My goal is to educate, empower and inspire you toward the achievement of those goals, whether it's in business, in your chosen profession or in your social life. So let's get started. I've included a worksheet below that I like you to download. This will give you a road map toward achieving your goals, I think. 2. GLS Custom Clothing 7 Essential Keys Video 1 Vision : Hi, Jerry Hampton here with GLS Custom clothing. Thank you for joining me for the first in a series of videos covering the essential keys to create, enhance or refine your personal style. Today we're going to discuss the first key, and that's vision. It's been say it where there is no vision, the people perish. Now this applies even to your style and image. You see having a vision of your desire. Look is where it all begins, serving as the foundation as you take steps toward your style goals. In my 20 plus years, working with men of all ages, professions, body types and ethnicities, I frequently come across men who want to create a unique style but don't have a clear vision of what that looks like for them. Most man simply follow what the latest trends are, as opposed to creating the style that best reflects their own uniqueness. While we all get our style cues from somewhere are someone, it's important that you establish your own unique identity. After all, style is purely a reflection of the way you see yourself. Now it's a known fact that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. That's why having a clear vision goes a long way and creating the style you want style is not about what brand you wear. It's about the brand you create. Let me say that again. Style is not about the brand you wear. It's about the brand you create. Yes, when it comes to your style, you are your own brand. You control how others interpret the message you send. Your personal brand determines what you wear, but it also influences the confidence you exude your grooming your posture as well as your conversation. The challenge most men have is how to create a personal style that balances what you wear with who you are and where you want to go, Whether it's in your career business, our social life. Your vision creates the road map toward achieving your style, goals and ultimately, your personal brand. Each day when you wake up and prepare for that business meeting social gathering, our job interview you should have a clear vision of the image you want the world to see Now . Here are a few tips that can help you create your own personal style. Number one. See yourself performing in that role that you're dressing for that presentation. Meeting interview number to select colors that complement your best assets, like your body type or skin tone Number three. Make sure what you're wearing fits properly. Clean lines, very meticulous. Number four. Make sure that you groom will are clean shaven, are trimmed, have a soft fragrance on a great smile, and number five have an air of confidence, not cockiness, just presence of us consents. You're going places. A clear vision is the first tool you need in order to create, enhance or refine your personal style. 3. GLS Custom Clothing 7 Essential Keys Style Factors Video 2: Hi. Welcome back, Gary Hampton. With GLS here, I hope you're enjoying the course. So far, the feedback that I'm getting so far has been very, very positive. So I thank you for that. Now that you understand the value of vision when it comes to creating your personal style, you'll become aware of what I call your style factors. So what a style factors style factors are those characteristics that you formulated over your lifetime that impact the style choices you make. You see our style originates from somewhere for me as a young man, because I never had a father in my life. I recall receiving my style cues from my Uncle Bob and my cousin Kidney. My Uncle Bob was in the noble profession of teaching, even though as a young man, I thought he was an attorney simply based on his presentation, my cousin always looked meticulously, well dressed like a model. I wanted to emulate that look. Ask yourself who were the influences of your current style, perhaps that your dad are an influential relative that planted that see, Perhaps it's an actor athlete that you like. Maybe you like keeping up with the latest trends. Either way, they're something or someone that impacted the way you present yourself. So ask yourself who in my past has influenced the way I think about my dressing style and how I project my image? What factors currently dictate the way I present myself? How comfortable in my stepping out of the box and exploring new looks? Here are some examples of what impacts your style and image Number one. Life experiences Your life experiences have a definite impact on the presentation you make each day. Number two. Career choice Although we no longer live in a world where you have to dress up, always remember, dressing well does not mean dressing up, However, in some professions, dressing up sends a message of trustworthiness and professionalism. Number three Education. Educating yourself about what it takes to create the style and image you want to project is essential to achieving your style and image goals, and that's what we're doing here. Number four body type. Your body type will determine in some respects how you project your style, for example, just because the trends today are slim fit. If your body type doesn't support you wearing slim fit and you have to adjust your style. Number five finances. Clearly, your finances have a direct impact when it comes to creating the style and image you want, but it doesn't have to. It's important that you research and identify sources that you can still create, enhance and refine your style without breaking the bank and number six upbringing. The way you were brought up has an immense impact on your style and image. As I mentioned earlier, my influences were my uncle and cousin. We all grew up with these ideals about style and image. I've had clients that will only wear white shirts with a suit, and it comes from what was talked to them as a child. Not that these ideals are wrong is just what you grew up thinking in summary. The reason this is important is because you can't know where you want to go without recognizing where you've been. Your style factors represent your style, history, what you grew up thinking. And even though it's changed somewhat over time, your style factors represent your unique foundation. 4. GLS Custom Clothing 7 Essential Keys Video 4 Measure of a Man: Hi, it's Gary Hampton with GLS here. Welcome back to my Siris on the seven essential keys to create, enhance or refine your personal style. So far, you've discovered the importance of having a clear vision of the image and style you'd like to attain. You've also taken a trip down memory lane to discover the reasons why you see style the way that you do together. These two discoveries have helped build your foundation for the rest of this course. Now we're going to discuss what I call the measure of a man. In other words, having the right fit. This one is especially a hot button issue for me. Far too often, I see men wearing their clothes and probably we've all heard the phrase When you feel good , you look good. But in this case, I like to change it to If it fits good, you look good. In the grand scheme of things. The way your clothes fit is one of the most important aspects to being well dressed. You see, you may have the nicest, most expensive suits, jackets, shirts and slacks. But if these items don't fit properly, avoids every other key to great personal style. So where are the key areas that determine a great fit? First, we're gonna talk about shoulders. Your shoulders represent your comfort zone. You see, when wearing a suit jacket, a sport coat depending on your body type and stature, you should be able to feel the jacket on your body. Okay, not restrictive, but fitting the jacket should contour to your body comfortably. See most jackets have a certain amount of padding in the shoulders, the reason being most of us men have some level of slope in our shoulders. The padding gives us room and lift our natural shoulder to create a sharper frame, so it's important to know your body type. And what best compliments is? Second is your chest again. Make sure the jacket tapers and complements your body. A good fit in the chest shouldn't result in tightness where you can't move comfortably. Third hips and thighs. Now it's imperative that you have room and comfort in these areas as you walk, sit and stand. Then lastly, wearing your pants properly on your waist gives a very, very clean look. Heaven, your clothes properly fit gives you confidence. Are some would say swagger it doesn't need to cost much to have your clothes fit, will. It simply just takes understanding. One of the keys to accomplish in this is building a relationship with an experience and qualified taylor. At any time you're Taylor will educate you and make sure you have the best possible fit for your body type. Don't be ashamed if your body isn't quite the way you'd like it. Going back to that first key have a clear vision of that style and image that you want. And if your body needs a little work, walk in that vision and let your image be your target. Go. Being well dressed isn't always about what brand you wear. Work clothes cost what the current fashion trends are. It's about how well your clothes fit. Styles come and go, but having a good fit stands the test of time. Now here are a few tips for finding the right Taylor and creating a solid relationship. Number one. The best tailors are usually the ones referred by satisfied client number to create trust by being authentic. Don't expect the tailor to perform miracles. If your body type doesn't coincide with the look you like except the Taylors. Advice and adjust accordingly. Number three. Be comfortable in your own skin. Confidence breeds style number four. Make sure the Taylor has a clear understanding of what your personal preferences are. Number five Always know your measurements. Waste neck and sleeve size jacket and suit size number six. Make sure the pricing is competitive with others in the area, and it meets your budget. So to summarize, it's imperative that you know you're fit requirements at the end of the day, even if you convince you allies the perfect styles and colors without the perfect fit, everything else is nullified. But in following the fit guidelines, you are the measure of a man. 5. GLS Custom Clothing 7 Essential Keys Material Man Video 3: Hi. Welcome back, Gary Hampton here with GLS Custom clothing. I hope you're getting a lot out of the course so far. Always feel free to make comments are as questions down below, and I'll try my best to respond now that you understand the value of a good fit, it's equally important that you become what I call a material man. So what is a material man? Being a material man means understanding and valuing the role of fabrics. Play in the overall quality, fit, cost, longevity and durability of your clothing. Whether it's a suit, a sport coat shirt, a tie, the fabric makeup represents the lifeblood of that item. In a suit, for instance, wool is always the best fabric choice. Why? Because wool is a natural fiber and natural fibres breathe well and insulate whether being worn in the heat of the summer or the cold of the winter. Will also keeps its shape better than man made. Fabrics such as polyester, rayon, viscose are popping when selecting a wool suit. There are very in grades a wool to consider. Among the most common are worsted wool and tropical wool. As you shop, you'll come across a variety of wool textures. You hear terms such as Super 102 Super 1 80 These terms are simply used to describe the wolves fiber diameter. The thing you want to keep in mind is the higher the thread count, the higher the great of wool, which ultimately defines how it drapes on your body, its longevity and how much you'll pay for it. Based on these criteria, you'll want to try on several pieces to feel the difference is, in the end, select what feels most comfortable, the most cost effective and has the best fit for your body type. Lastly, while a suit is being used as the primary example here, the principle of selecting fabric applies to all of your clothing purchases. The good news is that as technology today impacts much of our lifestyle, clothing is no different. Today's clothing is being created with your lifestyle and mind to absorb sweat, limit wrinkling and still look fashionable. So when shopping to either upgrade your wardrobe, our transition into a new look for special occasions, consider how you want the item to look on you. What do you want it to feel like, how long you want it to last? You will become a much better and more informed shopper, become a material man 6. GLS Custom Clothing 7 Essential Keys Rules of Arrangement Video 5: Hi. Welcome back. At this point, you've established a foundation that will help you create, enhance or refine your personal style. You understand that vision is where style begins, and you've also ventured into your past to discover what has influenced your current style . You have some working knowledge of what being a material man means, and now you know the value of a great fit. So now we're going to delve into from a clothing perspective what makes you stand out from the crowd. So the fifth principle and creating the look you won't is what I call the rules of arrangement. So what are the rules of arrangement? These air, the subtle nuances to dressing will, for example, what shirt and tie combination works best for the occasion? What type of pocket square looks right with this suit? Should my belt and shoes match among many, many others? You see, there was a time many years ago when there was a protocol toe. What do war and how you dressed? When the white button down shirt ruled the business world and a crisp navy suit was two standard business attire, those days are gone style today is more about expressing yourself and making a statement. Now, to further illustrate just how these subtle nuances can impact the look of your outfit and send a unique message, I'm going to use a traditional black suit and a couple of sport coats. The reason I chose sport coats is because they have more depth in the patterns and colors, and they tend to be more challenging to coordinate. Now, in this illustration, we're going to use a traditional black suit. The goal here is to draw your eye toward that subtle nuance that makes it pop. In this particular case, we're going to use the red accents to bring that out. As you can see in the Pocket Square and in the tie it gives color to the outfit in the background were using a blue pattern shirt. But the thing that I want to point out to you here is the item that stands out the most should be the time. That's what's going to draw you in now, in this next illustration, what I'm bringing out here are how to coordinate patterns. The theme for this particular outfit is blue, I believe is very important when you wake up in the morning or when you're getting ready to go to a meeting or an event are toe work that your outfit have a theme associated with it. In this particular case, the theme is blue. So we've got a planned jacket, Ah, striped shirt in a solid blue tie with an accent of a pocket square bringing in the blue as well. I could have chosen time with a little bit more pattern, but the concern there is you don't want too many patterns going on at one time. It kind of defeats the purpose, and it takes the focus off of the outfit completely. In this particular case, I wanted the outfit to be highlighted by the blue solid tie. So once again, the theme for this particular outfit are the accents blue. Now this last illustration. What I'm going to point out is how we can take items with multiple patterns and put them together to make one really, really nice outfit. In this particular case, we have a charcoal gray sport coat with small block patterns. You have a gray striped white college shirt and a bold pattern strike time. The thing that I want to draw attention to is the tie. If you as you're looking at this outfit, your eyes should be drawn to that item that has the most pop to it and has the most color to it. So in this case, we've taken four pieces and coordinating them into one really nice outfit. Accent it with the pocket square matching white collar. We've taken three examples of how you can maximize your wardrobe and be coordinated for any particular occasion. In summary, the way you coordinator outfit says a lot about how you interpret style and fashion. That interpretation is the determining factor in the way you express your style. When it comes to style, we all tend to fall into categories. Some of us lean more towards a traditional or classic style. Some are more fashionable and colorful, while others are more contemporary and modern. We all see style through our own unique lens. What works for some may not work for others. When it's all said and done, allow your personality to shine, create the vision of how you want to look, how you want to carry yourself, your approach, the conversation, your confidence and, ultimately, the message you want to sin. After all, your personal style is just that personal 7. GLS Custom Clothing 7 Essential Keys Invest in Yourself Video 6: Hi. Welcome back. Throughout this course, I've tried to emphasize the importance of having the right mindset. The way I see style is from the inside out. Oh, it's easy to simply clean up and show up, but I'm sure that's not why you decided to take this course for you to learn what it takes to create, enhance or refine your personal style. It requires investment, and that is exactly what the six principal is all about. In orderto achieve any goal in life you must invest in yourself. You see, you are the CEO of your own brand. Each step that we've discussed throughout the course is leading up to you, creating your own personal brand. Organizations all over the world spend billions of dollars investing in their brand, and at a time when dressing well doesn't garner, the attention that he used to 20 years ago is very important to understand that you get out what you put in investing in your style and image goes beyond just having the right clothing. It begins with investing in you. So to manifest this success, invest in things that empower you books, seminars and webinars, joining a professional or social networking group are among some things to get you acclimated and what's going on in your community. You see, we live in a very competitive, globalized world that is heavily impacted by social media. So the personal statement you make should always be authentic, sincere and self assured. Now, the fact is, not everyone is going to perceive you in a positive light, regardless of what you do or what you wear. Therefore, it's imperative to invest in yourself as it builds up your inner fortitude. This way, the negative things people say. Well, simply glance off, have a self assuredness about yourself, walk the walk and showcase who you are. It's not about trying to please others. It's about being true to your vision. Follow these principles. Number one remain authentic to your personal brand. You control the narrative. The narrative does not control. You number to be knowledgeable about a variety of topics, especially those that you're passionate about. Number three. Create the vision of the image you want to project. Believe it, embrace it an investor time, energy and money into it. I promise you it will pay off in the long run and number four once, you said, Of course, finishing having a mindset that understands the value and benefits of investing in yourself will empower you as a leader, giving you the ability to empower others. If time is an issue, how are style coach and personal shopper? Our mission is to give you the time and the tools to make you stand out from among the crowd. 8. GLS Custom Clothing 7 Essential Keys Dare to Care Video 7: Hi. Welcome back. We've come down to the seventh essential key to create, enhance or refine your personal style. So let's recap. We've discovered throughout this course the importance of what I call the subtle nuances to dressing Will. The principles outlined are meant to give you the tools to create a style that's uniquely yours. We've now identified the relevant areas that create that lasting style. Now it's time to show you how to maintain a good crisp look. Now, with that said, the seventh and final principle to create enhance our refined. Your personal style is what I call dare to care. After all, what good does it do to visualize the look you won't have? The finest fabrics fit to your unique body type makes significant investments toward creating your brand on Lee the lose that look by not knowing what it takes to maintain it. You see, every item of clothing you own comes with instructions identifying how to maintain and careful I encourage you to follow these to the letter. It would be a shame to ruin your favorite garment just because you didn't read the instructions. Now, as with everything else in our lives, technology has had a tremendous effect, both on the way clothing is manufactured as well as the way they cared for. In many cases, it's recommended to have your clothing dry cleaned. I've been asked many times over the years about whether to dry clean are not too dry, clean. So I'll say that some fabrics do better when they're dry, clean and some don't. Fabrics such as wool suits, dress slacks and sport coats should be dry cleaned. However, the question that always seems to come next is how often as a rule of thumb, I'd say when it comes to your suit, jackets and pants, once or twice a year should suffice, depending on how often you wear them. Of course, the exception is when you have spilled or stained, then you'll want to take that item and have it cleaned. Other than that, it's a good idea to just have impressed. Some dry cleaners offer that as a service to their customers, as do some men's clothes years. So when it comes to your dress shirts, depending on the amount of start you need and how often you wear them again, it will vary. I happen to personally enjoy Arning. My clothes so I don't take mine is off. However, I'd take them say once a month. This way they maintain that crisp look that I personally like. Now here's one word of caution. If you're going to have starts put into your shirts on a regular basis, wash and dry them prior to taking them to the cleaners. This will wash out some of that starch and will make them last a lot longer. The dry cleaning process continues to evolve, not Onley, resulting in better garments but increased longevity as well. However, not all dry cleaners are created equal. Many of us have horror stories about how the cleaners ruined piece of clothing, but that's part of the risk we take. That's why it's really important to do your due diligence. So here are a few suggestions about choosing a good dry cleaner. There's a saying your reputation precedes you when it comes to selecting a dry, cleaner. Reputation is everything. Notice how someone you know, like a coworker. Our friend seems to always look put together. Their shirts look clean and crisp. Ask them where they go when visiting a dry cleaning establishment. Look at the surrounding area. Does it look clean free from the smell of smoke? Ask about their policy. If you're not satisfied, How friendly is the staff? Observe customers as they pick up their clothes? Do they look satisfied with the level of service? Is the establishment eco friendly? Technology today gives your clothing of fresher appearance without causing harm to the environment. When it's all said and done, caring for your clothes can keep them looking good for years to come, so dare to care. 9. GLS Custom Clothing Summary: Hi, Gary Hampton here with G L s. Congratulations.
