1. Introduction: Hi, I'm Jake. And in this class we
are going to create a portal effect inspired
by the luck movie. The best part of this class
is that you don't need to have any experience
in VFX or filming, or even using any editing apps. Because this class has a first section with four
videos for complete beginners. In this section, I'm
going to explain you a step-by-step about
everything you need to know to
create this effect. How to film your footage in right way to get
the best result. How to clean up and prepare foolish before
adding the portal. Finally, how in just one click, Add the portal and add some details to make
it look even better. You can just download the
free trial version of Adobe After Effects
and start right now, I've also provided video
footage for you to practice on in the resource tab
to this class in case if you are feeling lazy or
just want to start creating this effect without
filming your own footage. Also, if you are an experienced user of
Adobe After Effects, you can continue watching the
class to advanced section. In this advanced
section of this lesson, I'm going to show
you how you can create a portal
effect from scratch, including a little
particles and race, and how to change the color
and all that good stuff. But the best way about the advanced section is that
you'll be able to place your own logo or drawing to
get your own bottle look, which you can use in
your feature films or for social media posts. I'll be happy to see you
in my class has also your result after
following all the steps. So let's get started.
2. BEGINNER - How to Shoot Your Video: Okay, so I'm using Adobe
After Effects 2021, and you can download
a free trial version on Adobe website just by Googling Adobe After
Effects and download a free trial version if you
don't have the software yet, also am using standard layout. So your panels should
be similar to mine. If for some reason
you cannot see some of the panels which you
can see on my screen. You can just simply report
to them by their name. So for example,
effects and presets. You can enable it here
from Window Effects and Presets and any other panel which you can see on my screen. So first of all, let's
import our footage. I'm going to project panel. And you can just left
mouse, double-click here. Let's polish will be available. Download from resource
tab to this class. I'm going to use Raman, but you can also use raw girl. And also let's use portal, ready to use on screen
mode and click Import. This part of the class will be beginner type of the class. Basically you already will
have this kind of portal and I'm going to
teach you how you can place in your scene. So it would work the best. I'm going to provide
some tips how to film your footage to
get the best result. And later in this lesson, I'm going to show you how to create this portal from scratch. So let's type from beginner type of the class to create
new composition, we need just to let most lick, hold on raw footage and
drag and drop on timeline. Here we can see the video which I've shot for
you to practice on. You can also shoot yourself
and work on your footage. And here's a few
tips which I want to recommend you to get the
best possible result. As you can see, I
have a few shots, so it would look more cinematic. But these first two
shots are not necessary. But you can always shoot
yourself how you can walk, then you can see the light. And as you can see, I've used sunlight to generate on myself. It's a really good idea
to have it because it will help us to
blend our forage, our effect more seamlessly. And in case if you don't
have something like this, you can use even a phone. Just make sure to cover with some kind of glass
any color you want. Because later in this video, I'm going to show
you that you can even change the
color of the portal. So in your case, in
this portal can be any color and you can just
cover your flashlight on the phone with
any kind of gel or glass to colorize
in any color. So make sure to import
it something of Laura. So you would have some
lights on yourself. So basically you need to film just this part of the video. When you come closer
to the portal, you're reacting to it. And then just jumping into it. And make sure not
to jump over it because we need these
highlights on ourselves, it will help to blend
this effect even better. So once again, I'll try to not jump over it and
just in front of it. So you would get these
highlights on yourself. Then we need to have
some clean plate. Basically, you need
to shoot this from tripod and in dark environment. In this case, this portal
will look the brightest. So it's a good idea to shoot
this video at evening, as I did in this video. And also you need to take your light and yourself and
walk out from the brain. So you would have
this clean plate where nothing is in shot. We did this part of the
video so we could clean up this part where
we have our light. So let's recap what
you need to do. You need to have your camera on a tripod so it will
not move at all. You need to have a phone
with flashlight or just simply a flashlight
with some color and just place it in
front of yourself. And as you can see, my
camera is about knee height. It's a good idea
because as you can see, the perspective of this
portal is somewhat the same as this perspective. So make sure to place your
tripod about your knee level. Make sure to film your
video at evening. Make sure you would have some light which will
shine on yourself. And finally, don't forget, after this motion to
work out from the frame. So you would have
just a clean plate. The next video, I'm going
to show you how you can remove the slide from the
frame and add our portal. See you next video.
3. BEGINNER - Clean Up: So now I'm going to show
you how you can remove this slide and add our
model in our scene. So to remove our light, we basically need to
duplicate this layer. So let's select it
and press Control D. As you can see, I have
a press Control D to duplicate this layer. Once you will duplicate it, just make sure to place this playhead here at
the end of the video where we have just clean plate and then just right mouse
click on this video, go to Time and
choose freeze-frame. In this case, you can see this, we have a keyframe which means that this point
in time is froze. And now if I'm going to
scroll through the video, you can see that it froze. Basically we have
just a simple image. And now using this pen tool, we are going to select this area with which we are
going to cover are light. So basically we can just shut up this layer by clicking
on this eyeball here, then scroll a bit behind. So we will see this part. And it's a good idea
to cut our light just while you send in
here and add jumping, because in this case, we cannot see how
much we need to cut. Let's place our playback here. So we see this part. And then we need to select
this layer which is frozen. We can also press Enter on keyboard and rename
it as frozen. As you can see, we
still disabled it, but make sure to select it. Because when you
select this layer and then choosing
this pen tool here, we are going to create a mask. And the mask will be created on the layer which is selected. So make sure that you're done. Select this layer below, and you've selected
this frozen layer. Then just simply with
the scroll on the mouse, you can zoom in or zoom out. And also if you hold space bar, you can see that our cursor
tours to this hand tool. And with this hand tool, we can move around our
image just like this. Just leftmost click and drag. You can see I'm
holding spacebar. Then just leftmost
click and drag. This way, it's easier to
move around with your image. With the scroll on the mouse, you can just zoom
in and zoom out. So now what we want
to do is basically just to create
this kind of mask. If you left mouse click, it will create 1, if you will, leftmost click and drag. It will create this curve point, which is great to
make these edges more curved and go along
our sidewalk. And then just close it at your starting point
just by clicking on it. So we've created our mask
with this selection tool, we can adjust the
points of our mask like this and simply just
enable this layer. As you can see, once
we've enabled this layer, we simply just
removed our light. But if we are going
to click here to deselect any of these
layers like Maslow. Here. You can see that we
have this harsh line and we can remove it just by simply selecting this frozen
layer and press F. It will open mask
and mask feather. With this mask feather value, we can just blow this edge. So let's set it to 25. And now as you can
see that this page is blurred and we removed
our light seamlessly. So let's cut this layer on top. Let's select the
selection tool and cut this layer on top
where we needed. Because here at the beginning we have other shot and as you
can see, it's still here. So let's see where
this shot is ending. You can also use this next frame and previous frame button. And just simply by
left mouse clicking on this edge cuts to this moment. If you will hold
Shift on keyboard, it will snap to our
playhead, just like this. And by the way, if
you want to have this kind of cinematic shot, makes sure that your friend
will shine light on you. So it would blend seamlessly. But in our case, we want to focus only on this
part of the video. I am going to change this
work area to this moment. And it's a good idea because if I'm going to
press 0 or numpad, it will preview
only this part of the video. So let's press 0. And as you can see, we have
first part of this effect. We just removed our
light at this point. We can save our project. So go to File, Save As, and save it
wherever you want. Because After Effects can
crash from time-to-time, it's a good idea to save your
project from time to time. Just go File, Save. Next video. We are going to create
this effect where you are going to fall
through the floor. Senior next video.
4. BEGINNER - Fall Through Floor: Okay, so now we have
our removed light and now we can just continue our jumping motion
through the portal. In my case, I want to hide this frozen
layer because I want to see the last possible frame which I want to use
for falling down. Basically, we are going to use the same technique which
we've used in previous video. We are going to release
ourselves and then cut ourselves out and throw ourselves through
the floor below. Let's choose the
brain which we like. And they think the
spraying could work fine. So to cut ourselves, we need to select
our raw footage, which is this main
one on which we are working on and duplicate it. So let's press Control
D to duplicate it. And then right mouse click and
go time and pretty spring, just make sure that
you've shows your frame, which you like with
these buttons. So something like
this would work fine. So let's go to
time, freeze frame, like this pen tool, and let's
start cutting ourselves. So here is the main idea
is go along yourself. If you are not sure where
your line should be drawn, make sure that you are not
taken some of the background. It's better to take even less of yourself then even more of
your background like this. Because in this case, it will be noticeable. And if you are going to
cut yourself a bit more, just like this, it will
be not that noticeable. But main idea is just to cut yourself along your
legs, body and head. So let's quickly
cut out ourselves. Once again, you
can use space bar to move around your
forage and zoom-in, zoom-out to see better the edge which you need to cut out. And always remember that
when you're using Pen tool, make sure that you are selecting the right layer on which
you want to cut out. Because from time-to-time
you can forget it and cut out on other layer
and it will not work. And in that case,
you just need to press control Z a
bunch of times. So make sure that you only
cut out on right layer. So I'm finishing my mask. And in some cases, if you're posing of yourself, have these kinds of
parts where you need to cut out our background. You can just create
another mask. Once you close this one, you can just simply start
gradient another mask. Just like this simple example, we need to cut out this
part because here we have some background
instead of just us. And in this case you
can just press M on keyboard and change
the second mask with this second color. As you can see, it has this orange color and
change it to subtract. It will cut out this part. And to see it better, you can just click
on this solo mode and then on this
transparency grid. And you can see that
with this mask, subtract or add, we are
subtracting this part. And now we can see our
progress a bit better. It doesn't have
to be perfect and something like this
will work fine. So let's exit the solo
mode by clicking here. And let's close it here. And now we can just
continue this motion. So let's cut this layer to
this moment where we found our perfect shot,
which we've cut out. Let's rename it to me because this is part where
you can cut it out yourself. And then let's see
what happened. As you can see, we've
cut it ourselves. But here behind of this
video with ourselves, we can still see, we can still see
this main video. So basically we have
two videos on top with this image and with
ourselves. Basically. Now, we need, from this
point in time on which we can out ourselves to remove ourselves as we
removed our floor. So we've removed our floor. And from this point in time, we need to duplicate
our ramen forage. So press Control D. Also, let's take parts of the video
where nothing is in shot. Go to time freeze-frame. Now we can just
with this pen tool, select this part of the
image and simply create this mask as we did
with our light. And if we will scroll back, we can see that we
removed entirely. We removed our light and
we removed ourselves. So let's recap what we did. So these layers
will not scare you off because I know that
if you are a beginner, it can look a bit complicated. So let's go step-by-step. First of all, we've
removed our light, then we've add ourselves. But we need to remove
everything what is behind. So for this, we have
removed ourselves. Now, we need to cut this layer on which
we removed ourselves. Basically now it
just disappears. But we still have this scattered out or reach with ourselves
and we can enable it. And now we can just simply made this transition
to ourselves. And as you can see, by just
removing only this part, we still having
these lights from the portal on our environment, which is great and not just simply dark
environment like this. So this is why it's a good
idea to cut only this part. And now we can see that
we have here shadows, like falling through the portal. If you pay attention here, we can still have this shadow
we are following through. So this is why we
need to go through these steps to get
this effect right. So next thing which
I want to do is to animate ourselves like
we are falling through. We need to select ourselves, press P on the keyboard to see our position and
create a keyframe. To create a keyframe, we need to click
on this stopwatch. So let's let most liquid. And now you can see that we've created our first keyframe. So what is keeping him? Keyframe is basically
point in time, which remembers the value
of certain property. In our case, this keyframe
remembers this point in time, which is six seconds
and five frame. So this point in time, it remembers this value, which is x and y, basically coordinates of our image of
property possession. And later in this video, just like this, we can just simply change the second value. Because first value is X value, it moves left to
right, like this. And second value, its
y value up and down. In our case, we want
to move it down. Just like this. We are falling
through the floor. So let's see how it
looks as you can see. And now it remembers
this first value, which is original value. And then it goes to this second value
which we've created. And basically this
is how animation in Adobe After Effects works. We just creating these keyframes which remember these values. And then after
Effects is trying to connect this both values. And it says that we need
to change our y value, which basically means
to move it down. Okay, so we have this
kind of animation. Let's preview this
part of the video. So let's press 0 numbered. Okay, It looks pretty good. But only thing which
I don't like is that we are losing these
slides here at the end. So to fix this issue, we need to select
our main video and then make sure that you've
placed your playhead here where we can see
still our lights and right mouse click
on it and go to time enable time remapping. It's a bit different than freeze-frame because
in this case, it's still stays as it was. But if we are going to
create this keyframe in this point in time and
remove this last keyframe. It will froze from
this moment on, but before it will still work. So this is how you
can just froze your video from some
point later on, which is really
useful in our effect. So now I'm going to
press 0 numbered. As you can see, we already
have this kind of animation. What we can do to
make this effect more believable is to click here on toggle switches and modes to see this
motion blur button. Now, let's click on it. Click here and make sure
that it's enabled here. And as you can see what
this motion blur button, we are adding this
blur on ourselves, which will make this effect
even more believable. Second thing which we
want to do is to select this layer with ourselves
and press U on keyboard. Now we can see our keyframes, and basically we can select
this keyframe and press F9, which basically means that
this motion will start fast and slower until we can
also go to graph editor. And here we can adjust
our motion even better. Just make sure that you click here and choose
Edit Speed Graph. In this case, we can see that it will start faster
and then slower. By this graph. The
higher this graph gets, the faster speed it has. Then as you can
see, it falls down. With this speed graph. We can just simply
press 0 numbered and see if it looks natural. As you can see now,
it looks too fast. So what we can do
is just to exit this graph and then push
out these key frames. This case, if you are
pushing out like this, this animation will go slower, as you can see now
it goes slower. If we are decreasing this distance between
these key frames, it will go faster. We can also change
this work area, so we will see only this part. So basically, just take your
time to play around with the distance between
these keyframes and see what works
best on your footage. And the next video we are
going to add our portal into RCM, Cmax video.
5. BEGINNER - Adding Portal: So let's now finally add
our portal in our scene. One quick tip which
you need to remember, the order of these
layers matters. So basically, if I'm going
to place myself on top of this frozen floor, Let's rename it and
call it frozen floor. And this is frozen by round. So just press Enter or Return on keyboard and rename it
to frozen background. So if I'm going to place myself on top of
all of the layers, you can see that I'm
going to see myself on top of all our keys, it exactly what we want. Because now we are going to cut out ourselves more properly. Because if I'm going
to leave it as is, you can see that
we have this line which is not corresponding
with our portal. And to see it better, just
simply select the spiral left mouse click
and hold and drag it on top of our layers. As you can see from the
name of this portal, you need to use on screen mode. So basically we need to toggle
between these switches and modes to get the mode
and change it to screen. Then let's place it here. So basically it will start just about here where
this frame appears. As you can see, it already
created this portal, which looks pretty cool. What you can do is
to move it down. If you can see that your portal
is on top of your shoes, which is not what we want. So basically you can
move around as you want. You can even press S on keyboard and make it size,
smaller or bigger. Depending on your scene. Just press S on the keyboard
and change the size. And my k is 100 is good. And I just want to
replace it a bit down because it was on
top of my shoes. And then let's see what happens here is you can see I'm
jumping a bit to the left. So let's move it, our
portal to the left. So I'm going to jump
just inside of it. And now as you can
see, it's got enough in the way where we want. This is why we want to place ourselves on top
of frozen Florida. So we could still
see ourselves here. We even need to see ourselves
on top of the portal. So let's place it on top. And now we can see
this clear edge of the portal behind which
we need to disappear. And this is good because
we can now go to Layer and create new solid. Now let's call it met, which basically means
that we are creating some mask for ourselves. Make sure that you click
on this Make Comp Size, which will make this solid the same size as
our composition. Color doesn't matter.
And click Okay, so now we have
ourselves a solid. We can shut it off, but makes sure to select
it because we are going to use this pen tool and
we want to select it. So we will create a mask on this salad and not on
any other footage. Then zoom in and let's
start gradient this mask, maybe about here, this bottle, and then just left mouse click, hold and drag to
create this kind of curved edge here as well. Then here, here, and create
a mess just like this. And now what we can
do with this mask, we can just simply select ourselves and use
this track matte. To see this track matte, you need to click here
on toggle switches and modes and choose Alpha Inverted, which basically means that everything where
this layer starts, it will cut out ourselves. So I'm going to scroll
through and see that it cuts along this
mask which we've created, which is perfect for us. We can also cut this layer so it will look more
organized and now, as you can see, it looks
much more believable. What we can do also, we can just press M on keyboard and open this
mask of this metal layer. We can change the expansion. For example, we can cut out even more of our cells like this, is, you can see
I've changed to 17. We can change it even to 25. Because now with
this mask feather, we can even blow it out and
we can set it to 25 as well. Then just play around with this mask expansion to
make sure to have this H. And we want to have this
feather because it will simulate like light from the portal is healing
ourselves as well. So now it looks more seamlessly. And by the way, if you can see
that you are falling down, not the trajectory
which you want, you can always
select yourselves, press P. And on this last frame, you can just move it a bit
to the right or to the left. So you will fall entirely into
the portal like you want. Also, if for some reason you
will stick out your hand, you can use this puppet tool. Just select it and then create some points on
yourself like this. And with these points, you just simply can move
your hand just like this and make sure that your hands are going
inside of the portal. So basically it will
create a entire new points which we created with these
dots using this puppet tool. And then later you
can animate it. So for example,
here we've created our points and later if we are going to
animate like this, even you can see that it creates this kind of animation
basically with this effect. You can move around
your hands if you're sticking out from the portal
and you cannot fit into it. So what this effect
is really handy. So stick your elbows and
everything together. In our case, we don't
need this effect. So we can go to effects
and controls and deleted. So make sure to jump like this so it will not
have any problems. Or just simply use this Puppet Position Pin Tool to create the animation for
your parts of the body. So let's select
the selection tool and see what problems
we still have. Let's press 0 numpad
to see how it looks. As you can see, it already
looks pretty nice. But what we can do to change
the light on ourselves, because now it still
looks like a picture. But if we select ourselves and
go to effects and presets, once again, if you
cannot see this panel, you can go to Window Effects
and Presets and enable it. Wait a minute, so it will load up and then type here curves. With these curves effect
under color correction. You can let more
slick and drag it on ourselves and create a keyframe. And with this curve effect, we can add light to ourselves. So let's let mostly on the stopwatch to
create this keyframe. Then later scroll through. Here. As you can see, we can add a
bit more light to ourselves. It would look more believable. So basically you just find
the point where you are almost entirely in portal
and add a bit more light, just like this, just leftmost click on this curve
and drag it up. So we would add even
more light on ourselves. And now if we are going
to scroll through, you can see this portal is shining on us and how
it blends a bit better. So let's see with this
effect and without it, as you can see, it
blends a lot better. And finally, we want to close
our portal just about here. Once you'll jump into it, Let's select our portal, press Control D to duplicate. And this parallel below, Let's disable it by
clicking on this eyeball, this portal on top. Let's let more slick and
drag it to the left. And see this final animation. And let's cut it. So
as you can see here, it looks just fine. And let's enable
this portal below. We can also cut it this
bottle just like this, and place it here. Let's try to cut to this moment and this one on top to
this moment as well. We can even add a bit of flesh. So like this portal is
reacting to our jump. Today, this flesh, you can
just simply drag it like this and press T on keyboard
to see our opacity here, where it's not overlapping
these two bottles. We can create a keyframe. Then here we can
reduce the opacity. And here we can just
simply cut it out. So now as you can see,
it has this little lash. It's up to you if you
want to use this effect. But now, once we've
jumped into our portal, you can see it's closing in. Let's zoom out from
this timeline by using this zoom in to frame level. Make sure to check your work area with these handles and
then press 0 or not, but to see how it looks. In the next videos, I'm
going to show you how you can create this
bottle from the scratch. So if you have trap
that particular, we're going to read this
model from scratch. And what is cool about this
portal that you can go to emitter and change
to any other shape. So for example, if I
would have something, something like this,
it will automatically update here in our preset
which we are going to create. Now it uses our heart. And we can even
control how much of this effect is going to apply. Because if we are going to
decrease this thickness, so for example, this will be not so bright
as you can see. It's pretty cool effect. And I'm going to show
you how to create this portal in the next
videos as also how to create, as also how to create entire this portal
from the scratch. See you in next videos.
6. ADVANCED - Creating Portal Shape: So now let's create
our model from nothing just by using
trap code particular. So first of all, what we need to do is to create a
new composition. Let's click here to create
new composition on this icon. And let's call it
portal shape and click. Okay, so first thing
we need to do is to go to layer and
create a new solid. Let's call it particular, because this plugin will
use and click Okay, here and paste and presets. Let's type particular and choose this red giant
tropic particular. It's external plugin. If you don't have it, you can download a free trial version is just typing in Google red
giant tripod particular. So let's place it
on this solid here. And the first thing
which we want to do is to create our emitter. Because as I've told, you always will be able to
change to any other shape. You'll be able to use
even your own logos. And it's still will
generate our portal. So this is really cool and
really easy to adjust. To get really nice bottles with your own image that
you will be able to place any logo and
it will just work. Okay, So let's create it. First of all, let's
create our emitter. So to create my portal, I've used here at
Rectangle tool, you can just left
mouse click and hold and choose the Star Tool. Then about in the
middle of the screen, you can just let more
slick hold Control and Shift to make a perfect
star just like this. By the way, if you are
going to click down or up, you can choose amount of points. So let me choose four
points like this. And let's create
this kind of shape. It can be different for you. But here in poly star, we can make some changes. First of all, I don't
want to have a fill. So let's disable it by
clicking on this eyeball here. And we can increase the stroke so it would
be much more visible. Then let's open this
poly star path. And here we can change
also amounts of points. In our case we'll use
for inner radius. Let's increase it
quite a bit like 26, outer radius, Let's degrees
it a bit, maybe like 420. And then let's change
this inner roundness. Let's go really high, like minus 350, outer radius. Let's go really big, like 233. And now we can just simply
press S on keyboard and make it larger,
just like this here, by using the align panel, we can just make sure that it's in the middle
of the screen. Make like an aligned vertically
and align horizontally. We can also click on this lock button and
stretch it a bit. So it will pretty much
cover all of our screen. We can also add a mask just
by right-clicking on it. Go to mask, new mask. And let's use this
selection tool. Double-click one of the points. And let's cut this inner part. To see that we are
cutting in our part. We can just press M on
keyboard and change it to subtract. Mathias. In our case, once again, left mouse
double-click on one of the points to be
able to get it out. On the inner part. We want to have
empty logo inside. Something like this
will work fine. We can also decrease
the stroke here. So let's maybe change it to 11. And we can even open
here at contents. While the star and stroke, we can even animated
this thickness, basically we want to animate the stroke width and let's
disable this particular. We can just animate
this stroke by clicking on this stock
with on this stopwatch. And here later we can set to 0, which basically will create
this animation of fading out. This is how our portal
will disappear. Okay, so we've created our shape and now we can just
pre-compose it. To pre-compose it, it
means that we want to put this image inside
of another composition. So let's select it and
go to layer pre-compose. Let's call it a mirror
because this shape will emit particles
and click, Okay. Now it's important to do click on this
toggle switches and modes and change this layer
to 3D because in other case, particular will not
use this emitter if you will not switch
to this 3D layer. And then you can just disable our emitter and enable
our particular. Now as you can see, our
particles are being generated and it's
simply these dots, which comes from this error. In our case, we want to go
to emitter and change from point to layer because we
want to select this layer. So let's select this
layer and emitter type. Let's select layer. Now let's
go to layer a meter here. And let's set our ammeter here, which basically will tell to
particular that we want to emit particles from our
emitter, which is this one. But by default, it emits
particles everywhere. So we need to control our
particular even more. As you can see, direction is uniform and it's
not what we want. What we want is
directional emission. So let's set to directional. And let's set this direction
spreads to 0 because we want to see the clear
shape of our logo, which you can place
inside of this emitter. Velocity, we will set to really high value,
like 1 thousand. Basically, it will
shoot our particles really fast from our
camera into the void. Let's increase the amount of particles so we
would see better. I've used amount
like 9 thousand. So now we clearly
can see our shape. Then what we can do is to set
our velocity random to 50. So it will move a bit more
randomly into the void. And now let's work on
our particle look. First of all, we don't want to have a feather on our particles. We want to see them clearly. So let's set sphere
of feather to 0. So now we can see
a lot better size. We can increase to nine, which will also make
them more visible. And life seconds
we can set to one, because with this
particular layer, we want to see only the edge of our image answer is random. We can increase to 100. So we would get some
randomness in our particles. Something like this looks
a lot more interesting. Next thing which I want to do is to change the
size of our life. By clicking on this icon, we can tweak how the size of the particles will be off
entirely of its life. As you see from this
life per second, that each particle will
live only 1 second. And if you follow one of the particles, for
example, this one, you can see that
it appears really fast and then just shut
enough and disappears. So let's create an animation
where it appears really fast but disappears
into small particles. This we can do with
this size over life. We can just select one
of the points here at the end and just
move to create this kind of curve which
basically tells our particular that particles should size it down and not just disappear. So now as you can
see, we are getting really big particles and then they are becoming a lot smaller, which is exactly what we want. So now we have this
pretty cool animation. Second thing which
I want to do is to blend these particles
a bits together. We can achieve it with
the CC vector blur. So let's type here and
effects and presets CC vector blur and drop
it on particular. Here we want to
make some changes. For example, we want to increase the amount to see the effect. Let's sell it to authority. But you can basically
play around with the values to get the
look which you like. In my case, I've used
the value of three and I have decreased
map sadness to seven. So it would be a
bit more visible. It's really hard to see it. So let's increase the amount
of particles to 90 thousand. And now we can see that
we are getting somewhere. We can also duplicate
this CC vector blur. So select it and
press Control D to duplicate it with this
second CC vector blur, we want to tie down our edges. So let's set this one to
nine and map softness. Let's maybe change it to 20. And let's also use a
package called sharpen, which will make this
effect even more detailed. As you can see, it's
a bit blurrier. And if we will increase this
effect to 150 of sharpen, you can see that we get
in a lot more details, which looks even
more interesting. And also let's change
this emitter size to 0. Once will get really
tight edge like this. We can just simply change this velocity to
something like 700. Once again, you can
play around between 1500 if you want to
have the title edge. In my case, let's leave
it at 1 thousand, which gives us this
really tight edge and still some cool animation. Okay, so now let's duplicate
this layer with the particular select it and press
Control D to duplicate it. This one we can just disable. And let's focus on this
part inside of our portal. So let's go to emitter
and make some changes. First of all, I want to set this velocity to
like 5 thousand, so it will go inside
more than we can increase amount of particles,
like 150 thousand. As you can see, we have
a lot more rich effect. And you can adjust the amount
of particles at any time, which basically will feel this
effect with more details. And at this moment in time, if you are going to press 0
numbered, as you can see, this motion is too
fast and we can just tweak it a bit just by
going to global controls. Here. Physics time factor. We can decrease it to 0.6. And basically it will slow down the animation and
it will look nicer. So if we're going to press
0 numpad to see it is a lot slower and it's easier to
see what is happening. Next thing which we
can do and what we can adjust is go to environment. And let's push our
particles even more. We are adding went in Z space, which basically will make our particles go inside
even, even more. At this point, we can increase our sharpen effect like 250. So we would see our
effect even better. And we can add effect
called CC radial blur. Select this CCA radial blur, not the best blur, but cc radial blur. And let's place it just on top before this vector blowers. Because we want to have a bit of blur just before
this vector bluer. We can change it to
paid in Zoom and set it to just a low
value like minus 26, which will be enough to
create this kind of blurred, an interesting kind of look. And now by combining this
layer with this layer, you see how we can create this
really cool portal effect. And now, just by changing this emitter to
any kind of image, you will get this really
cool effect just by using only these two
layers with the particles. And the next video, I'm going
to show you how you can place this really nice portal on the floor and how to
make it even more interesting to watch just by creating these little particles. As you can see, they
have this kind of shimmer which will give
more magical kind of look. Cmax videos.
7. ADVANCED - Shimmering Particles: So we've created this
really nice portal. So let's now place
it on the floor. So basically we can just
create another composition. Let's call it portal. Ready. Because here we are going to create full portal
and click Okay, then let's place this
bottle shape inside here. Let's see it, and let's click
here to make it a 3D layer. Then press R on keyboard
and just rotate it in x. Let's move it down. And maybe something like
minus 85 should work. Great. So here we've
created our portal. Next thing which we can do is to create some particles
which will flow in because we have this kind of animation of
everything going in. And it will help with
this kind of effect. So let's click here to
create new composition. Let's call it particles N. And click Okay. Let's create a new layer, go to layer, new solid. And let's call it particular, let's drop it,
particular effect on it. And now let's go to emitter and make some changes to
create this effect. Basically, this time
we can use this box. And let's see how
it's generated. As you can see, it's generated
from some kind of bugs. In our case, we can just
change shame meter size. We can make this XYZ individual and basically
just spread an x in Z. Let's decrease it to 100 and y, Let's decrease it to 50, n in Z, Let's degrees it to 100. So basically, these particles
are just being born. We can also change
this from direction, from uniform to directional. Let's change this direction
spread because we don't want to spread these
particles too much. Let's increase velocity. So they will move a
lot faster, like 250. And let's change the
direction and x. If we will change
this to 90 degrees, you will see how all
particles will be generated from the
floor and move up, which is exactly what we want. And now we can just
basically change this position and put
it down on the floor. And we can always
stretch it a bit in x. So these particles will
appear along our portal. Okay, next thing
which we want to do is to change our particle. We can set life of each
particles to four seconds. Then you'll need to
change the size. You will need to change
to really small value. But for sake of our class, I'm going to leave it
as big because you will not be able to see it if I'm going to change
to really small. But before you're
going to use it, This project is a good idea to stay at really small value, like two or one. But in our case, if I'm
going to change to one, you'll barely see it. So I'm going to set to three, but you can change
to two or one. Next thing which
we want to do is to change sphere
of feather to 0. So it will be a bit easier
to see size random. We can also change to 50. So they would be a
bit different size. And it already looks a
lot more interesting. And here with the size of life, we can create something
really interesting. So let's click here and let's just move it down like this. Create another point. Move it down, read another
point, move it down. Another point and move it down. Once again, do this
one more time. So basically by gradient
this kind of waves, we will add some kind of
shimmer to our particles. They will appear and
disappear a bunch of times. If I'm going to play it, you'll
see this kind of shimmer. But in our case, we just
don't want them to shimmer. We want to them slowly
becomes smaller. So for this, we can
just move each of these high points
lower and lower. So something like this
should look fine. And as you can see, we have this really nice shimmer
and our particles, which will make them
look more magical. Then I want to go
to environment. And here in environment, we can go to air turbulence. And here we can just simply
tweak this effect position, which basically will add
some turbulence in the air. If I'm going to press 0 numpad, you'll see that these
particles start to move more randomly and a lot more organically like it's
flowing through the air. This really gives this animation more
interesting kind of look. And this is basically
the last thing which I want to tweak
on this effect. Okay, So now we have this
really nice particles which we want to use. We can go to a portal
ready and just drop it. These particles span. But as you already know, they are flowing up and
it's not what we want. We want them to flow down. And also we want them
finally disappear. And as you remember,
our emitter of shape is disappearing about
here at four seconds. So let's make sure
that these particles will also disappear
at four seconds. So let's click on this
particles per second stopwatch. And later, a bit later, Let's set it to 0, which basically will make
them disappear. Okay, so now let's go
to a portal, ready? And we want to reverse
this animation because we already know that these
particles are flowing up. And it's not what we want
to reverse this animation. Just simply select
this layer and go to time, Time Reverse Layer. And let's just drag it and we see where they
start to appear. So something like here, we already can see that they are appearing and now we can just adjust the timing so
they appear about here. We can also right
mouse click on it and go to time, enable
time remapping. And by creating a keyframe
to time remapping, we are saving this time speed. But for example, we
will know that at four seconds our
portal will disappear. So basically we can just
create another keyframe and then just move this
keyframe closer here. So it will speed up the
process of it's disappearing. So they will disappear
with our main portal. So now we've created a
really nice particles which flows into our portal, which looks really, really nice. And the next videos I'm going
to show you how you can create some god race
from this portal, which will look even
more interesting. And also I'm going to show you how to colorize this effect properly as also how to add
really nice glow to it. See you next video.
8. ADVANCED - Adding Rays and Colorizing: So now we have really
nice bottle with these really nice
particles which flows in, and let's add some low, has also some gut
race and colorize it. So first of all, let's add some gut race because
these kind of erase, we'll add a really
nice shine to it. So let's duplicate
our portal shape. Let's add effect which
we already used is CC radial blur and drop
it on bottle shape. We can also rename it as race. Also, we need to
change it to a paid in Zoom and change
the second value. So it wouldn't be below to
some high value like 1700. And then increase the amount. I am increasing this amount. We are getting this
really nice race. But now you can see
one problem that these rays are cut
enough with our footage. And to fix this problem, we can just simply
remove this effect. Just pre-compose this layer. So let's go to
layer pre-compose. Now let's call it just race. And here it's important to
click to move all attributes, which basically will move the attributes of
rotation of this layer. And we'll fix our problem
with cardinality of our race. And click Okay. Now if we are going to use
the CC radial blur and change it to
paid-in zone and change this amount to bigger
value like 200. And let's don't like 1700. Now we're really getting this really nice race
from our portal. So let's change this
resolution to auto, so it will be not so
heavy on our computer. And then we can add
some curves effect. And here an alpha channel, we can increase this effect. So we would see it a lot better. And we can even cut it
up a bit if you want. In our case, we
can just decrease this amount and we will get more glow from it from our
portal and fading zone, as it's called here in type. With this alpha pure, we can basically adjust how much of these
rays we want to see. And as you can see, it looks
a lot more interesting. Second thing which we can do is to add some low to bottle shape. So let's add some low. If you have some different kinds of loads, you can use it. But for sake of this class, I'm going to use
simple stylized low. We want to increase the radius a bit and maybe decrease
the intensity 2.5. Now let's duplicate this low and increase the
radius even more. And just play around with
these low intensity values to get the amount of
law which you prefer. This point you can play around until you like your result. And finally, we
can just colorize this effect to any
colors which you like. We can just go to Layer,
new Adjustment Layer. And I recommend you to use. We see color vibrance effect. It is external client, but you can find it on
the web, just type. In Google, we see
color vibrance. It's free plugin which you can install into After Effects, but it works just great in terms of colorizing
your footage. Because here you can just
adjust this brightness and get really nice highlights as
well as increase the gamma. And basically you can change to any other colors which you like, which is really handy
with this effect. If you lose this CC radial blur, you can always tweak here n curves to see it better
and increase amount of blur. So you will see a more
longer race like this and just play around with this effect by simply
tweaking these values, you can get really nice results. You can also add some curves, effect and drag and drop. Maybe add a bit of brightness
and an alpha channel. You can also increase
it a bit if you want your portal to be
even more noticeable. But what is cool about this? That you can change to any other color and
it will just work. And then you can just simply say this video and use it on
top of any of your videos. This project you will find also in the resource
tab to this class. And by the way, to
create that circle wish you could see
in my parallel, you can just simply go to
a portal shape and just simply draw a
circle inside here. Just make sure to
not select anything. Create a circle just like this. Turn off, this fill effect, increase this stroke
and let's animate it. So let's press S on
keyboard and animate it from the center selected
go to Graph Editor. Make sure that this animation
will start like this. A nice and easy. And then will, this
will disappear. Just simply select
this scale keyframes, press Control C, Control V, and reverse these keyframes. So basically it will disappear. And if it will go to
this portal ready. Now you can see that we have
this kind of portal inside. So this is how you can
create this kind of beautiful portal inside
of Adobe After Effects. Feel free to follow me
here on Skillshare. I have a lot of classes on VFX. As you can see, I also
have classes on animation, as well as text animation
and even logo animation. I recommend you to watch
this really short class. It takes only 12 minutes, but you'll get really
nice effect as a result and feel free to
check other of my classes. Just follow me here on Skillshare hypo
splices every week. And I hope to see you
in my next class. Thank you for watching.
