new city, and you're trying to find a specific location.
You have two options: A map with clear directions or a blank piece of paper.
Which one would you choose? Obviously, the map, right? That's what the 10 Usability Heuristic Evaluation does. It provides a map to create a user-friendly design. The benefits of using this tool are immense. It helps us identify potential
problems in our design. , allowing us to fix them before they issues. It also helps us, understand users better, leading to a more user-centric design. So how do we use these principles? Well, when we're evaluating a product, we use these principles as a checklist. We ask ourselves, our design meet these criteria? Where does it fall short? How can we improve? In the upcoming videos, we'll be exploring each 10 principles in detail. We'll understand what they why they're, and how to apply them in our products. I've created a template file that you can use to fill in your observations about the products you're evaluating. The template file is available in the attachments. We encourage you to download it and use it to evaluate any App or Website or your choice, or any products you use on a daily basis. By doing so, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the 10 Usability Heuristic Evaluation principles and how they can be applied in practice. When using the template, take note of the areas where the product meets the criteria of each principle, as well as the areas where it falls short. This will help you identify potential problems and opportunities for improvement in your own design work. Remember, the goal of this exercise is
not just to evaluate existing products, but to apply the principles of the 10 Usability Heuristic Evaluation to your own design work. By doing so, you'll be able to create products that are more user-friendly,

6. Visibility of System Status: Hello again! Today, we're into the first principle of the 10 Usability Heuristic Evaluation Visibility of System Status. This principle is all about keeping users informed and in the loop.
Visibility of System Status means that the system should
always keep users informed about what's going, providing appropriate feedback within a reasonable time. This could be as simple as a loading spinner, a progress bar, or a confirmation message. Let's take an example from a well-known digital product - Google Drive. When you upload a file to Google Drive, you'll immediately see a progress bar. This bar shows you how much of the file has been uploaded and how much time is left. This is a perfect example of Visibility of System Status. Another example from Facebook. When you post a status or a photo, you see a message saying "Posting..." and then "Posted". This immediate feedback keeps you informed about the status of your action. So when you are designing or evaluating a product, ask yourself: Does the user know what's happening at? If not, how can you provide that information in a clear, concise, and timely manner? Remember, the purpose of learning about these usability heuristics is not just to gain knowledge but to apply them to real-world products. So, it's your turn now. Take this opportunity to evaluate the app or website that you have chosen before, based on the Visibility of System Status principle discussed in this video. 7. Match between system and the real world: Hello learners. Today we are in the second. principle of the 10 Usability Heuristic Evaluation 'Match between system and the real world'. This principle is all about making users feel
at home in your digital product. 'Match between system and the real world' means that the system should speak the users' language. It should use wards, phrases, and concepts familiar to the user, rather than system-oriented terms. The information should appear in a natural and logical order, mirroring the real world. Let's take an example from Amazon. When you shop on Amazon, you add items to your 'Cart'. This is a perfect example of matching the system to the real world. We all know what a cart is and what it's used for, so it's a concept that's easy for users to understand. Another example from Airbnb. When you book a stay on Airbnb, you 'Check in' and 'Check out', just like you would at a physical hotel. This terminology is familiar to users and makes the booking process feel more intuitive. So, when you're designing or evaluating a product, ask yourself: Does the system use language and concepts that are familiar to the user? Does it mirror the real world in a way that makes sense? Now, it's your turn to put this principle into practice. Go to the digital product that you have chosen before and evaluate it based on the 'Match between system and the real world' principle we've discussed today. By actively applying these principles to real digital products, you'll deepen your understanding of practical application. 8. User control and freedom: Welcome back. Today, we're into the third principle of the 10 Usability Heuristic Evaluation 'User control and freedom' This principle is all about empowering users within your digital product. 'User control and freedom' means that users often choose system functions by mistake and will need a clearly marked "emergency exit" to leave the unwanted state without having to go through an extended process. It's about giving users the freedom to navigate and control their actions within the system. Let's take an example from - Gmail. When you delete an email in Gmail, you're immediately given the option to 'Undo' that action. This gives users the freedom to correct mistakes instantly. Another example from Instagram. When you start to create a post but then decide you don't want to continue, you can simply click 'Discard'. This gives users the control to change their mind and easily exit the process. So, when you're designing or evaluating a product, ask yourself: Does the system provide users with the freedom to control their actions? Are there easy ways for users to correct mistakes or change their mind? 'Consistency and standards' means t hat users should not have to wonder whether different words, situations, or actions mean the same thing. Follow platform and industry conventions to make users feel comfortable and reduce the learning curve. Let's take an example from - Microsoft Office Suite. Whether you're in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, the 'Save' icon is always the same, and it's always located in the same place. This makes it easy for users to understand and use the product. Another example from YouTube. No matter what device you're using a smartphone, a tablet, or a computer the play, pause, and volume controls look the same and function the same way. This standardization creates a seamless user experience across different platforms. So, when you're designing or evaluating a product, ask yourself: Does the system maintain consistency and adhere to standards? Are the same symbols, language, and actions used throughout? This principle is all about designing systems that help users avoid making mistakes. 'Error prevention' means that even better than good error messages is a careful design which prevents a problem from occurring in the first place. It's about anticipating where users might falter and providing guidance to keep them on track. Let's take an example from - Twitter. When you're composing a tweet and you exceed the character limit, Twitter immediately shows a negative count and disables the 'Tweet' button. This prevents users from making the error of posting too long tweets. Another example is from Google Forms. When you're creating a form and forget to enter a question, Google Forms highlights the empty field and prompts you to enter a question before you can move on. This prevents the error of creating a form with an empty question. So, when you're designing or evaluating a product, ask yourself: Does the system help prevent errors? 'Recognition rather than recall' means that users should not have to remember information from one part of the interface to another. Information required to use the design should be visible or easily retrievable when needed. It's about reducing the user's memory load by making objects, actions, and options visible. Let's take an example from - Amazon. When you're browsing products, Amazon provides a 'Recently viewed' section. This allows users to easily recognize and recall the products they've previously looked at, without needing to remember the exact product details or search again. Another example from Google Maps. When you're searching for a location, Google Maps provides a list of recent searches. This allows users to easily recognize and recall their previous searches, without needing to remember the exact location or type it in again. So, when you're designing or evaluating a product, ask yourself: Does the system help users recognize, rather than recall, information? Are there features in place to reduce the user's memory load? This principle is all about catering to both inexperienced and experienced users. 'Flexibility and efficiency of use' means that your design should cater to both new and experienced users. This can be achieved by providing shortcuts or advanced functions for expert users, while keeping the interface simple and easy to understand for new users. Let's take an example from - Google Docs. For new users, functions like 'Bold', 'Italic', and 'Underline' are available in the toolbar. But for experienced users, keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, and Ctrl+U are available, making the process more efficient. Another example is from Gmail. For new users, there's a 'Compose' button to start a new email. But for experienced users, they can simply press 'C' on their keyboard to start composing a new email, making the process quicker and more efficient. So, when you're designing or evaluating a product, ask yourself: Does the system provide flexibility and efficiency of use? Are there features in place to cater to both new and experienced users? 'Aesthetic and minimalist design' means that interfaces should not contain information which is irrelevant or rarely needed. Every extra unit of information competes with the relevant units of information and diminishes their relative visibility. It's about reducing clutter and focusing on what's truly important. Let's take an example from - Uber : Uber is a ride-sharing platform that allows users to request rides from drivers. The platform's design is clean and simple, with a focus on the ride request form and driver details. The interface is free of unnecessary information or clutter, which allows users to quickly and easily request a ride. Another example is from Google's search page. The design is incredibly minimalist, with a focus on the search bar. This allows users to focus on their search, without being distracted by irrelevant information. So, when you're designing or evaluating a product, ask yourself: Does the system adhere to an aesthetic and minimalist design? Is the interface free of unnecessary information that could distract users? When evaluating got product. When evaluating a product for aesthetic and minimalist design, look for elements that are distracting or unnecessary, such as excessive text, images, or buttons. Consider removing any elements that do not contribute to the core functionality of the product, and focus on creating a clean and simple user interface that allows users to accomplish their tasks efficiently and effectively.
