1. Class Intro: Hey, I'm Annie or Lucid, and the meaning behind
Lucid is two folds. So one is clarity
through connections, and the second is keep shining. Your spark sparks others. And this is the mission statement
that I have in my mind. And in this course, let's shine by learning how
to draw some aquatic animals. So if you're a beginner or looking to get
started right away, this is the perfect
course for you and a reminder that you can pause
and rewind at any time, making it the perfect class
to go at your own pace.
2. Procreate Basics: Okay, so let's do a quick
intro to Procreate, and, of course, we'll
learn more as we go. But for now, let's
cover the basic. So to start, let's
actually learn how to open and what the size of our Procreate
drawing canvas will be. So in order to do that, we'll first go into
the plus sign. And with that opened, next, let's go to
our square size. So with our square
size selected, it'll automatically pop up, and this is the size that we'll be using for our drawings. So you saw that I could move it by pinching in and I zoom in, pinch out, zoom out, and I can even twist it around. So that's pretty neat. So with that open, this is actually our
right handed interface. So if you're left handed, this isn't actually the
interface that you want. Instead, if you're left handed, let's go ahead and click
onto the wrench tool. And let's click on
our preferences. And let's click on
right hand interface. So now this is the
left handed interface. And what has changed is that
this bar right here, well, this bar used to be right
here on the left hand side, but if you're left handed, this bar will be on
your right handed side. So let's go ahead
and let's actually start exploring this interface
slash all of the Controls. But first, I'm going to
go ahead and I'm going to switch back because
I'm right handed. And so the first thing we can do is we can go ahead
and select our color. So with this open, this
is our color palette, and what we can do is we can
move around in the middle. And we can move around
on the outside as well. So if you push it up, this is actually the color that will come out of your
brush right here. So you can see the color change as we move our brush around. So let's say I want maybe a yellow color,
and that's right here. And let's test out the color
that comes out of our brush. So if we click on our brush, we can actually select a ton of different
types of brushes. So maybe I want to use
sketching six B pencil, and I can go ahead and
just go into my canvas. And this color right here is the same color as
this one right here. So that looks really cool. And next, let's go ahead and
explore what these bars do. So if you push this one down, this is the brush size. So if I have it low, I get thin brush if I push it high, you can
see the difference. So push it down, small, push it up, big brush size. So pay attention to the bar on this side
when I'm drawing, so you know how big my brush is. And on the bottom, this is the opacity, which just means how
transparent is it. So, for example,
if you're at 100%, that means it's not very
see through at all. But if you bring it down, then it becomes lighter
and more see through. This just means how dark
is it and how light is it. So if you're bumping
the opacity very high, that means it's darker
and less see through. And if you bump it down, that means it's more see
through and lighter. So this middle button right
here, what's this square? So right here, if you
click on it and hold it, you actually get this
wheel that appears. So what that means is that this is actually a color
dropping tool. So let's say I want
a white color, so I want this
white canvas color. I can just let it go
and you can see that my color has changed to
the same color as this. So now I'm on my brush, and if I color something
in it's that white color. If I want it to be yellow, I can go ahead and click and hold and I can get
that yellow color. If I let go, it's
that yellow color, and you can see the
color right there. So let's say I don't want this. I can quickly undo that by clicking this
but right here. So undo. But let's say I changed my
mind and I want it back again. I can redo, so undo and redo. And another trick,
too, for a shortcut. If I want to undo something, two fingers and tap once. So there's actually
another way to undo, which is the eraser. And the eraser is
right over here. So if I click onto it, this is my eraser. But if I click onto it again, I can select a
variety of eraser. So I can go ahead and scroll, and I can go ahead and choose
whatever eraser I want. And I'll just pick
a random eraser, but you can see, now I'm
just erasing everything. Next, let's go ahead and let's actually go
back to our brush, and let's draw something. So let's say I have a circle. And if I hold it, I get
a nice smooth shape. And for a circle, if you want this to be a perfect circle, you can go ahead and use
your other finger and just click onto it and hold and
you get a perfect circle. If you let go, this is
your perfect circle. And next, what you can do to fill this in
really quick is you can go ahead and click onto your color and drag
it and drop it. And boom, you just filled
in your color really quick. And of course, the next thing that we can do is we
can play with layers. This is our layers. What that does is
it provides you with options to put things
on top of other things. For example, layer one, this circle is on
that and you can also click on this checkmark, which just means that it's
invisible and then visible. The blue highlight means that this is the
layer that you're on. If I want a new layer, now I have layer two and layer two is on
top of layer one. Whatever I draw, I'm going to
switch this color to black. But let's say, I just
want a smiley face. If I go back to my layers, you can see that layer two
is on top of one and if I hold it and I put it
underneath layer one, you can see that layer two
is now underneath layer one. And if I click onto layer one, layer two is still
there, but it's just hidden underneath layer one. So if you want
something to be shown, you just put it over, and that's how we can
play with our layers. All right, so those are the basic knowledge that comes along with
using Procreate. So let's go ahead and let's
learn how to save this out. So we can go into our wrench tool and
with our wrench tool, we can click Share. Next, let's go ahead
and click JPEG. Now we're saving our
file and we can save the image to our iPad or whatever drawing
device that we're using. And now that it says that
it's been saved successfully, that means it'll be
in your photo role. And with all of that, I think it's time to start
with our drawing lessons.
3. Color Palette: A quick note regarding
the color palette. So every drawing comes
with a color palette. And in order to access that, you have to download it and then open it up in
your drawing device, and it should
automatically open it and save it into
our color palette. So if you go into
your color palette, it should be under
the palette section, and if you scroll up, you can set it as
your default palette. If you set it as
your default palette and you go back to your disc, you should see that the
palette has uploaded to your main palette.
There you go.
4. Drawing Fish: Alright, we're going to
be drawing fish today, so let's go into
our color palette. Let's select that black. Let's go into our brush, and let's select
calligraphy monoline. So with that selected, let's begin with our first fish. So let's do a triangle shape, so one, two, and let's
connect those lines. Three. So this is our
curved triangle shape. We'll do the same
thing for the tail. So we have one, two, and three. So we have our basic shape. Let's, of course,
add in an eyeball. So let's draw a circle. And we can hold it a bit, and then let's draw
another circle inside. This is the pupil, and we'll
color that in as well. Next, let's do the lips. So we have one and two. And let's draw a line
for a nice look. So we have our first fish done. Next, let's add a
friend for this fish. So we have our second
fish right here. And let's add in this line, like sew another line, and let's connect that. So we have our triangle
that's flipped, and let's put in the tail. So same thing, one, two, three, and the eyes, of course, so our fish can see. So we have our circle, and inside of that circle, let's put in a baby circle. And this is the pupil, so we can go ahead
and color that in, and then let's add in
some lips, as well. So now our fish can talk, and we can also add
in more fish friends. So let's do that, and
let's add in 12 and three. So this is our other
triangle shape. And let's do the
same for the tail. So we have one, two, and three. All right, cool. Let's add in
some eyes so this fish can see with our circle and
our smaller circle. And, of course, let's
put in some lips. And next, we have a
space for another fish. So let's go ahead and
add in one more fish. So let's put the
fish right here. And again, we're using
that same motion, and we can do that
with the tail as well. Like, so next, let's
add in the eyeball with circle eyes and
another baby circle inside. This is the pupil and some
lips. So there we go. We have our four fish. And from there, what we can do is we can go ahead
and add in one more. So there's a space
for this fish. So let's go ahead and add in
this last fish right here. So let's go ahead and we're just going to do the same
motion. We have our lips. We have our eyes, and our eyes are just a circle
and another circle inside. And we can color that in.
5. Coloring Fish: So there we go. We
have our five fish. And next, let's go ahead
and add in a new layer. So click into our layer, and let's click the plus sign. And what we'll do
is we're actually going to draw in some rocks. So we have a little bit of
rocks going on right here and just make that curve
motion and just connect. Next, let's add in a new layer. So let's go into our layers. And let's add in the plus, and we have our layer three, let's grab that layer and
put it underneath layer one. So with that, we
can go back into our color palette and let's
select our blue color. So let's go into our brush, and let's choose
our painting brush, and let's choose the watercolor. So with that, we
have our light blue, and let's just gently shade
across the whole picture. And I just bumped up my opacity, and we can just bump that
up, and let's cover. And let's make the brush
size smaller, too, and let's just color this whole picture
with that blue color. And let's of course draw in
some waves of that blue. So you can see, it's
a very light blue, and it's just gently
shaded on top, and that's our light blue. So we can go ahead and
use an even darker blue, and we can cover it up a bit more so you can see it
a little bit better. So there's our other
shade of that blue, and we're just gonna
color it all in. And we'll do an up and
down squiggly motion, and we go into our layers, and let's go ahead
and make a new layer. So with our new layer opened, we can go to our color panel and let's select
that light green. So with our light
green selected, go to brush, and let's
select our sketching brush. And from there, let's make
sure that we're using our artist's crayon and
with our artist crayon, what we'll do is we'll
tap onto a drawing. Let's lower the
brush size a bit, and let's start drawing
in some of that seaweed. So you can see that I've
zoomed in and I'm just drawing some seaweed and
you can draw one at a time, like what I'm doing right now. Draw a squiggle and
it's okay if you get it inside the fish and you
can connect these as well. And the other option
instead of one by one, you can just draw in a V shape. Right now I'm doing
one by one and I did a little bit
of those V shapes, and I'm just going to keep going and keep
creating that seaweed. So my seaweed is all tangled
up and here's some V shapes, and this will be a faster way to do it instead
of that one by one method. So I have some seaweed going on, and some of it is all tangled up, and you
can do the same. And let's go to our color panel, and let's select
that darker green. So we have our lighter
green seaweed, and we have our darker
shade of that green. So we have two shades of
that green for the seaweed, so we have a darker
one and a lighter one, and that makes for a really
nice touch to this drawing. So here I am drawing some of that darker green shade of that seaweed and they
connect sometimes. And let's just keep going and
keep drawing those seaweed. If you want, you could
avoid your fish or you can go ahead and
draw over your fish because what will
happen is later on we're going to
color over the fish anyways and they'll cover up any of the seaweed that
got into the fish. So let's just keep going. So with that, that
looks pretty good. I'll go into my layers, add a new layer. And this is my layer five, and what we'll do is we're
going to add in some color, and we're going to color
in some of the rock. So make sure you turn up
the brush size just a bit and make sure when you're
coloring in your rocks, you're staying within the black lines the
best that you can. So we have that color, and let's just color
in all of your rocks. So it creates a
really nice texture, and we're just going to
fill up everything So, feel free to move your picture around and
zoom in and zoom out. So that usually helps. So there I go. This is the
basic color for the rocks. Next, of course,
we're going to try to fill up a little bit
of that white space, and let's go ahead and
select a darker shade. So with this darker shade, let's just color it
within the rocks as well. So we're using two different
colors for this rock so far. And let's use that new
shade on the bottom of the rock. So there we go. And let's go ahead and
use that darker brown, and let's use it on
the most bottom. So we have three shades
going on, and of course, we can bump it up
a little bit and just have it all
mixed up in there. So that's looking
really good so far, and we're almost there. And there we have it. This is the rock. And I'll just color a bit more. And from there, let's go ahead and add in a new
layer with the plus. So with this layer, let's go back to
our color palette. Let's select this nice yellow. And then let's go to our brush, select sketching
and six B pencil. And let's use that yellow
for the bottom of the fish. So let's just cover
this part all yellow. So we're almost there. And now that we have this nice yellow on the bottom part of the fish, let's go to our color palette, and let's select that
orange shade right there. So with that selected, let's go ahead and color
in the bottom of the fish. With two of that shade, you have your
yellow and you have the orange that I'm
coloring right now. So this looks really
nice because you're using two colors instead of one. And let's actually use this orange for the top
part of the fish as well. So let's go ahead and
color that all in. And for this part, you can take your time and coloring in things are actually
very relaxing, so feel free to just enjoy that. And, of course, you can
bump up your opacity or lower depending on what you
would like fish to look like. So next, let's go to our color
palette select that pink, and we'll have a little bit of pink on the top of
the fish as well. So we're just mixing
the colors in, and you can see the nice blend. We have pink going on, and we have that nice orange. Next, let's use this same
pink on the tail of the fish. So next let's go to
our color palette, and we'll select that orange, and we'll use the orange
on the tail of the fish. And then we can also
use our yellow as well. So feel free to use the
colors as you wish. I like to mix the colors so we have more than one
color being used. So you can see I'm kind
of trying to blend in all those colors and I'll use that orange for
the lips as well. And with the white, I'll
color in the eyeballs. So there you have
it the first fish, and I'm just going to color
in all of the eyeballs right now just so the eyeballs aren't that blue
color from the sea. Next, let's go into
our color palette, and let's select our pink, our pinkish purple, actually. And so let's color this
all in with that color. So that's a really nice color
for a little tiny fish. And let's go ahead and
color in the tail as well. With that colored in,
let's select our blue. So with that blue, let's
draw in some poka dots. So those are just circles and
you can draw it all around. Use a dark blue, and you can just
make little shades. So you're not just
using one color. And I'll use that blue
for the lips, as well. And next for the other fish, I'll use that light
blue color that in. And then I'll color
in the tail as well. So with that colored in, I'll go into my color, and I'll select that darker blue and I'll draw in some stripes. So that's a really cool effect. And I'll actually go into
my colours once more and select that other color
and make more stripes. So for this part, feel free to decorate your fish
as you'd like. And I'm actually going
to use another color. I'm going to use that yellow, and I'm going to
color in this fish. So again, your fish could be
whatever design you want. You can color it
whatever color you want, and you can make whatever
patterns you'd like. So I'm just going to use
yellow for this fish. And from there, I'm going to switch my color over
to that orange, and I'm just going to create
some of that dark shadow, and I'll use some of
that right here as well. And I'll cover the
lips with that. Then I'll switch on
over to a nice green, and I'll put some of that
green onto this fish as well. So it gives it a nice pop. So I'll add that on
the tail as well. And that's looking
really cool to me. So next, I'll go into my colors and select
that darker shade of the green and create
more of the nice line. So that looks really neat. I'll do my other fish, and I'll use that
green for the lips. And let's use that light green to colour it in with
this nice shade. So it'll be half light
green and half light blue. So that looks really cool to me. And then I'll do the tail
with that nice line. And from there, I'm going to
select that pinkish purple, and I'm going to create
some of that dot pattern. So that's looking
really neat so far. I'll color in the tail, and we're actually almost done. Alright, so with that, let's go to make a new layer, and let's click on
our first top layer, and let's click Plus to add another layer that
goes on top of that. So let's use our white, and let's lower our brush size, and let's actually draw in
some tiny little bubbles. So this is our finishing touch. We're just going to
be adding in bubbles. So this is a really fun
thing to do at the end. And of course, we
can add in some more of that wave if we'd like. So I'll just add in a bit. And next, let's go to our color, and let's select our blue. So this blue looks nice, and we're just going
to make some bubbles so you can actually see
it better than the white. So bubble, bubble,
and more bubbles. So go ahead and make those
circles for your bubbles. So we're almost done. And there you go. Those are some nice
little bubbles, and of course, you can add in some more details
if you like. But we did it. We drew some fish, and we have some bubbles and
some nice seaweed, as well. So that's how you draw fish.
