1. Trailer: I'm fascinated by process of creation. Very often. At the beginning of this process, there was this kitchen where you tried to bring storm To shape your idea or to solve a problem. It's Kitching is very fast, natural way how to achieve it. That's where love is on this. Hi, my name is David and I'm an architect currently based in a beautiful city of Copenhagen, Denmark. This glasses about how to sketch like an architect we're gonna take it from the very basics is throwing straight light gradually more complex perspective sketches on the way. I'm going to share with you important tips and tricks on how to drop to the objects different perspectives used to populate your sketch and add vegetation and finally have to combine all these elements together to create an awesome perspective. Sketch. Once you enroll in this class, you are also in excess. The PVS Hamburg with all the summarized information worksheets for practicing and important tips and tricks. Explain on examples where this class you're gonna need on the papers, pencils and pens in some Colin lagers. This class is perfect for anyone who's interested in drawing or sketching urine architecture, student like, captured the moments from your holidays Or just, like, dutiful funds, then his glasses just for you. I'm looking forward to seeing all your sketches. See you in the class, honey.
2. Project Overview: Hi, guys. Thank you very much for joining this glass. A welcome to sketch like an architect. This is the first video. Quite short, but very important as it's gonna introduce you to the structure of the whole class and also to your project to get a quick and easy overview. Isom Rice All the information in a pdf handbook which you condemn away from your project attack. I recommend to do it right now so you can use the pdf as a guy for the rest of the class. Let's have a look and how it works. The pdf contains all information structure. According to the six steps off this class, each of these steps is then broken down into four parts. First I explained what we are going to learn and why. Then I show you how to do it, and I give you some crucial tips and tricks. After death, I provide you with worksheets so you can learn by practicing. Finally, there's an exercise for each of the steps so you can apply and test your newly acquired ticking or skill. Your project will be to create a collection of sketches and gradually build up your drawing skills. The collection consists of this kitchen exercises from each step, meaning six sketches in total. You can stop your purchase right now. Since we write down the name of your favorite city or building or architect and share it in the project gallery. We will use it later on in the class. You will be able to practice kitchen on something you really like. Okay, I promise to keep it short. So that's it for now. Thanks for watching. And l see you in the next video.
3. Lines & 2D Objects: Hi again. Welcome to the first step where we'll focus on drawing lines and to DOJ. If you look at the most of architectural, sketches are made up a number of different lines. Some lines are wary Jack sick, sick and some are straight. They are used not only for contours but also for guidelines, construction lines, shading, hatching and text during and pretty much almost everything in a drawing. So as the first step, we're gonna learn how to draw different types of lines. The point here is to become confident when drawing lines as they create foundation for architectural is catching. For this purpose, I prepared for worksheets for practising both lines and two D objects. So if you have to possibility, I recommend to print those out. Otherwise, you're where welcome to draw with me along the video. Let's get into it. Let's start with the 1st 2 worksheets. Try out various lifetimes, which will be very useful in later stage off. Architectural is catching okay and important. You should be sitting in a prime position so you have a good overview of your cannabis, and secondly, when drawing, try not to draw by bending your risk but drove with your whole arm instead starting to movement already from your shoulder. This technique will allow you to draw longer lands without interruption. Following up on this tip, I'm using my little finger to slight on paper while drawing a straight line. The best technique how to practice long straight lines is to connect two points with the shortest possible I. His third worksheet, should serve as a useful tool for learning. Sticking. Once you become confident about drawing lines, you can move on to drawing to the objects. Despicable we're going to need is squares, rectangles, triangles and circles. Try to use only single separate strong's to draw through the objects. Another tip pays great anger sections in corners. Not only is it easier than Taconic lines precisely in one point, but also as a more technical look. Let's get to the exercise. We're going to sketch a cityscape. So if you already chose your favorite city, that can be it where you can get inspired by roasting the Internet, your own photos or you can draw from your imagination like I will do you give you an idea. I'll show you some finished examples. First, the point of this exercise is not to get too complex, but still practice different types of lines long straight lines, barriers, studio objects and also to get familiar with the use of line. Wait. You don't have to worry too much about making it look perfect. The focus should be really on becoming more confident when drawing clients and to the objects. Help is Kitching. As you can see, start by outlining link, ground line and landscape from the big round with a pencil. I do not erase any lines, even if they appear drone, because I can learn from them instead and make it better next time. Can I begin withdrawing Sue? It's on the front line of the cityscape, trying to incorporate different lines and also some remitted shapes. When I'm done outlining, let's say, due to three layers of the city's Cade, I start to add more details, facade by joint more duty objects and hatching specific a rest. Now I use a pen with heavier line way up line and separate the front line of buildings. After death, I had more hatches without much detail to the layers in the background. When I'm done with the cityscape above ground line. I draw a reflection off it in the water, such as the water, I use wavy horizontal lines. Finally, I have the reflection with vertical hatching. Okay, here's a recap of the main tips for joining lines and duty objects. Mind your culture and maybe a good over new off your canvas drove with your whole arm, starting the movement from your shoulder. I always drove with right hand. Pull your pencil or pen rather than pushing. Not it raised the wrong blinds, but learn from them instead. Years of different lightweights serves well for defining the planes better Claritin and creating emphasis and contrast in drawing. Long lines are issued by drawing for their whole arm and supporting your hand sliding on your little finger. Fortuity objects euro each line with a single separate stroke and finally create intersections in corners or duty objects and Lloyd leaving yet. So that was lines and three objects. Don't forget to share your exercise into Project Hillary, and thanks for watching Join me in the next video, where we discussed basic perspective rules
4. Basic Perspective Rules: against what we are going to talk about next is the basic perspective. Rules. We'll start with why perspective is important. We'll cover. She components every perspective. We'll also go through typical mistakes you should avoid. Once catching perspective, let's dive into it. The way received A world is driven by the rules of perspective. Line your perspective and atmospheric one. And in this video, we will use working over the no for lines of Judy objects and applied to learn one point and two points. Line your perspective. Everything we draw from an apple less pastry needs to follow the perspective rules in order to look realistic. It's catching perspective. Works like an invisible grit, helping placed objects in our special composition. It's a way how to describe three dimensional space on a Trudy plane. Now let's have a look at the key components of every perspective, so we understand the principles of how it works. The key components off any perspective. Drawing our picture playing horizon line finishing point and ground line picture playing is an imaginary transparent plane for three D Space is projected onto Horizon Line is an imaginary horizontal line. It's eye level. Finish your point is a point on the horizon line. For parole, lines appear as converging Ground line is parole. Did a picture plane and the ground for a quick demonstration? Take your books or any boxes shaped object close to you. Place it on a table in front of you now, because the books is positioned below my whole right in line, I can see its top surface. If I raise it above my head, meaning above my horizon line, I'm able to see its bottom surface well. This is not rocket science right, but it dramatically helps to understand the importance and relation between the horizon line position and the displayed objects. Now let's see some more examples. Here's the horizon line of a few objects so we can see their top surfaces. If the horizon is cutting through the objects, we cannot see top or bottom surfaces. The same applies for the situation when the horizon line is aligned with the ground line. When the horizon is below the objects we can see, the bottom surface is now. Pause this video and find out what's wrong with this image. This is a common mistake, which you should always avoid Now let's get familiar with the concept of perspective. Find worksheets on pages 2122 use them as a guidance for practicing FREEHAND perspectives. Catching Start simple by sketching squares and rectangles and slowly built some volumes in perspective. Let your imagination play and have fun, creating an abstract perspective composition. Your exercise for practicing perspective is to create a free hand, one point or two point perspective. Skitch is playing at least three volumes off your choice. First, I recommend to start with placing imaginary boxes on your canvas and finding a nice composition and balance. The next step is to add more details to the boxes by playing with subtraction, addition or intersection off volumes. The focus of this exercise is on full understanding of perspective, rules, composition and your special imagination during sketching form or see the Page 23 into PDF Henry. - Okay , let's sum this up. Here's a rip off the main tips for perspectives catching. It started with a thumbnail sketch to sister. Ideas and compositions always draw imaginary boxes first, and then the objects inside these boxes make use of design principles such as repetition balance. In contrast, Craig Dynamics in Your Sketch by Sketch Inc along diagram lines for composition rules such as the Golden Rule, rule of thirds or others play with volumes by subtracting, ending or intersecting them. I'm looking forward to seeing all your sketches, so don't forget that flowed in through a project, Hillary. And thanks for watching.
5. Shadows, Textures & Materiality: Hey, how you doing? In his next video, we'll go from the shadows, Textures and Met Reality. Let's get started. So far we've learned about lines to the objects and perspective sketching. So now it's time to move on and improve our sketches by adding more details specifically by working with light and shadows and by expressing myth, you reality the barest textures. First, let's talk about life in the shadow Heroes catch a simple books. In two point perspective, I define the light source and drove the shadows of the books. In this example, I distinguish between two basic types of shadow cast shadow or just a shadow, and a form should do. A shade important for us is that a shadow is always darker than the shades. You can read more about his example on Page 26 into PD Avendra. Let's put this theory into practice on the page 27 into PdF handbook. You'll find a worksheet for practicing this, shading the game again. I recommend to print it out so you can try on your own first and draw a parallel lines with a real direction off sunlight through all the necessary corners. Then I constructed outlines the shadow. After that, I m vertical hatching through the shaded surfaces. Finally, I used darker hatching for the rest of shadows. I choose the direction of the hatching according grade to the orientation off the surfaces . Now let's talk rendering picnics. So far, I've been using mainly simple hatching with separate lines. But there is much broader palette rendering techniques, which are massively important in order to create high quality catch. - The effect of surrendering techniques depends a lot on a rendered medium and Children paper and its texture on the Page 28 in the pdf handle, you can read a bit more about differences between the use of pen and pencil for rendering. Now let's apply to rendering thick needs to create such a stiff textures, expressing myth you reality in our objects. Typical materials which we using Architectural is catching our break stone, concrete, timber and glass. Before we dive into the exercise, I recommend to practice these rendering pick needs and fixtures on the worksheet on the Page 30 in the PDF hangar. Now is the time for the exercise for practicing, rendering technique and suggesting materiality in your skin. I prepared at perspective composition without any textures. So your task is to finish the sketch by I think all the details. Use the worksheet on the page 32 or draw your own perspective composition. Make use of all the experience you have and you gained so far. Definitely image happens. Kitchen. Although the main focus here is on applying textures, feel free to add more details in the composition, such as windows or railings. You can also add more volumes or play with the composition as you like again, feel free to experiment. Make use of different line weights. Put city silhouettes under horizon. Draw check plans just vegetation or get creative with this guy. Try to a different kinds of details to spice up this basic composition as usual. Here's a rip up off the main tips for shadows, textures and Matthew reality for shading make a shadow always darker than the shades. Textures work as a graphic simplification. It's interesting. Real life with you make use of selective picturing highlights only some and rest. They find the real direction off life coming always through a corner. Often object learned the differences between using pen and pencil for shaving and dexterous . Observe your surroundings, get a current experience of lights and shadows. I'm excited to see what you guys come up with, so please share your exercise into Project Gallery. Thanks for watching. And I'll see you in the next video.
6. Populating Your Sketch: Hi. This video, we'll take a look at a quick way. How to populate our sketches. Catching human figures is an essential skill in order to better understand a sketch space. There are several reasons why integrating human figures architectural sketches is important . General is picking. Architecture is about creating spaces for people, so from this point of view, it makes sense toe people into spaces which are meant for them. By doing so, we depict more lively environment. So we can better describe our idea because people are one of the key elements of storytelling. Finally and most importantly, human figures at a sense of scale to our sketches. Therefore, we should always referred to a human figure when defining the scale on this kitsch space. One of the most important aspect was catching human figures is the proportions. By keeping the right proportions between heads, body and legs, we make sure that our human figures look realistic. Let's have a closer look at the proportions. I divide the hype off a human finger into two halfs. Both hearts are then subdivided into smaller parts. The upper half. He split into thirds in the lower half into another house the very top third is for ahead the rest of the upper half his body and the lower half his legs. We can start very simply outlining a human figure with basic two D objects, getting a bit more specifics to advice that then I think the same proportions, same principles and applied into war. Freehand sketching using loose curves and dynamic strokes. Use the worksheet under page 36 into PdF handbook, and practice is catching human figures that's applied this new skill perspectives. Catch your exercise this time is to sketch a composition of human figures in an eye level perspective. I'll guide you through my process so you can get an idea about a workflow. I'm going to sketch a space evoking a public platter so a number of differently distributed people would feel natural in here. I started with the Horizon Line and a reference human figure, which I used to do to remind the scale of the building and hold surroundings. Let's make one story on the building the same height as two human figures. When I'm finished with outlining the sitting, I begin to sketch human figures in the foreground. It's important to keep all of the standing people's heads on the horizon line. I'm heading simple shadow, so they seem to be standing on the ground. How many more people to the composition in different distances? Finally, I'm ending some finishing touches to the scene, such as vertical hatching porter building outline vegetation for landscape in the big ground. - Time for a recap yard in Maine. Tips for populating yours catch. Use those curves and more dynamic strokes to quickly sketch human figures. Give the right proportions between hat body and let's to achieve a realistic group. Use human figures to deter mined scale and depth in your image. So just in direction drove groups of people instead of a number of individuals in an island perspective, draw all the standing people's heads on the horizon line. Draw the ground figure standing gone or a cast shadow so it doesn't look like people flying in the air. Okay, that's it for now. Don't forget to share you exercise in the Project gallery. And thanks for watching
7. Adding Vegetation: hi and welcome to one last step before we put everything together. And that's ending. Vegetation, Natural elements complete important role in individuals. Vegetation might serve well for defining a setting framing of you for unveiling a real focal point. Often image. So in this video we'll focus on drawing trees, bushes and grass in different scales and from different angles. As you can see from these examples, drawing vegetation does not require, and it being you from us. We still use lines and Judy objects just in slightly different manner. Let's start with drawing a crowd line and reference human finger. You can use what we have already learned and sketch the trees just by using simple lines and duty objects. Since re sketch natural elements, it should be reflected on the style off our sketching. You should use check lines, regular and organ shapes and overall, more free and style. The level of detail off these trees depends on their scale. When I draw smaller trees, which are bigger distance, I used low level of detail. I can merge several trees into one group and draw it as one coherent voting. As you can see, I'm always referring the human bigger was getting the drunk off the wrong tree with at least the same height as a human figure. In case of more detail trees, it's a good idea to a grass or bush to the wherever the trunk meets the grounds. - Use the worksheets under pages 42 43 sketch our own vegetation. This time it's real quick and fun exercise for practicing vegetation. Your task is to sketch a simple scene with different types of vegetation, including at least 2 to 3 trees and bushes and grass. Again, I start with the reference Human Finger and the nice catch composition off three trees. Grady, Ato, Ankara or composition with a unifying element dis case a simple brick wall in the background to suggest the brick material off the wall. I'm using selective text drink. Finally, I'm using a pen with heavier line way. Increase the contrast and more depth to the image optionally. You can use a marker to enhance the shading off this sketch. - Here's a river off the main tips for sketching vegetation, used declines, irregular shapes and generally a free hand style of sketching level of the details applied the vegetation defense on its scale or distance from a viewer, simplified the trees, which are in the distance and applying more details to the trees. In the foreground. Throw a trunk off a grown tree without leaves, the same high as a human figure. In the case of more detailed trees at cross or Bush's in the everywhere, the trunk means the ground vegetation serves well for defining a setting, braving of you or unveiling a focal point of an image. I hope you enjoy this exercise. Please share it with others in the project gallery and thanks for watching.
8. Awesome Perspective Sketch: and here we are. Final step. Let's make some awesome perspective. Sketches in this last step would take a look at the bigger picture, and we'll focus on virus aspect. Often image as a whole, such as composition, scale, debt place or focal points. I will walk you through my image, making process off three different examples, which are based on what the references or my imagination. This time, there are no worksheets, just the final exercise. Your task is to create a free hand perspective sketch and use your newly acquired skills or techniques. You can think of this exercise as creating your masterpiece, but no pressure, no pressure. It'll just enjoy and love yourself to experiment and happy sketching. Now it's a great chance to get your favorite building, and here's one of the possible work flows. Start by testing ideas on small dumplings. Kitsch is choose a good composition, established the right scale with the reference human figure Draw a focal area, starting with imaginary boxes first at surroundings, more people and vegetation. Finally, at some finishing touches, such as more details, hedges, shading and color. Here's my thumbnail sketch of the first example. This image was a really good exercise for perspective and composition. I was working with different depth planes to really distinguish between foreground middle ground and big grounds. Again, I emphasize the focal point with the color accents, and I tried a bit more creative graphics on the sky, which supports the flow off the building and the landscape. - This next image is based on a photo I met recently in the streets of Copenhagen. Sketch depicts the lower half off an oriole of a five story building. As the scale of the sketches big, it requires a high level of details. This was a fun challenge, observing skills and detail in court, including sketching window reflections and shading techniques. - The last sketch is inspired by a rendering off an exhibition pavilion in Nature. German Tree of the Public Moon allows here for strong diagonals, creating dynamics and depth in the sketch to enhance the measure of context. The foreground is outlined by a tree, and Bush is framing the whole image. Okay, one last time you are remain Tips for awesome perspective sketches. Focus your detailing work only on such areas which mattered to the image. Take your time to produce high quality textures and shading in his catch. Think of how we can complement buildings. German tree in your composition. Get creative with graphic ideas for the sky. Try adding some water elements to your composition. Pay attention to small details and practice observing skills. Think creatively about framing your image. Use color accents to emphasize certain areas or shapes in your sketch. I hope you enjoy this exercise. I'm looking forward to seeing all the results in the approach a gallery and thanks for watching.
9. Final Thoughts: big congratulations for making it so far. I really hope you enjoy the journey and that you learned some new things about architectural sketching. There is one thing I like you today reviewed. It would be to remember the imperfections and your human touch is what made Freehand sketching so unique. So there is no wrong or right approach. Just be open experiment, look and keep practicing. If you share euros kitchens on social media, I'll be very happy if you take me as David underscored gravel or use the HASHTAG sketch like an argument, I will definitely check it out. Thanks a lot for taking this class. I will be very grateful for your feedback, so feel free to leave. Your comments or advice is for improvement, thanks again and happy sketching.
