1. Course Intro: Why You Need to Practice English At Home: Do you need to think a lot when you speak English? Does it take you a long time to answer questions? Are you a2, b1 level, but still have trouble speaking? Does this describe your English? Yes. Then this course is for you. Learning to speak English is similar to learning to play a musical instrument. Reading a book about music and listening to music will not make you a great musician. And reading a book about grammar and listening to someone explained grammar will not make you a great speaker. Let's compare learning guitar to learning English. When you learn guitar, you learn how to play chords. You may see something like this. And when you learn English, you learn grammar. You may see something like this. Are these important? Yes. Are they helpful? Yes. Should you memorize them? No. You should practice them. So it's normal to practice guitar at home by ourselves until we don't need to think about where to put our fingers. We can also do this with English. We can practice at home alone until we don't need to think about where to put our words. Both playing guitar and speaking English need to be mindless. We need to do them without thinking. And we can achieve this by practicing. Each video in this course has five unique sections for you to practice. Let's talk about why we do each one and how they will help you become a better English speaker. One is listened. Our goal for part one is just to practice listening from beginning to end. Don't panic if there is something you don't understand. Don't stop listening. Just try to understand as much as possible. Part two is listen and repeat. There will be no text. In part 2, your job is to repeat after the speakers. Our goal is to connect sounds to meanings. So for this part, there will not be any text. We use pictures to help you acquire English. Here's an example. I'm starving. Part 3 is just like part 2. We will listen and repeat after the speakers. But this time we will show subtitles. Again, we want you to connect sounds to meanings. But if you need to check some words in a dictionary, it's okay. Part 4 is shadowing. Shadowing means to speak at the same time as the speakers. This means when either speaker, a, speaker B, is talking, you speak to. We want to match the speaker's pronunciation, rhythm, and intonation. Remember, we want the words to flow from our mouth without thinking. Shadowing will make speaking English natural. In each video, we will practice shadowing several times. The final part, part five, is recall. In recall, you will need to practice the conversation by herself. There will be no audio. Recall will help you prepare for real life conversations. When you can do recall fairly easily, it's time to move on to the next video. Each video is around seven to nine minutes. We recommend practicing each video at least two to four times. We are extremely confident that with daily practice, your English speaking, listening and pronunciation will improve drastically. For this course. In order to check your progress, please record yourself doing Part 5 posted in the student project section. And the teachers will give you feedback on areas where you can improve. Remember, feedback is extremely important in language learning. So let's get started.
