About This Class

Hello, and thank you for joining me on Skillshare.

My name is Noel, and I’d like to welcome you my Photoshop Class... “Dispersion”.

On the face of it, the dispersion technique may look difficult or complicated, but it actually breaks down into some basic Photoshop techniques.

In this class you will learn how to create this popular effect and apply it to your own projects.

You will discover how to create a dispersion effect using the Warp Tool, Layer Masks and a Fragment Style Brush. You will also use the Blur Tool to create a sense of motion, and add a Background, Reflection and Shadow to give the apple a realistic environment.

This class may interest you if you would like to expand your knowledge and apply the skills you learn to your own project. Learning through doing is a powerful way to absorb and retain new skills.

This class really is step-by-step. Every part of the process is captured in the screencast. I will show you in detail how to complete your own project.

While it is definitely possible for a beginner to follow along, the class may be more suited to an intermediate level.

See you in class...

1. Introduction: hello and thank you for joining me on skill share. My name is Knoll, and I'd like to welcome you to my photo shop class dispassion. On the face of it, the dispersion technique may look difficult or complicated, but to actually breaks down into some basic photo shop techniques in this class, you will learn how to create this popular effect and apply it to your own projects. You'll discover how to create a dispersion of fact using the warp tal laia masks, onda fragments style brush. You'll also use the blood toe to create sense of motion on and at a background reflection on shudder. To give the apple a realistic environment, this class may interest you. If you would like to expand your knowledge and apply the skills you learned to your own project. Learning through doing is a powerful way to absorb and retain new skills. This class really is step by step. Every part The process is captured in the screen cast. I will show you in detail had to complete your own project. While it's definitely possible for a beginner to follow along the class, maybe more suited to an intermediate level to really gain practical knowledge of this technique. I would encourage you to take part in the project. Your project will be to choose your own piece of fruit on a projectile onto, then follow step by step to create your own dispassion. I would like to invite you to upload your work in progress to the class Project gallery at any point for feedback. Please don't feel you need a finished masterpiece before sharing with May or the skill share community. My role is teacher is to ensure you have the best learning experience. See you in class. 2. Create A New Document: Let's create a new document in photo shop. Let's make it 1600 pixels wide by 900 pixels high 300 pixels. Parents on this is going to have a transparent background. Let's save this as dispersion. 3. Finding Image Resources: The next thing we need to do is find images for our project. We will need an apple andan arrow. This work just fine, right? Click copy image as it's paste. I came. Maybe we need to such for riel. All right, this is nice. This checkered background tells us that background is transparent, which is good. If we copy and paste this as we did the apple, the transparent background will turn black. So instead that's right. Click save image, as I wrote. Then open it from within photo shop. Select the Arrow Dragon over the tab of our main documents and then drop it in. We can see the photo shop has given the arrow its own layer. 4. Improve the Apple Image: Let's go back to our apple. We can resize this and it transform scale to remove the white background from the apple. Take your quick selection tool and select the apple. If you over select, just switch to the icon with the minor symbol, - then select in verse and hit the delete key. So we now have a ripple on a transparent background. But I know this edge is not going to be good enough for what we want. So select the pencil and draw around your apple. - Close the shape. Right click. Make selection. Select the apple layer and there's a leak. A oh, has it clear that's much better now. Ah, outline is nice and sharp. 5. Create a Black and White Layer: Let's create two new layers of black want and a white one. This will help us see more clearly what we're doing. Creating you, Phil. Solid color black create new Phil Sold color white. 6. Using the Warp Tool: Let's duplicate the image of the A poll and cool. It's cool. That's called the original emits Master Apple. And put that at the bottom of the stack. We're going to create some distortion at the entry. Andi, exit points of the arrow with the warp tour said Go filter liquefy. Select the Ford Walk toe and just drag the side of the apple out, make the brush a bit smaller and do the same on the other side. Now increased the pressure, does it say and pushed the uproar back in again. Click OK. 7. Create the Interior Apple: next, we need to create a layer below this that will become the interior of the apple. So duplicate this lamp. That's cool. Let interior. Let's find an airport. That's bean cut in half. Anything will do. Really. We're just looking to sample the color. This is fine. Copy image paste. Select the eyedropper tool. Now, as you click on the image, you can see the color being added to the swatches panel. Andi also to the foreground color over here. Drank that later. The bottom. Select the interior layer. Select subject and it Phil. Full grounds color. Let's put this layer under our pool. If we view that with the black background, we can see that's given us an outline which we don't want is the quick selection tool to select the objects. Select Modify contract. Okay, select in verse. Onda Late. Now, if we check, we can see that our outline is gone. 8. Tear the Apple Skin: next, we're going to create a torn effect on the apple skin. Let's go back to filter liquefy on drag from the outside in click OK, so the benefit of creating the interior of the apple is that if we apply dispersion effect to the surface of the apple, we reveal the apple interior instead of creating a whole. 9. Add the Dispersion Effect: next, we need to create a copy of the apple layer. Onda, copy off the interior. Leo, Let's call that a pool dispassion. That's cool. That interior dispassion select the apple dispersion layer. Go filter liquefy. Select the Ford warp toe and drag this all out. This is going to be our apple fragments. Click OK, do the same with the interior dispassion. Lamb click OK with the interior dispersion layer selected. Hold the okay and now click. Add layer mask holding the or key will give us a black fill. Do the same for the that poor dispersion layout. Let's sort of these layers So we have a pool apple dispassion, interior interior dispersion and make them more visible. We can also make the black layer visible so we could more easily see what we're doing. Okay, Now make sure the apple dispersion layer is selected and you have clicked on the mask itself. Make your foreground color white. To demonstrate this, I'm going to simply choose a brush. When you draw in this area here you reveal the image below the mask. Let's undo that. Now, if you use a fragment style brush, you get this kind of effect. Let's undo that for now. Make your our visible and move it below the apple layers to get the right size and position . Go edit, transform scale Commence. Select the interior dispersion layer. Select the mask and select a textured brush you are happy with. You can change the size of your brush from the brush. Pando. Oh, you can use thes square brackets on your keyboard size and position your brush They're going now. If you select the apple dispassionately arm on, offset your brush slightly, you can create a three D effect on the same for the other side. Rotate your brush on, make it smaller and work on the tourney areas until they're seamless. - Now there is more material flying out. Then we probably need so change your foreground color to black and remove the material you don't need. - You can change back to a normal brush on and do a bit more tightening up 10. Add Motion Blur to the Arrow: So next we can add some motion blood to the arrow, so select the earlier, then go filter le motion blur. Okay, now, when you do this, it it can make the apple pieces look quite static. So why don't we just give them a little bit of motion blur? 11. Create the Background: next, we're going to create soft background for our report. Let's go back to our original Apple image. Duplicate that Andi Colette soft background move that led to the top. Andi hide some of these other layers so we can see what we're doing. Let's flip this over. I had it transform flip vertically. Let's stretch that out and it transforms scale. Go felt Ah, uh, calcium blow. Let's bring back the other layers and move that down Next week, Another Grady int so great new Phil Radiance professed them. Okay, And just put that below are soft background. In fact, these both need to go blow all the apple layers on and below the hour. 12. Add a Reflection: next weekend at a reflection again. Cheap. Placate the original apple that's cool. That reflection. Flip it vertically so and it transform flip vertical move that last week. Incense JC capacity. Now this gap is making I rappel look like it's floating, so just just move up. 13. Add a Shadow: Let's create a shadow for a pool, creating new layer above the reflection layer. Call that shadow. Choose a soft round brush, select black and just painted spot on that layer made that into position and that trance bones scale except Andi just reduce the capacity. 14. Now it's Your Turn...: thank you for taking my class and skill share. The apple dispersed in you saw it was created and recreated at least a dozen times before recording the class. The best way to really absorb this information and turn it into a skill your own is to take part in the project. Your project, then, is to choose your own piece of fruits on to project our It could be a gulf bull dice, a coin or even a piece of gum. When you have your own two images, follow step by step through the class to create your own dispassion. Please share your work in progress in the class Project gallery at any time. You could start by uploading the two images you've chosen to work with. My role here is teacher is to give you feedback and encouragement and I'm sure other students in the skill share community would like to do the same. Thank you
