Maasai Warriors: Acrylic Painting Project for Children and Beginners

1. Introduction to Maasai Warrior Painting Lesson: Hey, friends, how are you today? I hope you're having a good day. I'm excited about the opportunity to teach you this lesson. It's one of my favorites. We're going to create Ah, beautiful picture of the Masai people of Africa. And before we begin, I just wanted to talk to you a little bit about the artwork and what you will need to be successful with this project. So this is a sample that I put together. As you can see, the colors that we will need are acrylic colors, and I'll go over that in a moment. But I just wanted to talk about the colors right now. So as you can see in the middle, we have a bright yellow and then we have a darker orange. We have a red and we have black, so we we will only need four colors of acrylic paint. And yes, I'm going to put this aside right now and talk a little bit about the supplies that you will need 2. Step 1: Paint Background: the first thing that you will need is a piece of paper. Now this is a special piece of paper for acrylic painting. You do not need to have acrylic painting paper, but if you have it, that would be wonderful. It's just a thick paper that holds acrylic paint. Well, you will need, as I said, four different colors of acrylic paint. So we have here. We have our orange, we have red, we have black and we have yellow. If you don't have these exact shades, that's OK. You can use other colors as well. But if you would like your painting to turn out like this, then you will need those four colors and they are the acrylic paints. Okay, you will also need a paintbrush. I used the's big paintbrushes for this particular project. You will also need a small piece of cardboard. Let me show you what we will do with that. So once we're finished doing all the other painting, the last thing that we're going to do is we're going to dip this piece of cardboard in some black paint and then we're going to just make their legs, their arms and a little bit of the decoration on their outfits. When Christ will need a little piece of cardboard, you will also need some water. We're not going to use the water to mix in the paint, but we need it to keep our paint brushes clean. You will also need a paper plate, so we so that we can put the paint on the paper. Please. If you have a different type of a of a plate war, something that you'd like to put your paints on, that's fine as well. And paper tells when I paint with acrylics, I do use quite a few paper towels because I like Teoh. After I clean my brushes in the water, I like to I would like to dip, remain, clean him off, and then I like to dry them pretty well with the paper towels. So you want to have a few of those or sponges work while or so an old rag something like that. So, yeah, I'm excited. Let's get started. So the first thing that you want to do is you'll want to pour Ah, small amount of your orange on your paper, polite, and then you'll also want to pour some yellow on your paper plate. So orange and yellow, those air going to be the background colors. So those are the colors that you want to use first and we will use. Let me show you the picture again. So we're going to use the yellow and the orange for the background. Then we're going to let it dry, and then we will be using the red and the black. So for right now all we need is the orange and the yellow. I'm going to start out, get this bigger brush. I'm going to start out with this brush. It's fairly large because I want to make sure that I can cover a lot of paper quickly. And I'm not going to be super careful with this. This is something that I'm just going to do very quickly. So I dip my brush in and I get it well loaded. That means I have a lot of pain on their and I just start dabbing like this. I'm not going to be painting like this this time. I wanted to have a lot of texture to it, and I'm going to go around my piece of paper and make sure that I have the middle section of my paper covered with the yellow. And I just keep moving my paintbrush around. And I like that it has a lot of texture that means, like bumps and little areas that are uneven. And again, I'm not going all the way to the edge of the paper because I like my orange to go there and we'll do a little bit of blending as well. So you just keep going, going going until you are finished with the men. Middle part of your paper. Okay, If you need a little bit more paint, you can squirt a little bit more on there, but I think that I'm going to have just enough. All right, so I want to make sure it gets fully covered. Now, what I'm going to dio is I'm going to take my orange and did you see how I didn't even wash it out? I don't need to do that now. I'm going to go along the edge. You'll also want to make sure that you put down some paper or some newspaper something because see here how I'm getting it on the paper underneath. You want to make sure because this is acrylic and it can stain. You want to make sure that you have something covering underneath your piece of paper. So I'm just going to do this all the way around, and I'm going to kind of tap it along, making sure that I have everything covered up here and a little bit of yellow will come through. And that's fine. Actually, that makes it look pretty cool. All right, Almost finished. Now, remember, if you need a little bit more time with this because I am going fairly quickly if you need a little bit more time to do this, what you can do is positive video until you finish. Okay, so I have that part done. Now, the next thing that I'm going to dio is I am going to add a little bit more yellow because I wanted to be fairly blended in. So I go back to my yellow and I didn't even rinse out my brush. So I'm going to kind of blend it in a little bit. It's a little bit more blended in colors. Not quite a strong on the outside. I'm just tap tap tapping. Is it going to look exactly like yours? No, it's not. That's the really cool thing about art is that everyone's will look different. Just do what you think looks the best. Okay, Now I want to show you my other one that I did earlier. It actually has more yellow in the center, which I could do. But I kind of like the way that this is looking right now. So I think I'm going to keep it like this. Let me show you what my other one look like. So even though I in the same artist that has done this one and this one, you can see how different they are. And that is actually a really good thing. So I have a lot of yellow in this one, and I don't have a much yellow in this one. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to turn off the video. I'm going to let this dry, and I want to make sure that it's really really dry. So I'm going to put it outside and make sure the wind doesn't blow it away. And if you live in a sunny area and It's a sunny day. Maybe you could do the same. Sometimes people use a blow dryer, or you could just let it sit for about an hour or so and then it should be dry and then we'll come back and we will carry on, Okay, seeing a little bit by. 3. Step 2: Paint Maasai Warriors: Hey, friends. Okay, I'm back. My painting is dry, so now we can go on with the next step. So let me explain to you what we're going to dio let me show you the one that I've already completed. So we're going to make ah few of the people. And the way that we're going to make them is we're just going to usar paint brush dipped in our red paint, and we're going to very lightly make straight lines as many as you want. If you want to have a lot of people in your picture, then you would make a lot of lines. If you want to have just maybe three or two, then you wouldn't You would do that many. So it is really up to you. I'm just going to kind of go with it and see how many I feel would look good on this. So going to squirt out some of my red paint? Want to my paper plate? I put my paintbrush inside the water because I wanted to clean it because I want to make sure that it's fresh and clean for my red paint. Now, after I clean it, then I'm going to dry it with my paper tell I wanted to be pretty dry because I want to make sure that the lines that I make aren't They don't have a lot of pain on them and then they're not 100% perfect. So let me show you what to do next. So you dip your paintbrush into your pain, get quite a bit of pain on their but then we're gonna wipe some of it off because we want our lines to be not really solid. Not really solid. This one right here over on the end is pretty solid. That's the 1st 1 that I did. And then I didn't read it over and over, and I made them lighter and lighter as I went on. See, this one right here hardly has any pain on it at the bottom. And that's that. That's the look that I do want. So it's up to you as to what you want. So I'm going to just make some straight lines. I love how that looks. Okay. I want some of my people to be tall, some of them to be short, a little bit Pity dio some tall, Some sure, Some standing close to one another. That's a really tall one right there. I think I'm going to do one more right here. Like that. Guess what? That's it for the red. That's it for the red. I'm going to stop right there. So the next thing that I'm going to dio I'm going to put my red inside my water so it can start Renzi. And I'm going to get some of my black acrylic paint going to put it on my paper plate. And I'm going to put it in a line shape and let me show you why. Because we're going to take our then piece of cardboard and we're going to dip it like this . Dip your piece of cardboard into your black paint. Now what we're going to dio is we're going to make some lines coming down from the bottom, her legs and then right here at the top, closer to the top of the body for their arms. So this one right here is kind of going off the paper. Someone will just let it do that. So every time I want to make some legs, I dip. See how I do that? You may. He's going across like that. How does that look? I like the way that that looks okay. Almost done with the legs. Now I'm going to move to the arms. This one here And what? His arm to be going up So they have each to arms. Well, this is the tall guy right here. Okay. See what I'm doing? Pretty cool, huh? I get this when I think we'll have a raised arm. Okay. I almost done with the arms. Almost finished. Perfect. Now what I'm going to do next, I'm going to set this down because I'm going to still need it in a moment. Going to make us a smaller, um, little strip. Do you see how I made some decorations on their clothing? That's what I'm going to do in a moment. But first, But first I'd like to make their heads. So let me show you how I do that. So I take my black paint and I dip one of my thinkers just like that into the pain. And then I do don, It's like that. It doesn't even have to be touching the red. This one's a little low if you like that. Look, that's fine. This is a little bit higher, so it's only what you like. You can have their heads tilted like this where you can have them straight up. It's up to you. All right, well, I'm going to need my paper tell again. Wipe off the paint on my finger. Now I'm going to do the last part of this project, and that is going to be the decoration. So what? I'm going to dio I'm going to take that cardboard that I had before for the legs and for the arms. And I just tore piece off. Did you see how I did that? And then I'm going to just make some decorations on their clothing. Could do excess. You can do lines. It's up to you. I'm not gonna do him on every single one. Hey, what do you think? I think I'm pretty happy with this. Okay. All right. So there are my warriors. So, as you can see, the one that we just worked on right now is different.
