1. Course Introduction : Hello and welcome to Minimalism for beginners. Take a seat and relax. We are all about simplicity here. Whether you are a curious or season minimalist, this course could be for you. Now you may be wondering who am I? Hi, My name is Rebecca. I'm the blogger over at Minimalism made simple dot com Minimalism Made Simple is a website and podcast about simple living, intentional lifestyle and minimalism. I started my own minimalist journey about three years ago, and it literally changed my life. Now I teach others how to embrace simplicity and intentional living do minimalism. Let's talk about the course flow. So this course is broken down into three separate parts. Lesson one is an introduction to minimalism. Here you'll learn all about the meeting of minimalism and develop your own definition from minimalism as well. And less into we're gonna talk about why choose minimalism? So why do people choose minimalism and why is this a topic or a lifestyle that is trending recently? In less than three, we're gonna talk about the benefits of minimalism. So I'm going to share with you several benefits of minimalism, how it benefitted my life and how it could benefit yours as well. Unless but not least, we have our class project and workbook. So I attached a workbook for you to download with workbook problems that you can fill out either join the class or after. And then you can go ahead and share this workbook with the rest of the class that I can give you some valuable feedback. This part is completely optional and up to you. Thank you so much for joining us today and your interest in minimalism. Let's go ahead and get started. I'll see you there. 2. Introduction to Minimalism : welcome to the introduction to Minimalism, where we're gonna be talking about what is minimalism, the meaning of minimalism, defining it and what it's not. So are you struggling to figure out what this whole minimalism thing is? It's a bus word that has been thrown around a lot in recent years. Efs. You may have heard of the minimalist movement minimalize in your home and living with less . But it's a term that gets people wondering. What is exactly is the true meaning of minimalism and how do I get started? It's easy to get lost in the shuffle of tips, stories, information, ex cetera. Perhaps you imagine minimalism to be the active Persian, all your belongings and living frugally. Maybe you consider this lifestyle to be an impossible thing to accomplish. You could even be thinking to yourself, There are too many restrictions. I could never be a minimalist, and all of that is completely understandable. So let's I been to the meaning of minimalism. And the truth is, there is no one size fits all. When it comes the definition of minimalism, it doesn't fit into a teeny square box, and there is no right or wrong way to go about it. This is because nobody has the same exact intentions values, lifestyle, hopes, angles. The definition of minimalism is truly dependent on your own values and intent. So to avoid getting lost in the shuffle, perhaps start by asking yourself why you're seeking the meaning of minimalism and why you want to live a minimalistic lifestyle. For example, do you want to live arm or intentional life? Do you want to declutter your home? Do you wish to simplify your life style, or do you want to clear your mind asking yourself Why is going to give you that answer? I also want to touch a bit on what minimalism is not so contrary to popular belief. A minimal lifestyle is not about living in a teeny box with white walls, a green plant and sparking joy. Every time you pick something up, I happen to like my green plants. Don't get me wrong, but I also happen to like Libyan outside the box. When things become as popular as living minimal has they tend to get misrepresented. While there are thousands of different meanings of minimalism, there are just as many things. Minimalism is not so I'm gonna share with you a few examples. Number one is minimalism is not inclusive, but something that can be embraced by all Number two is minimalism is not following a set of rules. There is no magical guidebook and you won't find any laws to about abide by. Number three is that minimalism is not an all or nothing approach. You can start slow and work towards adopting a minimal lifestyle at your own pace. Number four is that minimalism is not on Lee about physical declutter but mental and emotional declutter as well. And number five is that minimalism is not a lifestyle that is defined by others but rather a journey that is defined by one person and one person only, which is you. So now I'm gonna end this video by asking now that we went through how to find the meaning of minimalism, how others define it and what minimalism is not. How will you determine your personal meaning of minimalism? 3. Why Choose Minimalism : in this part, we're going to talk about why we need minimalism. Why minimalism? Why is minimalism of growing trend and why do so many people choose to follow this concept ? Three reasons many people choose minimalism is one consumerism because we are addicted to consuming refocus because we need to refocus on the important things and the last purpose. Because purpose is a basic need of humans along with food and water, human beings need purpose in their lives. Now I'm going to share eight reasons on why people choose minimalism and why you should too . So minimalism helps us to focus on the important things by being intentional about what we have and what we choose to keep. Minimalism encourages us to place importance on these things and less on mindless clutter. This pertains to physical, mental and emotional clutter in our lives. Minimalism also helps us to spend less. So this goes back to what I mentioned before, which is consumerism. Sometimes we get caught up in consuming too much and then having all this clutter and we don't know what to do with it. Minimalism helps us to save more and spend less and really spend on Lee on the things that matter, we become more intentional about our spending. The next one is that minimalism makes us more content, so it's no secret that has our society advances. People are feeling less content when faced with an endless list of options. When you choose to liberate less, you begin to value more What you have. Minimalism is also known to reduce stress. So when you have an M box of overflowing emails, a closet full of clothes you never wear and a to do list that you can never quite get to, stress slowly starts to creep into your daily life sometimes so slowly that you may not even notice. Minimalism allows you to focus on being intentional about what is truly important. This could mean getting bit up things that take up too much space or even people who take up too much space. You can clear your mind and focus on what truly matters in life. Let's move on to the next four. In this slide, Minimalism teaches us about our needs. What do we really need in life? Do we sometimes trick ourselves into believing we need more than we actually do? minimalism separates our wants from our needs. It teaches us about our desires and how these desires can impact the way that we live. And sometimes these desires can impact us in a negative way by discovering what we truly need. Then we are able to see that we don't need as much as we think we do. Minimalism provides clarity when we are consumed by clutter. It's hard to find any real clarity by learning how to live with less. Replace more importance on things that matter, and we can begin clearing up our mind and space. Minimalism gives us purpose. So let's say you pick up an item and ask yourself why you have it. Or maybe you could think about a Pacific person and ask yourself why this person is in your life. This is how minimalism answers or why questions and gives us purpose. Maybe we would have never thought twice about it before or even asked ourselves these questions. In other words, we discover, meaning everything seems to serve a purpose in our lives. The last one I want to leave you with today is minimalism gives you more time, but time for what exactly time for a life and time for living. When you are focused on distractions and things that don't matter much, you'll have more time to focus on the things that do. If you're always thinking about your to do list that is filled with things such as organizing your garage, shopping for birthday presents or running errands, then the day may pass you by without any riel. Focus on what's important. Applying minimalism to your life and filling your time with more meaningful tasks, such as work out, new project, reading a good book or spending quality time with your loved ones. These are all things that can provide many and purpose in your life. So I'm gonna end this video with you asking yourself why minimalism remember that the choice is simple and yours for the taking. 4. Benefits of Minimalism: in this lesson, we're going to talk about the benefits of minimalism. How can minimalism benefit your life after our basic needs are met to material possessions really bring us a sense of security? Have we stopped to consider that if we had less of something that it could actually turn out to give us more, more in the sense of joy, fulfilment and happiness. So I'm going to share with you today several benefits of minimalism that you could possibly apply to your own life. The beauty in simplicity surpasses the need for things. The idea that living went less can make us happier is the polar opposite of every commercial advertisement we observe on television, on the radio, in magazines and on the Internet. It is a bold statement that flies in the face of mass consumerism. But maybe in spite of all the conflicting messages, simplicity really is the way to go. So here I listed three benefits, and we can continue the benefits in the next video where I'm going to list some additional benefits. The 1st 1 is focused on value so you can focus on the things you value most when your house is built with stuff. The items in your life that have real meaning tend to get lost in the shuffle if your eyes don't even know where to land when you walk into your living room. Because everything is so cluttered and your belongings are everywhere, you lose the ability to display the items you value most. Perhaps you'd like to show our pictures of your family or keepsake sperm relatives who are passed away. Give these valuable items prime Bilis. Stay in your home by getting rid of some clutter so that your most prized possessions can garner the attention that they deserve. Now this can be applied in other aspects of your life. A swell through minimalism or minimizing your life. You can really focus on your valuable relationships and the work that you value as well. The next benefit is less comparison. You'll be less tempted to compare when you reject the materialists and focus that culture tries to push on to you. You'll automatically spend less time comparing yourself to others and you'll feel less tempted to compete. This is a great feeling because there's nothing like shaking off the pressure of having to keep up with the Joneses, and the last benefit for this slide is that you'll enjoy more space. If you ever squirrel do pitches of well circulated homes, there is a common denominator. The photos all represent homes that are well decorated and not cluttered. They have just enough stuff to provide stylish visual appeal. But you don't feel like you want to attack the room with the drying garbage bag. With less stuff, your space will be more visually appealing both to yourself and to your guests. You will also be able to enjoy more space with less clutter. So now let's move on to the next video, which is going to list some additional benefits of minimalism. Stay tuned. 5. Additional benefits : Okay, So continuing from the last video, let's take a look at some of the additional benefits of minimalism. One is you'll be more in control of your money, resisting the impulse to buy lots of things. Trained your brain to break its materialistic habits. Before you know it, you'll have more money sitting in your bank account than previously and previously, like basically meaning that money that would have been spent on random clutter. The fun part about this is deciding what you want to do with the extra money now that you're more in control of your spending. Next is you'll set a positive example for your kids by teaching yourself deliberate less and getting better in control of your finances, you'll be setting a great example for those around you. This especially applies if you have kids or plan to have them, as our kids observed way more about or habits than we realize. But even if you don't have Children looking up to you, you might find out that you've inspired a partner or a relative or friend into a healthier , happier lifestyle by modeling simplicity. Next is you'll enjoy more freedom in life. Living went less gives you more freedom.
