About This Class

Learn to draw a variety of whimsical fish. I will teach you a modular approach that utilizes basic shapes for the body and demonstrate how to add fins and facial features.

I want to empower you to use your imagination to create your own unique creatures. In the resources section you’ll find a download with outline drawings of all the fish. You can use this as a starting point and then begin creating your own designs.

I believe that art is for everyone and I'd love to show you how to tap into your creative side. It is easier than you think.

Materials
You can use any art materials you have on hand.

1. Intro: welcome toe. Let's draw fanciful fish. I love drawing and painting fish because they come in so many great shapes, and they have so many different wonderful colors and patterns in this class. I'm going to show you how to draw fish, starting with a variety of simple shapes. For each basic shape, I'll have one video that demonstrates the process and then the following video that is a draw. A long video. During the draw along videos, you can take out your supplies whether they are just a pencil and paper, maybe some colorful pens or possibly some watercolors yourself and actually draw the fish along with the prompts on the screen. I will be doing the demos and water color, which may seem funny given this is a drawing class, but the main reason I'm doing it is because I want you all to focus on shapes more than actually drawing the lines. Once you understand the basic shapes, you have the power to create your fish, using any supplies that you want. For your reference, I have included a downloadable PdF that has all of the different fish in outline form. My name's Porsche, and I'm an illustrator and artists living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I truly believe that everyone is creative. Its just a matter of tapping into it in practice. I can't wait to see all the wonderful, fanciful fish that you're going to make through this class. 2. Materials: you really don't need anything special for this class in terms of materials. It can be a simple as some printer paper and a pen or pencil, or if you prefer some markers in a sketchbook and if you feel like it, feel free to use water colors. But mainly I'm doing the demo on water colors because it keeps it loose. 3. Class Project: the class project is simply a collection of drawings that you've made for this class. I really can't wait to see what fanciful fish you guys make, because from previous classes I have seen so much imagination and so much creativity. It's really exciting. I also want to encourage you to use the basic shapes that you learn and then mix them up. Say you like a fin that's on 1/2 circle fish. But then you maybe wanna use an arrow as your base shape, so the more you mix it up, the more fanciful you can get. 4. Demo: Eye Shape: We're going to start with the eye shape for our first demos for each fish. I'll quickly show you the building blocks and then on to the watercolor demo. In the following video, you will see the building blocks on the screen for a longer period of time so that you will be able to draw along way , - way , way, way, way, way, - way , - way , way. 5. Draw Along: Eye Shape: I made this video so that you could follow along with all the prompts on the screen and draw these Funai shaped fish Way, way, - way , - way , way, way, way. 6. Demo: Teardrop Shape: here is the watercolor demo for this teardrop fish. 7. Draw Along: Teardrop Shape: you can follow the prompts on the screen and draw this cute teardrop fish. 8. Demo: Triangle Shape: Here's the watercolor demo for a triangle shaped fish way. 9. Draw Along: Triangle Shape: just follow the prompts on the screen to draw this triangle shaped fish way. 10. Demo: Rounded Rectangle Shape: here is the water color demo for two rounded rectangular fish way, way. 11. Draw Along: Rounded Rectangle Shape: you can follow the prompts on the screen to draw these two rounded, rectangle shaped fish way, way, - way . 12. Demo: Arrow Shape: here is the watercolor demo for Arrow Shaped Fish Way, way, - way . 13. Draw Along: Arrow Shape: you can follow the prompts on this green to draw these two arrow shaped fish. The 1st 1 is kind of a loose arrow, and the 2nd 1 is an arrow with arrowheads on both sides. - Way , - way - way , . 14. Demo: Half Circle Shape: Here's the watercolor demo for 2/2 circle fish. The one on the left is more of a standard half circle. The one on the right is more of an elongated half circle. Way, way, - way , way. 15. Draw Along: Half Circle Shape: just follow the prompts on the screen to draw these 2/2 circle shaped fish. The 1st 1 is a more traditional half circle, and the 2nd 1 is sort of elongated, or you could think of it as an oval way, way, - way . 16. Thank You!: Thank you so much for taking the fanciful fish class. Please upload your projects. I really can't wait to see what fanciful fish you guys have made.
